Ok, how is this not more popular! I wasn't sure what exactly to expect when reading this one but what a good read! It's captivating and I had a hard time putting this one down. Love the historical aspects and the voyage at sea.

I haven't read many books to do with sea travel and this was perfect for me. I can't believe I waited so long to read this one.

I will definitely have to go and check out this author's other books.

This was not the best read. The plot was a bit uninteresting. The most interesting information is the fact that the characters were on the Mayflower sailing to the New World. A thin plot and not terribly convincing characters. I finished the book but I would not particularly recommend it.

Jedediah Trelawney (Jed) finds himself on the crowded Mayflower in 1620 bound for, what would become, the United States of America.

The reason for Jed's inclusion on the Mayflower's voyage is not initially clear although how he came to be there is deftly described as the story proceeds. However, Jed has a dark secret that threatens not just his life on the Mayflower but his future in the new colony. It appears that his secret may be known and John Billington seems happy to exert his power (and knowledge of Jed's secret) over Jed to belittle and blackmail him .

The conditions on the Mayflower on the crossing are described unfiltered and 17th Century travel is brought to life in brutal detail, not every makes it to the end of the voyage.

Jed finds his role and develops feelings for Desire. There are highs and lows aplenty and you will be glad you took the time to read this. The ending is very satisfying and there is a useful glossary at the end of the book.

this was a really interesting historical novel, I enjoyed that it made me think about what it was like on the Mayflower.

Running from the law in England, Jed takes passage on the Mayflower to America. He agrees to earn his way by working as a sailor, but having no experience he is shunned by the more experienced sailors aboard ship. The passengers endure multiple savage storms, seasickness, disease, and malnutrition during the long journey. Asked to help the doctor when his assistant falls ill, Jed finds his true cslling in medicine.
I really enjoyed this book. It described the difficult life aboard ship for both the passengers and crew in great detail. I especially enjoyed the parts where he helps the doctor with the many ailments and injuries throughout the journey.

Jed ends up on a ship called Mayflower. The story is about him being aboard the ship and his daily life.

I've never made a summary in only one sentence. It does show how flat the plot is. I adore historical fiction and most of all old ships. However, the story was boring for the most part. Which Is why I decided not to finish the book. The main character was also getting on my nerves.
Overall, the details are great and it is historically correct. The setting around the story is very accurate and makes this book interesting.

It's not what I expected, and I wasn't sold to the concept.

I enjoyed reading this book because I found out about the journey of the travellers to America on the Mayflower. Also there was a good storyline which kept me interested and wanting to know what happened to Jed. There was lots of good description, especially the storms at sea and life on board the ship. I do recommend that you read this book.

A novel of The Mayflower, and the intrepid souls who band together to reach the new world. As in any group, there are those who are selfish, who are helpful, who blackmail, who have a single-minded purpose, who use their power for good, and those who misuse power. And everyone has secrets.

A well-written and enjoyable look back at those who came to America to start a new land and a new life.

What’s so special about you?’ Jed shook his head. ‘There’s nothing special about me.’ Passengers crammed onto the deck. Every man, woman and child jostled for an unobstructed view of those gathered to wave goodbye. Jed pressed his palms against the smooth wood of the gunwale behind him and pushed his body forward to avoid being crushed.

Premise/plot: Jedediah Trelawney is the protagonist of Dionne Haynes' new historical novel chronicling the voyage of The Mayflower in 1620. He is a young man with a secret that may or may not come back to haunt him. It seems SOMEONE on board knows the secret he is running from. But he doesn't know who or what they intend. He works for his keep on board and eventually becomes assistant to the doctor and the barber/surgeon on board. He plans to continue his 'apprenticeship' of sorts when they land. The book covers almost all aspects of life on board. And there is nothing glamorous and charming about it. It gets gritty and gross at times. (For example, when he's popping boils on personal locations of others.)

My thoughts: I liked this one well enough. It was a big graphic medically. There was one sexual fantasy/dream that was a bit graphic. But it was clear that it was his fantasy and not actually happening. Since it was such a small snippet of the book, that I can overlook. But some of the gritty perhaps all too realistic scenes of medical treatments turned my stomach a bit. Boil popping should not be the stuff of fiction!!!!

Running With The Wind by Dionne Haynes provides a magnificent in-depth and emotional story about Jed's voyage experiences on a ship to America. This amazing historical story allows the reader to take part in the fears and secrets that Jed carries in the depths of his heart. The author allows the reader to connect with Jed's uncertainties and the uncomfortableness of being on a ship with a range of hardcore sailors. Although he strives to form part of this most complex environment, he maintains his will to help people on the ship and find easier ways to assist passengers who struggle to cope with this extraordinary journey. Jed's secret became his enemy and he needed to find a way to deal with it. The author offers a most fascinating historical account of a person who wants to reach America carrying his own hopes and fears inside of him.

I didn't want this book to finish. Jed had a secret that he desperately wanted to hide. This thread had a subtle twist together with friendship and romance. However, the plot was not obvious and highly entertaining. I've always been intrigued by the story of the Mayflower voyage. I wasn't disappointed with this storyline.

When I seen that the book featured the Mayflower I was intrigued and decided to give it a go. I wasn't disappointed!
This is another favorite time period in history for me. Not much is written in Christian fiction featuring this ship.
I loved the plot and the I enjoyed making friends with some of the characters.
Don't we all have a past that we like to keep hidden? Some darker than others? But there's One who knows all no matter what your situation is He sees all! What's the old saying " you can run but not hide"?
I like the character Jed. I almost felt sorry for him when someone decided they wanted to bully and threaten him. Such people make me so mad!
In this way, I can relate to Jed! I've been done the same way but fortunately they got tired of it and left me alone. I found myself rooting for him throughout the book.
I felt his frustration and pain from his past coming to me from the pages of this book.
I enjoyed the journey and I learned much. Medicine has come a long way from the 1600's. I feel that we still have a long way to go where that's concerned.
Life on board certainly has it challenges and that goes with any ship even in today's world.
I highly recommend this book and I hope we get to see Jed settled in his new home in future books!

Running With the Wind is an exciting and detailed story of the Mayflower's journey to America. Jed is a man running from the law because of a murder he committed. He never denies it, but it is his biggest secret. While working on the ship, he becomes friends with the doctor and his apprentice. While working with the doctor, he decides to study to become a doctor himself. He meets Desire, a woman near his age on the journey. He falls in love with her, but she sends him a mix of signals. Great story that is thought provoking.

I did not expect to enjoy this book as much as I did. Dr. Haynes is a new author to me but after reading the blurb I was hooked. I loved the historical details of life aboard ship, medical treatments, techniques, historical accuracy and the Christian message in this book. The characters were realistic as were their adventures. Plenty of action and intrigue on this small ship.I hope this will turn into a series of historical books. I look forward to reading more books by Dionne Haynes.
