9th in Jane and Altom series.
My first time with this author.
Kane and Jenna have good working chemistry. A bit of the romantic chemistry too.
A thriller, suspenseful and graphic.

Full of action and suspense, this latest book in the series is gripping. With the creepiest case yet, Jenna, Kane, and the gang are up against a twisted mind. Added complications arise when Kane has an admirer. We get to see new sides to both Kane and Jenna. Dropping in again is Jo and Carter which was a welcome addition.
The mystery surrounding the killings is intense. With a limited number of suspects and information, the twists keep coming. I got this one wrong and was surprised by the reveal. There are a few developments between Jenna and Kane on a personal level. But seriously! This is the slowest budding relationship I've ever read. I love the deepening connection between the two and know the bond will be unbreakable but it's getting a bit frustrating.
This is one of those series that you look forward to. Everytime I see an upcoming release I get excited. This author never fails to bring a great story.

Amazing book in this fabulous series. As in prior books Sheriff Alton and Deputy Kane (and others) hunt a particularly gruesome serial killer. He freezes and then dismembers his victims and arranges their bodies around town. I have said before I will not ever visit Black Rock Falls except in this Author's books. We have an added "Oh My Goodness" to this book when Kane's stalker sets her sights on Jenna. Don't miss any of this series but especially this book. Thanks to NetGalley, Bookoutre and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book. Loved it! Bring on #10.

Sheriff Jenna Alton and her partner Deputy David Kane take on a new serial killer who is terrorizing Black Rock Falls in this, the latest entry into the Alton and Kane series. They may have just the most deranged killer yet on their hands.

Someone is murdering young women and after dismembering them leaving the body parts around the town in arranged positions. He leaves no clues; no forensic evidence. The pathologist, Dr. Shane Wolfe, figures they were frozen prior to being dismembered with a chainsaw.

The story is interspersed with little asides from both the killer and the captive's point of view.

Jenna and Kane ask local FBI Agents Jo Wells and her partner Ty Carter for assistance. Added to this is the fact that Kane has a stalker. When she is thwarted by Kane, the stalker sets their sights on Jenna – with dire consequences.

The investigation is intensive and they have some viable suspects. But, which one is it?

In an exciting standoff involving the suspect and a woman who managed to escape, the killer is both identified and finally subdued.

This is a very well written and plotted novel. The transitions are flawless and the story is very interesting and engaging. Ms. Hood does a remarkable job in describing the bitterly cold weather that has hit the area and all the attendant issues that arise out of such weather. I felt cold just reading it. I like Jenna and Kane and the rest of the gang. I like how they all work together so well and seem to be good friends as well as colleagues.

I want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for forwarding to me a copy of this very fine book for me to read, enjoy and review.

Number nine in the series. Sheriff Jenna Alton and her deputy David Kane are in the middle of one of the coldest winters.
A spare if murders are taking place. Young, seemingly homeless women are being murdered. They are frozen, diismembered and posed before being left around the town. The race is on to solve it before another murder takes place!!
D.K. Hood has outdone herself with this one. The best one yet!!! Superb!!!!!

This is book #9 of the Kane and Alton series. Whilst it can be read as a standalone book, I would recommend reading the books in series order for better understanding of the characters past storylines. We are back in the serial killer capital of America – Black Rock Falls – where not only do you not want to live, but you also don’t want to be the Sheriff having to deal with all these murders! It’s winter, and just when Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy Dave Kane thought it was safe for some time out to ski, another serial killer turns up!

I love this series of books and am always happy to see a new story added! This book is particularly gruesome with the serial killer having a penchant for cutting up bodies with a chainsaw and displaying them as works of art! With no clues to work on Kane and Alton yet again find they have a difficult job to identify the killer and with the body count rising quickly, they find that time is running out to find the killer. As usual, with this series, the pace is fast, the storyline is shocking and you are given so many dead ends and red herrings that you don’t get chance to work it out until they do!

Sheriff Jenna and Deputy Dave are both still plodding along as ‘just good friends’, despite me desperate to see something happen between them both over the last few books! I love Dave Kane’s character and we are shown a side to him in this book which we haven’t really seen before when he gets some unwanted female attention! To see Kane flustered and unsure what to do is definitely a new one for him! We are also treated to him showing us his combat skills fighting off a group of men, obviously on the road to recovery from other incidents in previous books! Having Kane and medical examiner, Wolfe around to watch your back all the time, you would think Jenna would be as safe as houses, but as usual she manages to put herself in the line of fire on more than one occasion – leading to some tense, nail biting situations!

This was definitely another suspense filled and high-powered thriller to add to the series. Set in a fantastic location, with the backdrop of snow-covered mountains, there really couldn’t be anywhere better for a serial killer to hide out! This author certainly knows how to write a book which will grab your attention at the turn of the first page and not let you go until you finish! With an ending you won’t see coming, you will be blown away by this storyline!! Roll on book #10!
