Another winner from Kat Martin! She has a formula, and it totally works. The only downside was the wishy-washy feelings of the H and h. She’s unsure of his lifestyle; he feels unworthy. So much back and forth. You’re both hot and fabulous - get over it! lol

I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

ARC received for review

Good read with chemistry, romance, and a mystery to solve (which I did before they did), but it was slow in places and they got shot at way too much.

When his best friend's sister asks for his help in proving her father innocent of being a traitor what's a guy to do? Brandon Garrett is between jobs as a body guard when Jessie Kegan walks into his Maximum Security Office and explains why her father is innocent and how she wants to prove it. When gunshots explode through the windows of the office and a black SUV with tinted windows speeds away, Brandon is convinced that Jessie needs protection. Colonel Kegan can't defend himself against the charges because he has been found dead of a heart attack, so it's up to Jessie and Brandon. Brandon is instantly attracted to Jessie and tries to keep their relationship on a professional level even if she has a sweet little body to match her fiery long hair. The relationship between Brandon and Jessie is a steamy one, complicated by Brandon's loyalty to her dead brother and his best friend.

This is book #3 in the series, I have not read the first two. It can easily be read as a stand-alone. Martin weaves a story of espionage, romance, mystery, and murder. This is a classic story of who can you trust and who is telling the truth? It becomes obvious pretty quickly that there is more going on than just the theft and time is running out. A quick fun read!

The Ultimate Betrayal by Kat Martin is a smoldering romance and an intriguing mystery. The opening scene sets the pace for the action and suspense. Jessie comes to Brandon for help in proving that her father did not betray his country. Jessie is not the stupid female that you yell at in the book to not make stupid decisions.

Brandon feels like he owes his life to Jessie and her family. Her brother died saving his life in the war. He agrees to help Jessie with researching what happened to her father. Immediately people try to stop them. But figuring out who is the biggest question and who can they trust. Since they seem to know every where they are.

There are several secondary characters that each added their own dimensions to the story. The story is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone. I do enjoy that other characters from the series make appearances.

Sexual content – several scenes with details. At times you forget it is a mystery as the physical part takes over.
Violence – a few people die, and Jessie and Brandon’s lives are threatened throughout the novel
Language – f word 12 times, Gd*mn was used once, Sh(t and d@mn 24 times total
Drinking – minor drinking.

I received this book from Netgalley. I was not required to write a positive review.

Just when I think that I've got it all figured out. Nope, another player enters to try and take them out. Jessie and Bran trust each other to handle what needs to be done to clear her dads name and find the real terrorist. The Ultimate Betrayal, is full of so many twist and turns that I never knew what to expect when I turned the page.

The Ultimate Betrayal was a fast read, full of suspense, intrigue, and romance. I've not read other books by Kat Martin but I will probably look for more books by her. Some mysteries can be solved within a few chapters but this one had enough twists and turns to keep me interested.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.

Jessie Kegans father has been accused of treason and espionage. Jessie is convinced her Father is innocent but before she can prove it he dies of an apparent heart attack. Jessie is convinced he was murdered and now she is being threatened. She goes to Brandon Garrett for help. Jessie’s brother saved Brandon’s life and lost his in the process. There is nothing Brandon won’t do to protect Jessie and help her find out the truth. It was hard to know who could be trusted as Jessie and Brandon keep running into dead ends. This is a fast paced thriller with a romance thrown in. It will keep you turning the pages to find out what happens. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

Kat Martin writes a great blend of Romance, mystery and suspense but this time the romance took over the story having readers skipping several pages to get back to the plot hoping for answers that is haunting both Jessie and Bran.

This can be read as a stand alone novel.

The characters are likable and Jessie isn't your typical stand in the way female. She is able to take care of herself and knows when to ask for help. So no need to yell Do not go in that room!

Bran is typical characters for his type of book and setting.

Many times readers will have to suspend their belief as these two can not seem to keep from being shot, hit, almost killed many times.

The ending is predictable and readers will be able to figure it out before the characters do. These are the reason I am unable to give the book 5 stars

It is well written the background of the characters is the perfect amount, the cast of characters each have a purpose and a reason to be there.

Kat Martin is one of the best at weaving Romance and Suspense in to a perfect story. However she falls just short for this reader.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy of Kat Martin The Ultimate Betrayal.

You know what you will get from a Kat Martin novel: a gutsy heroine and an alpha hero who is most likely former military and extremely protective of the heroine. Together they must fight off numerous baddies while trying to figure out who is out to get them. The action will be practically non-stop with the hero having to save the heroine over and over again. Then they’ll stop and make love and then continue their battles against the bad guys. It’s a pattern with most of her novels, but I still really enjoy her books.

That’s what you’ll get in her newest novel. She is really tops at writing non-stop romantic thrillers. I started this one in the evening and couldn’t go to bed until I finished. I knew that they would get their HEA and stop all the baddies by the end of the book, but I wanted to see how that would happen. If you like romantic thrillers, you’ll enjoy this book.
