I love to read books by Elin Hilderbrand and this one did not disappoint! It is a wonderful realistic fiction full of charming, loveable characters living in the Virgin Islands. Each chapter is written from the perspective of one of the characters so the reader gets to experience the thoughts and feelings of the character as they react to what is happening at that time in the story. The love story between Huck and Irene and Baker and Ayers is like riding an emotional rollercoaster. Even though this is the third book of the series, it is not hard to pick up the story from this point. The author does a great job of giving enough background on each of the characters for a new reader to keep up and not feel like they had to read the previous books to follow the story. I highly recommend this book to readers that enjoy a dramatic story!

In case I haven’t beaten the dead horse enough, let me remind you that I’m not a series reader. Truth be told, this could go down as Exhibit A for the reason. This story could have easily been wrapped up in one book, but unfortunately when I got the first one I didn’t realize it was going to end in a mothereffing CLIFFHANGER so it was too late for me to backpeddle and I got sucked into number two. That one was just as I expected it would be – a filler book. And then there’s the finale. You’re already roped into finding out the conclusion of what happened with the dead hubby and making sure everyone gets their “happily for nows” so there’s no escaping it. Especially when it’s G.D. October and the snow is blowing so hard you can't see the neighbor's house.

Yeah, I’ll take one of those winters in paradise stat.

4.5 stars!
The third installment of the Paradise trilogy follows Irene as she returns to the island of St. John in the British Virgin Islands in the wake of losing her husband’s assets to the FBI after they find him guilty of white collar crime. After their villa is seized, Irene’s two sons, Baker and Cash, are forced to find alternate living arrangements that puts pressure on their personal relationships. Irene is trying to figure out if she is ready to start a new relationship with Captain Huck, her boss on the fishing charter boat she works on. Maia is navigating life without her mom and Ayers is trying to recover from a devastating break-up with Mick. Needless to say, there is a lot of trouble in paradise. Thanks to @netgalley and @littlebrown for this ARC.

This book was exactly what I needed. My October reading has been focused on thrillers and horror and this was a totally different genre that lightened things up for me. These are some of the best characters Elin has ever created. I was obsessed with all of them and I couldn’t stop reading. I actually cried at the end because it was over...and I NEVER do that. The novel explores loyalty, family and love as the Steeles leave their mark forever on St. John. It had the perfect amount of action mixed with romance. The setting was magnificent and it helped me escape the dreary rain that has been settling into my area lately. Thank you Elin for always giving me another good read to dive into.

This is a conclusion of the St. John Trilogy and it classic Elin Hilderbrand. In the end everything works out , but not necessarily a fairy tale ending, but a believable one. Some things one can predict (the baby in this book), but then she throws in a surprise--Margaret Quinn in this book and the biggest coincidence--Irene being Mitzi Quinn's cousin! It makes her readers all feel like insiders to the book's characters. My only complaint is that there aren't more Hilderbrand books to read--I will look forward to the next one.

Just when I thought Elin couldn't produce another book to top her last one, she did! I was so sad that this trilogy has ended, but truly enjoyed stretching out and savoring the last of the winter series. A winter series based in the islands is something of a dream. Elin writing truly takes you to the different places in the islands and makes you feel as if you've transported there for the duration of the book. The family portrayed in this series is one that you can relate to! You won't want to put it down, BUT don't forget to buy and read the first two in the series FIRST!

Was this my favorite of the Paradise series?? No. But even with that being said -- I still give it five stars!! I will miss the Steele family and a still kinda hope she changes her mind and writes another one. I feel like this ending was a little phoned in -- but I'd still love to see her dive a little bit deeper into.main character Irene and see where she goes from here

Irene Steele has left her gorgeous Victorian home behind to live on the tropical island of St. John. As we know from books one and two in the series, there are so major questions still in the air about her now deceased husband's job as well as his extramarital affair. The FBI is involved, so obviously this is serious. In fact, the FBI take over the family's villa and now they have no where to live! This is especially a problem for the oldest son, Baker, who is moving to the island with his young son. Things get complicated for Baker, not to mention the fact that Baker's love interest, Ayers, looks to be back with her ex-fiance. Things aren't going as smoothly as planned for the Steeles and before they know it, a major storm is heading right for St. John. Troubles in Paradise is a satisfying end to the Paradise series, which has proven to be the perfect fall escape these past few years.

