Absolutely brilliant addition to this series of books. D K Hood literally draws you into the pages. Her writing is so vivid and descriptive, you can virtually smell that fresh pine air !!! This latest book is as fast paced as the others in the series and each time you pick up a new story, it is like meeting up with old friends. I have no hesitation in recommending this book and the series. 5 stars all the way.

For the 9th time already, Kane and Alton and their brilliant team outsmart a very disturbed psychopath in a very snow covered and freezing Black Rock Falls. Each and everyone of them thought they were clever enough to stay one step ahead of these great officers, but they all had to acknowledge the superiority of the determined officers.

What can I say that I have not said in previous reviews about this author? Nothing really. I keep repeating myself: great, disgusting baddies, wonderful good guys (and girls ;)), captivating story, great writing style. To make a long story short: I wanted the whole shebang and the author delivered!

Even though it was very warm outside where I sat reading in the sun, the author has a way to make everything feel so real, that I was tempted to put on a sweater too. :)

'My' queen of suspense can add another jewel to her crown. 5 stars.

Thank you, D.K. Hood and Bookouture

Another brilliant Kane and Alton story, I read this straight after “Her Broken Wings“ and was genuinely gutted when I’d finished them both, the characters feel just like old friends.
This book sees the gruesome discovery of some body parts pinned to a tree in the snow and ice in the mountains, imitating “art” It turns out there is more than one body and each girl was frozen, at different times. Jenna suspects this is the work of The Sculptor who committed similar murders and they call in the help of Jo Wells and Ty Carter for their expertise in reading the killer.
The body count grows and we also see life from the victims’ perspective, from when they are lured to the home of the man they call Preacher to when he murders them.
The team find a pattern, all the girls have dark hair and tattoos, and all are homeless so not missed by anyone.
Can they stop The Sculptor? Will Ava escape Preacher’s clutches before she becomes the next victim?
Weaving through the murder case is the story of Jenna and Kane’s budding relationship, and the jealousy Jenna feels when Kim Strickland, a nurse that Kane saves from a drugs den, attached herself to him, with disastrous consequences.
Hope it’s not long until the next one!

Once again Hood writes a novel worth your time. All the characters are back with a serial killer in town. With good old police work they track the killer at the end. This series doesn't shy away from main characters getting hurt or gritty crime. I love when Kane takes action😉
Thank you netgalley and the publisher for this arc

OH. My. Freaking. God.

I can't breathe. I just finished the book. And it is bloody brilliant.

Author D. K. Hood has written a fantastic thriller where I literally couldn't breathe at certain points. I had to remind myself that I needed oxygen too along with knowing the identity of the killer.

Jenna, Kane, and Wolfe were back and how!! Another lunatic had artived in Black Rock Falls and it was up to the Sheriff's Department along with Deputy Rowley to get to The Sculptor who was escalating with every kill.

What a book! I couldn't stop feeling the waves of thrill long after I finished reading it. The author had raised the stakes high with a Stalker and hints of romance. Every page brought the excitement close to the skin. I was almost flushed right through the read.

The characters had always been well etched. Ms. Hood always had been careful with her detailing. This one had some extra facets which added to mysticism of the characters. The plot was convoluted, the minds darkened beyond evil, every scene brought out the atmosphere of the black wintery skies where clues were few but the bodies were many.

Race against time was well felt, I sat on the edge of my seat to prod the team to rush to the killer. I could hear the dark whispers of the twisted mind in the chapters designated to the killer. I have loved all the books in the series. But this was extra special as it gave me the goosebumps along with waves of thrill.

A thriller-y police procedural. The best of what is out there in this genre.

I just love D,K Hood's writing style and i cant read her books quick enough, i'm just sad when they end as it means i have to wait for the next instalment. I cant put them down though so read in 2 sittings. Bring on the next book, just don't keep us waiting too long please!

Kane and Alton are torn away from their ski break as Kane spots a body, the first of many, brutally murdered and posed on the trees near the ski slopes. Holiday abandoned-darn!- I'd hoped they'd get a chance to move their relationship forward!-they embark on the pursuit of a serial killer who has a predilection for young , darkhaired girls with tattoos. He strangles his victims before dismemberment and then poses them in prominent places . Once again we meet FBI agents Jo and Carter though more briefly this time. It appears the killings are not just confined to Blackrock Falls and they have their most prolific killer to date to catch. The usual cast of Wolfe, Rowley, Webber and of course , Duke , Kane' s devoted hound, are in attendance and all adds up to a thoroughly engaging thriller of a detective book. I never tire of this complex duo and hope the lovely D.K.Hood can keep conjuring up killers for them to chase. She continues to tease us with hints of Jenna and Dave's growing closeness and even throws in a chaste kiss ! This series of books will have you enthralled and as eager for the next one as the killer is for his next victim . Gruesome murder at it's terrifying best..

Another of my favourite series and another gripping five star read. I love visiting Black Rock Falls but I wouldn't want to live there. A bit like Midsommer Murders. Sorry I digress, Guaranteed to have the most sadistic and twisted serial killers and this one is the best one yet. Known as the Sculptor, I will let you use your imagination. Atmospheric, chilling, creepy and darn right terrifying. In my opinion this author is Queen of Serial Killers in fiction. I have never been disappointed by one of this series. LOVED IT AND HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for the ARC.

Black Rock Falls... not a place to visit as it appears to be the place where serial killers love to choose their next victim !!!
while taking a well earned break Jenna Alton and David Kane are spending their time on the slopes but when frozen body parts are discovered in the trees their break is over

Number 9 in the series and showing no signs of letting up

I spent my public holiday Monday in Black Rock Falls, in the middle of winter. Once again it was another book full of action and murder. This is book 9 in the series, with no signs of letting up. I always look forward to seeing what sadistic and twisted serial killer is on the loose this time. It seems to be a hotspot for murder and you would not get me there for anything.

