WOW!! This was amazing! An easy 5 star rating!

This book had my pulse racing and had me hiding behind my pillow but at the same time I just had to keep reading!! I will admit I have avoided the mirrors in my house today and I slept with the light on last night!!

An absolute cracker of a ghost story and you must read it!!

Well done Steve Frech, I loved it!!!

I've never read anything by Steve Frech before but I really want to now. That's when I manage to emerge from behind the cushion I am now hiding. Haha why do I put myself through ghostly and horror books? Totally worth it I have to add for this novel!

The subject of grief is sad enough and can result in you feeling haunted and talking to someone who isnt there so fora grieving man and daughter to move to a house which is creepy - well that is just the perfect set up.
Creepy but in a good way. I loved finding out about how and why the house came to have the energy it did.

This gave me all the feels and a reminder to never really go inside an old house. I shall probably suspect nightingales from now on too ;)

All I can say is WOW! What an amazing, can't put it down book! It was the book I've been looking for. This was an amazing read that I am going to recommend to everyone I know! I can not rave about this book enough! I would have easily finished it in a day if I did not have to work. After a full night of work, here I am until 2 am finishing it because it was THAT GOOD!

At the beginning of this book I was a little scared. I never thought it was possible but this book made me scared, especially when I was alone. It turned into a story line like no other connecting current times to 1900.

All I have left to say is READ THIS BOOK! You will not be disappointed!!!!!

Thank you to NetGalley and HQ Digital for this advance reader's copy of Nightingale House by Steve Frech.

This was a good, fast read for me. I generally enjoy ghost stories and this one was no exception. All of the familiar ghost story themes are present, including a family experiencing trauma and trying to pick up the pieces, a new home that is more than what it first appears to be and a family member who can see ghosts but no one else believes.

The story is a very touching portrait of a family trying to figure out who they are after a major loss but some of the phrasing used, especially during conversations between the characters, felt forced and unnatural. Other than that I really enjoyed this book.

For fans of ghost stories, this one will be right up your alley!

Steve Frech is definitely going into my go to authors list.
I had read and liked Dark Hollows, so I was excited to delve into this one. It is a classic haunted house story for sure but a good one and one that has some twists into its sleeves.
But the big point in favor or Frech's novels are his ability to engage the reader. His writing is good, his dialogues are great, he creates good visual scenes that make you want to keep reading.

My only issue here and that's why it's a 4 and not 5 star for me is that way too much depends on happenstance or third part testimonies that would not work so easily in real life, but that's probably just me being too picky.

I"d like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

I had high hopes for this book as I occasionally like to read creepy books about haunted houses, unfortunately this one didn’t do it for me. It was a bit predictable and it didn’t scare me at all which is a shame as I enjoyed the story about the daughter and her father. The book was a quick read I finished it in a day and was disappointed in the story.
My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

I love scary books but the problem being a lot of them are just not scary. But not this one. I am so glad that I didn't start reading it at night because this awesome book is super creepy. It'll have chills running up and down your spine. It'll have you jumping at every little noise and it's unputdownable because you have to know what's going on. An absolute must read. Happy reading!

Daniel Price and his eight-year-old daughter, Caitlyn, are moving into the historic Nightingale House. It was a dream home for Daniel and his wife, Nicole, where they planned to raise their daughter and enjoy Daniel’s rising success as a novelist. That is, before a tragic accident left Daniel a widower and Caitlyn without a mother. Now the house will be a place for them to heal and move on without Nicole.

But, from the very first night, Daniel finds the house to be unwelcoming. Blaming it on his grief over his wife’s death, he tries to ignore the strange sounds and a voice that says “I can’t sleep”. When Caitlyn begins to behave differently, Daniel is unsure if it’s because she misses her mother or because the house is exerting its influence. All the while, Daniel, a warm and loving father, is desperate to create a new normal for himself and his daughter.

Nightingale House is an unputdownable kind of book. It’s spooky, heart-wrenching, and scary all rolled into one. The story moves back and forth between the present and the past, giving the reader a sense of the history of the house and its inhabitants. It is well-plotted and atmospheric, the sense of urgency is palpable, and the characters are sympathetic and likable.

This is the first book I’ve read by Steve Frech but I’ll definitely be on the lookout for more. This is 4.5 stars for sure.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a copy of this book for review.

The Nightingale House by Steve French has been added to my list of favorite haunts. It follows a dad and daughter who recently lost their mother/wife in a horrible traffic accident. They move into a house that has a sorted past and soon realize that they aren’t alone.

One of the main aspects of the book that I enjoyed was the two timelines of characters where the journal was used to explain the past. The building of all of the characters in the book was well thought out and I immediately found myself falling into the pages.

Fans of haunted houses will enjoy this book immensely.

I was given an ARC by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Happy reading!

So good!!! I'm always leery of the haunted house genre because it can quickly delve into the ridiculous or cliche, and this book did neither. It's a quick easy read that I didn't want to put down, and the scares are legitimate and plentiful. I would definitely recommend this.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the copy.

