After reading the first novel in this series, The Silent House, I was interested to see what the second book would be like.

Paige Northwood is a BSL interpreter and called to work with the police on a serious case at a school for deaf children. She discovers her abusive ex works there and he tries to make her life very difficult. Meanwhile, she’s trying to navigate her love life.

I found this book better than the first one. It was more gripping and twisty, with a plot that kept you guessing.

There are quite a few characters but once you get into the story it’s easy to keep track of who’s who.

I still found Paige a bit annoying but less so this time round. I’m still doubtful she would be in a job with the amount she shares with her sister and all the interfering she does 😂 However it is fiction.

This book is set in winter so it’s a great read for this time of year.

It’s readable and keeps you guessing, I would recommend it.

You don’t need to have read the first book, but it does help to give you more of an idea of the backstory between Paige and some of the other characters.

3.5 stars rounded to 3.

Thanks to Avon Books UK and NetGalley for a copy to review.

Silent Night Nell Pattison
This book just isn't grabbing my attention, I may come back to it at a later stage.

The character of Paige was very unlikeable for me throughout the book - and she grated from the very start. It was my first time reading this character's books and she failed to leave a sympathetic, lasting impression on me. As such, the whole mystery plot just fell to the wayside as I was struggling with the very vehicle of this whole story, aka the character of Paige

This is an outstanding thriller set in a school for the deaf. The character development in this book was excellent and I loved the different aspects of the deaf community. The suspense and tension building was well done as we attempt to discover exactly what happened to Leon.

Although this was a second book in a series I didn't feel.as if I missed anything reading it first.

Paige Northwood is a British sign language interpreter who helps the police with cases that involve deaf individuals. This is the second book in the series. In this book, Paige assists on a case involving a deaf school, a murdered head teacher and a missing student.
I really enjoy this series. The premise is unlike any other stories I've read. There are times when I feel that Paige is a bit naive which takes the story on a silly path but overall I enjoy all of the characters and the plot lines. I was surprised by the ending!
If you're looking for a quick read and a fun mystery then check this book out!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book was slow for me. It was good, but I had to push myself to finish it. The one thing I did like about it were the characters. The deaf community isn't represented enough in books, tv shows, etc, so it was an interesting twist on a classic thriller.

Lots of twists and turns in this, which kept me entertained and wanting to keep reading it. Definitely one I would recommend.

Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. The background of being set in a deaf community is so unique, it really makes you think a lot about how those who are deaf communicate and how hearing person(s) should learn sign language to communicate.
The story was fast paced and kept me interested. This is part of a series which I have started but can be read alone. Lots of twists in the story which I did not expect.

Accidentally requested this book and ended up really enjoying it. It was a fast read, mysterious, had plot twists and was just as good as book one Silent House if not more! Thriller fans will enjoy this one!!

Silent night is a thriller with 2 mysteries in 1. There is a link between a lost child and a murder but it takes a while to figure out quite what it is. I really enjoyed the suspense and learning about all the different characters along the way, including the main character paige. I found her likable, and the inclusion of her ex relationship with Mike added an interesting angle. I did guess the murderer fairly early on but couldn't figure out a motive so was still kept guessing and wondering throughout. All in all I really enjoyed it and look forward to reading the next book in the series.

I absolutely LOVE these books with deaf characters and I love seeing the Deaf community and the hearing community try to communicate. These books are both fascinating from a cultural standpoint as well as a thriller genre standpoint! Thank you so much for highlighting this!

I have yet to read The Silent House - I have the book, but haven’t yet found the prerogative to actually pick it up (No, don’t kill me yet.)

So when I found the opportunity to read and listen to the second book in the protagonist’s unintentional quest to solve mysteries - I didn’t resist and picked it up immediately!

Paige Northwood, is the only hearing member of her deaf family - and now lives with her sister. She freelances as a BSL interpreter whenever and wherever requested and required. Today, she gets a call for her help at the School for Deaf - a school that her sister also went to - a cal to help when a young teenager goes missing in the midst of a camping trip.