Jenna Alton and David Kane are enjoying a break from chasing killers and enjoying the winter with a ski vacation, close to home. Coming down the slopes Kane spots something unusual in the trees. On closer look it appears to be frozen body parts... vacation over. The team is assembled and the investigation begins. But it doesn’t end there and the bodies start to pile up. While also contending with a stalker and being snowed in they have their hands full. FBI consultants Jo Wells and Carter are called and help remotely. As we have come to expect, it ends with a dramatic action scene.

Highly recommend this series, but you definitely need to start at the beginning. This book is creepy and atmospheric with the scene of the woods and heavy snowfall.

Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for my advanced copy of this book to read

Love this set of characters it's good to catch up with their lives as they fight to catch another killer. Wouldn't want to live anywhere near them tho.

Thanks once again to #NetGalley and #Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review "Her Shallow Grave" by #DKHood.

Welcome to the 9th book in the Detectives Kane and Alton series - all of which I have read and thoroughly enjoyed (although, 'enjoying' serial killer mysteries is perhaps a misnomer).

And, welcome to Black Rock Falls, where it can go from zero to serial murder overnight. And this one's a doozie!
Jenna Alton and Dave Kane are enjoying a little ski vacation when there is a report of 'a tree decorated with body parts'. So much for a break in the mayhem! Hoping that it's a prank, but knowing that it probably isn't, they mobilize the troops and we're once again on the hunt for a killer.

When more bodies and body parts begin showing up around town - I'd become a hermit if I lived in Black Rock Falls, for fear of finding one of the current SK's trophies - they get the feeling that the current perpetrator may not be a local phenomenon; so they place a call to Jo Wells and her partner Carter and soon discover that they may actually be on the hunt for "The Sculptor". Unfortunately, Wells and Carter are snowed in and can only assist by phone, but the chemistry between both Jenna & Dave and Wells & Carter is still there.

In the midst of their hunt for this newest killer, Dave breaks up a kidnapping and possible rape; earning the gratitude of the prospective victim - who unwisely mistakes his rescue for a romantic gesture. Her stalking gets worse and worse, and the outcome is not pretty (for her).

Ultimately, the search for "The Sculptor" is another rip-roaring addition to the Alton & Kane saga. Highly recommended.

A very well deserved 5 stars.

The 9th book in the Alton and Kane series is full of suspense and some surprising twists. Black Rock Falls has a new serial killer who dismembers his young female victims and then displays them. With the snow that keeps falling there's no evidence to be found. They consult with FBI agents Wells and Carter again for assistance to narrow down a suspect. As the killer escalates Jenna becomes more determined than ever to catch him.
Ms. Hood has once again written an page turning book that hooks you from the start.

Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC.

Another amazing book! I finished this in about 2 days. The killer was creepy!!! I love the twist at the end! I completely thought the killer was someone else. One thing I love about this series is every time I read it, I can picture myself in Black Rock Falls!! DK Hood does an amayjob describing everything and everyone. Hopefully more comes from Kane and Alton after this book! Definitely recommend this author and this series!

This book was over too soon. Good thing it is a series. I loved the setting in the snow, and the relationships of the characters with the sheriff, especially Kane. He was my favorite. A lot of gruesomeness in this story, you will be glad when they find the culprit. I would call this a good police procedural that crosses with the world of the homeless, the people out on the streets., and the predators that are out there with them. Good read!

Black Rock Falls is a popular winter ski town until someone decorates the trees along the Glacial Heights Ski Resort slope with body parts. Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy Dave Kane can't believe their eyes when they see the discolored frozen arms and legs. What makes it even more alarming is when the Medical Examiner decides they are from two different female bodies. When no one is reported missing, Jenna turns to the homeless shelter in town to find the identity of the missing women. Jenna is more determined to find the killer when macabre snow sculptures turn up in town to scare the locals and the tourists. Dave has his hands full when he stumbles upon a kidnapping in progress and saves a woman from her abductors. The victim is so grateful that she is convinced Dave loves her and begins to stalk him. Is there a serial killer in town or is someone passing through and dropping bodies? Is Dave's admirer fanciful or does she have a sinister purpose for showing up wherever he is? Time is running out for the next victim.
This is the 9th book in the series started in 2017. I have not read any of the other books and it doesn't seem necessary to enjoy this thriller. The plot is well-developed and creates a balance between the subplots within the story. The suspense builds when Jenna and Dave have a few suspects to consider, any one of them could have transported and stored frozen bodies. Gruesome and enthralling, a perfect escape from present day reality. Now I have to find time to read the first 8 books in the series.

Book 9 in the series and I'll never get tired of reading it. Jenna and her team have to track down another brutal serial killer and as usual DK throws in red herrings to throw the reader off track, my heart stopped for a few seconds in one particular part of the story. I really enjoyed reading the latest book and hope the next isn't too far away. I got this as an arc to review and the opinions expressed are entirely my own views and are completely unbiased.

This is my first book by the author. I have always loved reading detective stories. This one had a lot of things going on. It is action packed and fully gripping. I would have definitely enjoyed it more if I have read it sometime later in my life as the narration is a little hard to get into (I felt). It is a cleverly plotted novel. I will definitely recommend this book and wait to read the next book in this series.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the book.

9th in the Kane and Alton series based in Black Rock Falls.
A serial killer is displaying bodies/body parts in the area- Jenna, Kane and the team rush to find the perpetrator as the body count increase.
I found the writing a little clunky and the storyline formulaic.
Exciting in parts as it reaches the climax.
The sub story of the nurse stalking Kane and then Jenna seemed to be an afterthought and disappeared half way through.
3 Stars.