As mentioned things get complicated for Irene in Troubles in Paradise. There's the fact that she has to find a new place to live and then there's an old diary that is found that most definitely throws her for a loop. She has Huck to fall back on, but things get a little strained between them in Troubles in Paradise. I was rooting for them all along though!

Then there's Cash, who always seems to have some sort of difficulty in the previous novels, but seems to be getting his life together in Troubles in Paradise. He has a job, a new love interest, and a nice place to live. Also, readers can definitely expect more from Maia, who is quickly growing up, as well as Ayers who has some surprises in store for us. Baker's story was very enjoyable in this particular novel, mostly because I could relate to his struggles as a parent and trying to find his way in a new place. He wants to get back with Ayers, but is she over Mick? Is she ready for a committed relationship? Baker not only needs to find a new job, but also get his son set up in a new school and in a new house. So, things are definitely changing for the Steele family (and friends) in Troubles in Paradise. Expect more drama, more twists, and a major tropical storm to hit St. John; fans of the series won't be disappointed.

One aspect of the Paradise series that I love so much is the tropical setting of St. John. Hilderbrand has spent quite a lot of time here and it shows in Troubles in Paradise. She is able to bring the setting to life so well-- the exquisite meals, the restaurants, the sunsets, the beaches, and the people. I will definitely miss armchair traveling to St. John every fall now that this series has come to an end.

While I didn't love Troubles in Paradise as much as some of her other novels, I could count on the Paradise series to not only be a good escape, but also very entertaining with a few mysteries as well. If 2020 has you missing escaping to a beautiful Caribbean destination complete with sunshine, blue waters, and a warm breeze, look no further.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first two books in the trilogy. The story sucked me in with the drama and the passionate love affairs. But this one fell a bit flat for me. I felt that most of the story was repetitious from person to person where there could have been more plot to explore. The beginning of TROUBLES was great, and the ending was happy and somewhat satisfying. I just wish there had been more substance sandwiched in between.

Troubles in Paradise by Elin Hilderbrand is the final chapter in her Winter in Paradise trilogy.

This story follows a lot of different characters. While Irene is central to the story, there’s also a focus on her sons, Baker and Cash, her love interest Huck, etc. Most likely since I haven’t read the other two books in the series, it took me some time to figure out who all the characters are and how they’re related to one another. But once I got that, I feel the story moved quick with having so many different viewpoints.

I am curious what you all think about how this family decided to set their lives in St. John—especially after everything Russell had done. You would think they would want to stay far away from there. But then again, it’s probably hard to resist moving to somewhere like St. John and starting over.

I liked all the characters and thought they all were pretty engaging throughout the story. Funny enough, I felt the corruption/crime angle of Russell was the least interesting part. But again, coming in late to this, I was more interested in how the characters move on from that. Overall, I thought this was an entertaining read for a lazy day.

This is the final installment of the Paradise series. This series is much needed in our current climate, Hilderbrand provides an escape for us to the beautiful Virgin Islands. I would definitely recommend you read the other books in the series, or you might be a bit confused.

There were a lot of characters, but they are so different thats it easy to keep track of them. what I love the most is how she describes the beauty of St. John , now I'm definitely adding it to my bucket list. This book like the other are about relationships and family. We get to see the wrap up on some characters story and how they're finding their way. I would love to see in a few years a story of a grownup Maia in Nantucket . My favorite Elins book is still 28 Summer, but this is ok as well.

Troubles in Paradise by Elin Hilderbrand wraps up the trilogy of the Steele family who travel to St. John after the husband/father’s death only to find he had a secret life. Irene and her sons, Cash and Baker, have all returned to the island with the intent of living in Russ’ large villa. As part three opens, they find that the villa together with Irene’s Iowa home have been seized by the FBI. Homeless and jobless the three use their gumption and wits to eek out a new life while searching for the truth behind Russ’ murder. I enjoyed this book. I thought Hilderbrand did a good job of tying up loose ends in a relatively believable fashion. It would be an excellent beach read.

