This is the second novel in this series
The pace of this book was so slow and as such it did lose my interest at times
A lot of the plot is completely unrealistic.

Very enjoyable mystery that had me hooked the entire way through. Pattison deals with uncomfortable subjects sensitively and keeps the reader guessing as to what the final outcome will be. I loved how the novel gave an insight into the deaf community through the school location, but also through the relationship of Paige and her sister. I listened to the audiobook of this novel and was so pleased that a deaf narrator was used for the chapters from the school friends’ perspective. It gave a real authenticity to the narration and helped submerge me in the world of the novel. This book was mysterious, dark, unpredictable and completely engaging.

This is the second book I have read in this series. I love that it isn't your normal police procedural book, I like that it give you an opportunity to learn about a different community. Again great story line and character amd I cant wait for the next book in the series.

Title: Silent Night (Paige Northwood #2)
Author: Nell Pattison
Publisher: Avon Books UK
Original Publication Date: November 12th, 2020
Source: NetGalley - Ebook
Genre: Mystery/ Thriller/ Crime Fiction

The Lincoln School for the Deaf is taking their residential students on a weekend getaway. These students unfortunately don’t have a home to go to, so they stay and live at the school. In order to get out of the school and some fresh air, their head teacher, Steve Wilkinson, decides to take them on a trip for the weekend, but everything goes terribly wrong. First Leon goes missing, not sleeping in his bed when everyone wakes up on Saturday morning. Then, when Mr. Wilkinson goes to look for him, he doesn’t return either, and after a few hours, the other staff decide to call the police.

Because of her skills as a BSL (British Sign Language) interpreter, Paige Northwood is brought in to help with the investigation and interviews. When no one can report anything suspicious, it seems like they have hit a dead end. Then, Mr. Wilkinson’s body is discovered on the grounds, and it seems like Leon might have had something to do with it. Did he kill his teacher? Did someone else and he ran away? Or was he kidnapped? Everyone is a suspect, and Paige is unsure where to help with her information, especially since a member of the staff is her abusive ex-boyfriend.

I really enjoyed this book, and while I had a suspicion of who the culprit could be (I had it narrowed down to two people), I still poured through the rest to the get to the ending. The only thing I found to be a little unrealistic was how much investigating Paige did on her own, and a little disappointing that she didn’t confide in Singh as much as she should have. She really could have kept him more in the loop. She obviously trusts him, so I didn’t understand the reasoning behind that. I highly recommend this book to read for fans of mystery and thriller.

The Silent Night by Nell Pattison is a gripping and intense thriller that keeps readers on the edge of their seats until the very end. The novel follows the investigation of a murder that occurs during an overnight school trip in the snowy woods. Five teenagers go to sleep, but only four wake up, and the search for Leon, the missing student, becomes a race against time.

Paige Northwood, a sign language interpreter, is brought in to help with interrogations, and as she becomes more involved in the case, she starts to suspect that there's something more sinister going on. With every character having a motive for murder, but also having an alibi, the investigation becomes increasingly complicated and frustrating.

The author does an excellent job of building suspense and creating a claustrophobic atmosphere as the characters are trapped in the snowy forest with a killer among them. The use of sign language adds an interesting layer to the story, and the author’s own experience as a sign language interpreter brings an authenticity to the narrative.

Overall, The Silent Night is a well-written and engaging thriller that will keep readers guessing until the very end. The characters are well-developed, and the plot is filled with twists and turns that will leave readers wanting more. It's a great read for fans of the genre and anyone looking for a thrilling page-turner.

Paige Northwood is a sign language interpreter that's kind of in between jobs. When she's asked to interpret for the local police, she has no idea what she's getting herself into. Paige finds out that her abusive ex-boyfriend works at the school where the murder took place, and gets more involved than she wants to.

I've never read a book centered around deaf people. The author managed to write in a way that made a great distinction between talking and signing, as that can be difficult to understand when you read words instead of seeing what's happening.

