This book is the sequel but I don't think it's necessary to read the first book to get the idea of how tough life was for this woman while she was growing up. The fact that she graduated high school and then college is remarkably encouraging. She definitely beat the odds. Warning that there is a lot of language that some people will find offensive. But remember the environment she was in. She writes with a raw and honest touch.