What Paige doesn’t expect is that her ex - boyfriend, with whom she had a traumatic and abusive relationship with, is now an employee of the school. And while she takes a vow, not to go investigating on her own; somehow that vow takes a nosedive when she finds herself being involved in the two simultaneous cases that are in want to be solved.

This is the second book in The Paige Northwood series, though it didn’t seem like I was actually missing anything from the first book - the author has done an amazing job of actually putting the strings together to make sure that the reader didn’t ind themselves lost.

The mystery was quite intriguing; and the way Paige handles, not only her own vulnerabilities but also the case itself in spite of the danger it posed, had me thoroughly invested in the book from the start till the end.

Definitely worth a read, especially if you are a lover of mystery and thriller genre and would love to read something new.

So chilling. This made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
I couldn’t even begin to imagine not hearing anything. Such a great read I couldn’t put it down.

I highly recommend Silent Night to thriller fans, especially if you want to read a novel about the deaf community.
This was a very well-written and enjoyable book. The mysteries continued throughout the story with many unexpected twists and turns. The characters were likable, annoying, and entertaining with solid backgrounds.

I enjoyed this book and would read the next book in the series. It was by no means a thrilling page turner but it was an easy entertaining read nonetheless.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for an advance copy of this title in exchange for an unbiased review.

I would rate this book 3.5 out of 5 stars.

I enjoyed the first book in the Paige Northwood series so I was excited to be approved for an e-ARC of this sequel.

Once again, fantastic representation - I have really enjoyed reading these stories set within the deaf community. I think they add a lot to the stories themselves while also making me much more aware of how deaf people deal with certain issues and different struggles that they have that I have just never considered before.

I do find parts of the story a little frustrating. When the main character constantly withholds information from the police as she is not sure whether it is important enough or whether she is misinterpreting a situation, I am always yelling at the book for her to just tell the police and to let them figure that out!

I don't think the mystery in this story was overly predictable, which is another point in the books favour.

If you're interested in a fun mystery with great representation then check this one out.

Before I talk about how much I liked the book in general, I must say that I liked the narrative's focus. I have never read a fictional story written so entirely immersed in the deaf community. This is the second book in a series, but that particular point did not bother me much.
Our lead protagonist works as a freelance interpreter; since she was the only hearing person in her family, she is comfortable in the role. There are two parts to the story, one is a missing teenager, and another is a dead Head of a deaf school. We have cliques, secrets - both in the lives of the people at the school as well as in Paige's. The writing is smooth, and the reading was effortless, but that was about it. The story itself was a little predictable. The author directs our attention in such a manner that I guessed a lot of the reveal, which meant that there was little for me towards the end. I even got the smaller arcs right, and since this is not something I do on purpose, I was a little disappointed. If a reader is not the guessing type or reads fewer stories of this ilk, this will be a much better experience. The characters are interesting and have many facets, and their lives are pretty full of conflicting situations. I am not a fan of even tentative love triangles; the presence of one did bother me. Overall, if given a chance, I would pick up the next book just to revisit a series with a unique focus.
I received an ARC thanks to NetGalley and the publishers, but the review is entirely based on my own reading experience.

The second in the Paige Northwood series of books. Paige is a BSL interpreter who gets employed by the police to interpret for the death community when a young person goes missing on a school trip.

It was good to revisit some past characters from the first book and also to find out a bit more about Paige’s background.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and of course the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Having read Nell Pattison's first book, The Silent House, I couldn't wait to read the follow up book.
And Silent Night was even better than The Silent House.
I devoured this book within 48 hours and could not put it down.
It was great to catch up with the existing characters (ie. Paige, Rav, etc.) but also to see them handle a new case.
It wasn't obvious where the plot was going and who the killer was, which is what made it so gripping.
It was an unexpected but great ending.
I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for any future releases from Nell Pattison and already have the third book in the series, The Silent Suspect, on my list to read next.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