Troubles in Paradise was the perfect ending to this three-part series. A little bit of intrigue matched up with unexpected outcomes yields a great summer or weekend read! Thoroughly enjoyed it!!

I am so sad this series is over. I came to love all the characters and was so excited to read the final story to get some closure. I wish more had happened with the Russ storyline, but I’m glad Elin Hilderbrand included the hurricane. It was a good way to end the story.

Troubles in Paradise is the third and final book in Elin Hilderbrand's Paradise series. I definitely recommend reading the first two books in the series before picking this one up. However, the series as a whole is great and I think you could read through them fairly quickly!

In the first book, Irene a midwestern housewife learns that her husband Russ has died in a helicopter crash near St. John. When she travels to the island she learns that her husband had been living a double life, complete with a St. John's mansion, another woman, and a daughter named Maia. By the third book, Irene and her adult sons Cash and Baker have pretty much settled on St. John. We pick up right where we left off in book two with each character trying to find their place in their new home, and trying to uncover what really happened with Russ when his helicopter went down. The only thing I didn't love was the ending, everything gets wrapped up and then BAM she throws in a new plotline about a hurricane. It was definitely interesting, but I think it would have worked better as a separate novella because it seemed too long to be an epilogue.

This book is classic Elin: beautiful location, complicated characters, and tons of family drama. It is set over the holidays, but that doesn't really factor into the plot very much, so you could really read this at any time of year!

Huge thanks to Little, Brown and Company for the arc of Elin Hilderbrand’s Troubles in Paradise.

Elin Hilderbrand is one of my favorite authors. Every time I read a book by Elin I feel instantly comforted. Her writing is just phenomenal.

I devoured the first two books in the series. This one wasn’t any different. I couldn’t wait to find out what happened to the Steele family. When we left What Happens in Paradise, Irene chose to move to St. John to start fresh after learning even more devastating secrets about her husband. Her sons also decided to move to St. John hoping for new things including romance.

When we pick back up with the Steele family in Trouble in Paradise Irene has lost her home back in the States as well at the villa in St. John. The book doesn’t slow down after those reveals.

Many questions are answered and I was very satisfied with the ending. I am going to miss the Steele family. I grew very attached to the characters. Elin has such a wonderful way connecting to her characters. You will feel like you know them.

I can’t wait for her next one!

Elin Hilderbrand works her magic once again. If you’re looking for a place to start her Paradise series is the place to do so.

Is it just me or does it feel like every Elin Hilderbrand novel is starting to follow the same "formula" and recurring plot points. I was excited to read this book because of the locale being the US Virgin Islands and even after just feeling lukewarm about the previous two books in the trilogy, I couldn't NOT read the final book. I really felt like there was hardly anything that happened in this book and even the "climatic" hurricane - which was super predictable because it is a ripped from the headlines story - was very anticlimatic and I felt like there were SO many loose ends not tied up at the end of this book and that it ended pretty abruptly.

That said, the writing is great and I love Elin's descriptiveness throughout her novels. None of these are big brainy novels but if you're looking for light soap opera stuff to read on vacation or when you need a mental break this will fill the need.

The queen of transporting us to paradise in her books has done it again. Bringing us back to St. John for the last book in this series, Troubles in Paradise wraps up the secrets and lies surrounding the flawed but loyal Steele family we've come to know and love from Elin Hilderbrand.

I enjoyed this one - we got some of our unanswered questions resolved about the how and why behind Russell Steele's double life that took us on a trip to St. John. We got to see characters we had fallen for in the other two books in the series come to an ending we hoped for, BUT I did feel like this one was a bit drawn out & repetitive. It felt like the last quarter of the book was more exciting than the rest, would have loved for it to have been moved up in the timeline to make it different than the second book.

Overall I loved getting to return to some familiar characters, but it left me wanting a little more.
