Kat Martin is a genius and one of my LONG-TIME favourite authors! In my eyes, she can do no wrong in any story I have ever read.

Quickly turning the pages to follow this story -I loved the suspense, the romance and the intensity of the plot. Dive in and enjoy the ride! It is fast-paced and expertly written, as per Kat Martin is known to deliver to readers.

Even though this book was the 3rd in a series, I jumped in and loved the story. Should I have read the first 2 books - duhh absolutely! Will I now go back and read them - HELL YEAH! Should you read this book - MOST DEF! But I'd suggest picking up book 1 + 2 first ;)

A huge thank you to NetGalley, Kat Martin and Harlequin-Romance for providing me with an eARC of this publication which allows me to provide you with an unbiased review.

Jessie is a journalist who finds herself in a fair share of trouble when it comes to her writing but it clear that someone wants to stop her from looking into her fathers case after a few attempts at her life. She goes to he late brother's friend Brandon to help about and after someone tries to silence her he knows he just has to help her with her case. He can be be her bodyguard as she digs deeper into what's really going on and finally prove her fathers innocence.

Whew this book was a journey and a half. So much to hook the readers and keep them on their toes. I loved seeing how they would pick up clues and get closer to finding her fathers killer as well as figure out who framed him. Then theres the romance I enjoyed it but to be honest I was more into the case. I loved that the main characters hardly had a moment of peace before something else happened and I just love a good action packed mystery thriller. Overall great book highly recommend!

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. Author Kat Martin knows how to piece together both a romantic story and a story of great suspense. This had me flipping pages late into the evening. Strong characters and story.

The Ultimate Betrayal by Kat Martin is the third book in the Maxim Security Series. The Ultimate Betrayal was a fast-paced, action-packed read with a fantastic romance. Jessie and Bran's relationship starts out fairly slowly despite an obvious attraction on both sides. Bran doesn't want to dishonor his friend by starting something with his sister that's not likely to turn into something real whereas Jessie has issues being touched after she was previously sexually assaulted.

Jesse is trying to clear her father's name.

Thank you to Netgalley and the author the opportunity to read this book for an honest review. Jessie's father a Colonel was accused of espionage and treason then dies suddenly of a heart attack after having a perfect physical, Jessie wants to get to the truth. Jessie turns to her late brothers best friend and military partner Special Forces Bran. When Jessie goes to see Bran, she is shot at and on the run, Bran protects her and tries to get to the truth all while the bad guys are after them. This was a sexy romantic suspense that was a fun read, totally recommend.

After reading the first two books in the Maximum Security series, I was hopeful about this third in the series. The first book was okay, and the second was a little better, leaning more toward the positive, so I was really hoping that this one would move further in that direction. Instead, The Ultimate Betrayal went the other way, and the strange thing about that is Jessie and Brandon are both the types of characters I like. He's an alpha male without being obnoxious about it, and she's a strong woman who can take care of herself, so even though she needs some help, she's not the damsel in distress type. So, my problem wasn't with the romantic couple, it was with the over the top pieces of the story. First, there's Jessie and everything she's been through. It's like the universe threw one big ball of bad at this woman and everything stuck. Then, along comes Brandon, whose love, or lovemaking as the case may be, miraculously heals her. I just didn't buy it. Finally, there are the many characters. Maybe it's just me, but it felt like this one had more than necessary to move the plot along. Some of that could be due to the number of red herrings - I mean, you have to have characters to cover them, and there's nothing wrong with red herrings if the answer isn't quite as obvious as it is here. I don't know, maybe it's me, maybe it's the story, or maybe it's a combination of both, but The Ultimate Betrayal wasn't the book for me. Kat Martin is talented, and I've enjoyed other books by her - this just doesn't happen to be one of them.

The Ultimate Betrayal by Kat Martin is Book 3 in the Maximum Security Series. It’s the story of Jesse Keegan who is determined to clear her father’s name of betrayal to the country, but before that can be done he dies. Jesse is convinced that he has been murdered, buy by whom? Since Jesse is a journalist she decides to investigate the case but is soon becomes a target. Because of this she decides she needs some help. Enter bodyguard Brandon Garret a member of Maximum Security, but more important to Jesse is the fact that he was in the military with her brother Daniel. Bran has survivor’s guilt as Daniel saved his life as the price of his own. So of course he is going to help her, but before they can even start to do this the office is bombed. Is it connected to what Jesse is investigating? How will Bran handle being attracted to Jesse with his guilty feelings about her brother? Is Jesse’s father REALLY guilty? Only way to find out is to read this excellent book from Kat Martin. Just FYI: There’s lots of excitement with bullets flying, and danger around every corner!

