The Way to Manresa by Brendan McManus, SjJ is a really good book. Its about his journey along the Ignatian Camino Pilgrimage trail to Manresa, where St. Ignatius penned his Spiritual Excercises I felt like I was on the journey with Brendan. I love St. Ignatitius, and felt quiet a connection to him in this book.

The Way to Manresa is an incredibly inspiring tale about a man's pilgrimage in Spain in the footsteps of a Spanish soldier turned priest, Ignatius of Loyola. I loved this book, especially the first part (70%?) where Brendan is walking the Camino Ignaciano. It brought back fond memories of my own pilgrimage on Camino de Santiago fifteen years ago. I loved how he interspersed his insights from the journey with the Jesuit teachings. I knew nothing about the Jesuits before reading this book and, as a non-Christian, was pleasantly surprised that the teachings were so spiritual and could appeal to others outside of the Christian faith. Toward the end of the book, the story became more preachy and less interesting, but the first part more than makes up for it.

Don't be put off by the fact that the author, Brendan McManus, is a Jesuit priest. The insights and ruminations are universal and will apply to anyone on their spiritual path. It shows how wonderful Christianity could be without the dogma, guilt, and discrimination.

Note to author/publisher: In the copy I read there were also major formatting issues, including several pages where chunks of words ran into each other without spaces in between.