Recently widowed author Daniel, and his young daughter, Caitlyn, move into Nightingale House to begin their new lives. Unbeknownst to Daniel, Nightingale House has a dark past. Almost as soon as they move in, strange things happen. Unseasonably cold rooms, strange dripping, movement from the corner of Daniel's eye, standard haunted house things. As Daniel uncovers the secrets of Nightingale House, the house brings his own nightmares to life.
Nightingale House was a nice haunted house story. I liked how the past intermingled with the present, it gave it an even creepier edge than if we just followed Daniel through the stages of discovering his house was haunted. I found myself oddly emotional in certain parts. On a whole, I really enjoyed this book. It's a relatively quick read, as the pace of the story is quite quick. There's not a lot of extra details, Frech gets right to the story and doesn't stray with meaningless additions.
The one thing that I did notice is that it has a lot of similarities to Stephen King's Bag of Bones. I'm not complaining, as that's one of my favorite of King's novels. It's what Bag of Bones could have been without all the meaningless side plots.
I'd give this 4/5 stars. Thanks to Netgalley for giving me a chance to read and review.

I received a free advance readers’ copy in exchange for my honest review. Thank you NetGalley & HQ Digital!

Nightingale House tells the story of Daniel Price. He and his family started the process of moving into a new house after his new books gets on the bestseller list. However, tragically, his wife, Nicole dies in a car crash before they can move in. Daniel and his daughter, Caitlyn move into the new house alone. However, strange things start happening. He feels a very unpleasant presence in the house and Caitlyn starts talking to an imaginary friend she insists is real. Daniel quickly realizes that to save Caitlyn from the presence, he has to solve a very old mystery about the house’s original inhabitants or else Caitlyn could be gone forever.

The story was told in mainly the present with little excerpts of the past. Daniel is likeable and a great single father with Caitlyn being remarkably resilient as children can be. The two of them are clearly making the best of their post-Nicole lives even though they miss her like crazy.

The fear factor showed up early and stayed throughout the story. From the first few pages, weird events were occurring and I had already come to a conclusion about who or what was doing the haunting.

I would have liked to read more about what happened with Caitlyn’s teacher after the events but there was no mention of that. I finished the book feeling a bit curious about that part of the story.

All in all, it was a good book. I enjoyed it and would love to try another one of Steve Frech’s books.

“I can’t sleep…”

Daniel Price finally has it all—loving family, successful writing career and moving into their dream house. But in the blink of an eye, tragedy strikes, and Daniel finds himself a single father picking up the pieces and trying to move on for the sake of his daughter, Caitlyn. But his dream home suddenly starts taking on a life of it’s own…whispers in the dark, shadows that resemble something more, and nightmares that plague Daniel to the point of exhaustion. When Caitlyn begins to insist her imaginary friend is real, Daniel starts investigating the history of the house, and discovering the dark secrets hidden within Nightingale House…

As a lover of anything haunted house/paranormal related, I’m thrilled to say that Nightingale House did not leave me wanting for a good scare! From the beginning pages, I was captivated till the very end! Steve Frech just got promoted to my must-read author list! Highly recommend!

"Most of us don't know what happened in the rooms we live in before we arrived. We never hear of the tragedies that occurred in the room where we sleep or the unspeakable acts that took place years ago in the basement. And while the secrets of most houses are eventually forgotten, Nightingale House won't allow that."

Total spooky vibes with this one. I'm not so sure if I am a huge fan of ghost stories but this one was so well written I have no complaints. Daniel, a recently widowed dad finds himself moving himself and his daughter Caitlyn into their new house. The house is beautiful and definitely has loads of "character". After the passing of his wife, Daniel is trying hard to handle being a single parent, but something about the house just isn't right. I don't want to give too much away, since I went into this read blind and thoroughly enjoyed it. I read this in one day, so it is definitely binge-worthy. The author jumps right into the story and holds you in until the very end. I would totally recommend reading this one on a rainy day but if your easily spooked have a light on close by.

Actual rating: 3.5 out of 5

Nightingale House was well-written with full-developed characters. It was easy to read and kept my interest. However, for a haunting house story, there needs to be more spookiness. All in all, not a bad read.

Nightingale House is everyone's dream house: a beautiful Victorian home with a lot of history set in a breathtaking location. So when Daniel Price loses his wife prematurely, it just seems like the perfect place to start a new life with his infant daughter Caitlyn. And soon enough, the nightmare begins....

This was a great story -a classic haunted house story. The story contains snippets of the current story of Daniel and his daughter as well as an old diary from the 1900s. I am a sucker for classic haunted house / ghost stories so this was right up my alley. It reminded me of The Shining, Poltergeist..., and so on. The ending was satisfying and I liked the humour that was thrown in.

The novel is categorised under Mystery and Thrillers but as you can deduct from the blurb, it's more of a supernatural novel. It's not scary, let alone gory, but it is very spooky... like, really spooky!

An absolutely delight to read.