Journalist Jessie Kegan always stands by her stories, often making her career a priority in her life. However, when her father has been accused and jailed for espionage and treason, Jessie is determined to do anything she can do to clear his name. It is quite clear that a terrorist is at bay and Jessie is thrust into a maelstrom of events. For one thing, her father never made it to trial. He died of an apparent heart attack, but Jessie doesn't believe that for one minute. So, she now has a double duty - clear her father's name and find his killer. With the exceptional skills she has acquired to to the research that goes into her freelance journalism, she goes in head first. However, this soon places her life in danger.

Brandon Garrett works for Maximum Security and one day a gorgeous woman comes in the door asking for help. She is Jessie Keegan, sister to his best friend Daniel. This saddens Bran because Daniel was killed in action in Afghanistan while saving Bran's life. Although pained at the memories of Daniel, Bran agrees to shadow Jessie, and not a moment too soon, because right after she introduces herself, his office is assailed by bullets. Has the inquiries Jessie is about to tell Bran about already placed her in danger?

Jessie tells Bran of her concerns. She tells him how her father lost everything after being accused, and that she is certain that his death was the perfect scapegoat for the real criminals. She knows she excels with her job, but things are already getting far too hairy. Of course, Bran steps in and helps. One problem that affects them both is that they share in instantaneous attraction that soon proves impossible to ignore.

Just like the previous books in this series, as well as the novellas, which are included in my Maximum Security series review, this book is exciting from beginning to end. Bullets, destruction and danger are dogging Bran and Jessie's every step. Then the fact that the sexual tension exuding itself between them makes this story an incredible read. This exciting story blends action and romance together marvelously, thus making The Ultimate Betrayal an excellent read and a wonderful addition to the series. I am very much looking forward to more books in the series.

Many thanks to HQN Books and to Edelweiss for this ARC to review. This is my honest opinion.

DNF at 33%. I’m not feeling a connection to this story - despite lots of action I am not drawn in. I’m also not feeling the chemistry between Jessi and Bran. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance reading copy.

Jesse and Bran have an insurmountable task, take on the government to prove her Father was not a traitor. Not to mention the small problem of staying above in the interim. Brad feels an obligation to protect Jesse because he feels guilt over her brothers death while the served together in Afghanistan. Additionally, getting involved with Danny's sister on a personal level seems wrong. Jesse has other ideas and is a force to be reckoned with. Kat Martin has another winner in the Maximum Security series.

I don't know why, but summer is my favorite season to read Romantic Suspense. The hot nights and hot topics are probably behind this! The Ultimate Betrayal (the 3rd in the Maximum Security series) takes readers on a wild ride as Jessie races to uncover her father's killer. I really enjoyed the reading ride with this book.

Fast paced and bullets flying, Ms. Martin fires off this new book in the series off with an adrenaline rush in chapter one. I love how Jessie is pragmatic. She is straight to the point: hello my name is... my brother knew you and trusted you... by the way, people are trying to kill me... Sorry! Jessie is the kind of character I like because she is good with communication, prepared and owns her own mistakes. She is a bit headstrong but that comes with the territory as an investigative journalist.

The characters in this story are loving created. I find them to be mature and appealing. Brandon Garret is the man Jessie reaches out to for some help to clear her father's name. She knows Brandon and her dead brother were close in the military. She is counting on their ties to give her a little boost. What she receives is much more. Brandon is the knight in shining armour, ready to rescue this damsel in distress. Luckily for him, Jessie is not completely clueless.

The plot and suspense portions of this story are well done. The plot flows well and nicely integrates the romantic angle between Jessie and Brandon. The suspense is well designed in finding out who threw Jessie's father under the bus and destroyed his name. The conspiracy keeps a reader guessing and the betrayal is a bit brutal. It is not a surprise at who is the perpetrator as Ms. Martin provides good leads for readers to easily draw the right conclusions.

One thing that did stick out to me is how Jessie feels about law enforcement agencies. She fully believes in them and sometimes came across as unrealistically positive about their abilities. In the current client where law enforcement is being painted unfairly and demonized, I found this surprising and pleasant.

This romantic suspense is recommended for readers who enjoy proving a conspiracy under pressure as people are out to get you.

Jessie’s has lost her entire family, with her father the latest death to bear. His death, however, was from murder. If she can only prove that. She turns to her dead brother’s best friend for help.

The book was an entertaining read, although predictable. Even some of the dialogue was cliched, such as “Do you believe in God?” Question before a dangerous moment, followed by the request for a prayer. Other dialogue was sexist, such as when Brandon commented that only women could decorate a house, but worse is when Jessie didn’t mind his comment.

Despite some of the flaws, it’s a good book. Kat Martin always delivers.