Silent Night is the second book in the Paige Northwood series and that's no problem if you haven't read any of the other books like me. We get to know Paige throughout the book and also the side characters are introduced like we don't know them yet.

The murder that has to be solved in the book was interesting in the beginning, but throughout the middle of the story I lost some interest due to lack of development. At the end the story picked up again as we got to know who did it.

The issue I did have with this story was that we were steered towards the most obvious murderers to take the attention away from the real one. It was simply too clear for me that was the case and annoyed me slightly. Throughout the book the steering became too repetitive for me.

Overall I did enjoy this book. The crime had enough depth, the subject of deafness in book was new to me and the characters weren't flat. Unfortunately the obviousness of the possible murderers did take away from the full rating.

A really good read, twisty and turny. I thought I had it sussed a couple of times only to be wrong. Very clever and I'm looking forward to reading more from the author.

Took me quite a while to get round to reading this book, I’m not sure if it was the cover or the title. However once I did actually start, it was a great read!

What a unique book! I couldn’t get enough of This, and I am glad it is part of a series because I will be reading the rest of the series and loving every second of it.

A murder mystery whose MC is a sign language interproter and witnesses are hearing impaired. Definitely a unique story line. A group of students from a school for the deaf spend the night on a camping trip. When they awaken, a teacher is dead and a student is missing. The investigation will definitely be challenging.
I really enjoyed this book, both for the mystery and the unique plot line.

Quite a fun read even if it was a bit easy to figure out what was going on early on. I think it may have been the first mystery book I've read with deafness involved and I felt that was handled very creatively. Another advantage was being able to read such a cool wintry tale while sitting here in the smoldering sun! Loved it!

When I read this book, little did I know this was apart of a series, when I was reading, it wasn't until the end I realised it was a series and felt this was great as a stand alone book. Absolutely enjoy this book, so much so I went back and read the book prior to this.

Thank you for the preapproved copy.

I didn't realize when I picked this book to read that it was the second in a series. I was able to read it as a standalone and don't feel I missed anything. I really enjoyed the book and the characters in the story. I will definitely be going back to read this author's debut novel!

Thank you for the chance to review this book. I was pleasantly surprised by this one and how it threw me some curveballs throughout. It got a little predictable but it was still good!

I was excited to read this one after enjoying the author’s first book in the series. Whilst this is a good police/crime thriller, I don’t think it packed a punch like the debut novel and found some aspects of the story a bit predictable (I worked out who the killer was).

That being said, I love the unique aspect to these stories and it is great to see deaf people represented in books in this way.

I have the next book in the series to read and I’m looking forward to seeing what comes of that!

I am so sorry it has taken me so long to read this one as once again Nell Pattison has absolutely knocked my socks off with a Paige Northwood mystery. Her debut was stunning, and this is EVEN better. I thought I had it all worked out and I was guessing up until the last page!! Cant wait to move onto Silent suspect and then any other book the author writes!

I found this to be an enjoyable read, keeping me on my toes throughout. The storyline was written well and flowed seamlessly. I look forward to reading more by this author!

After reading the first novel in this series, The Silent House, I was interested to see what the second book would be like.

Paige Northwood is a BSL interpreter and called to work with the police on a serious case at a school for deaf children. She discovers her abusive ex works there and he tries to make her life very difficult. Meanwhile, she’s trying to navigate her love life.

I found this book better than the first one. It was more gripping and twisty, with a plot that kept you guessing.

There are quite a few characters but once you get into the story it’s easy to keep track of who’s who.

I still found Paige a bit annoying but less so this time round. I’m still doubtful she would be in a job with the amount she shares with her sister and all the interfering she does 😂 However it is fiction.

This book is set in winter so it’s a great read for this time of year.

It’s readable and keeps you guessing, I would recommend it.

You don’t need to have read the first book, but it does help to give you more of an idea of the backstory between Paige and some of the other characters.

3.5 stars rounded to 3.

Thanks to Avon Books UK and NetGalley for a copy to review.
