I like short stories as an introduction to an author.
Here are a collection of 10 dark tales that will disturb and unsettle you. Not quite horror but certainly edging towards discomfort and shocking thrills. All have this unchangeable momentum that having started the story you no there is no redemption to be found. However the twist is often how characters play against each other and the victims are not always signposted or as imagined.

I like the writing style. The building of the story and the unexpected outcomes or endings. I think I’d like to move on to a longer story to pass complete judgement on the author.

Simply each individual short narrative is strong they lacked something beyond the enjoyment and thrills they bring. But none of them are completely memorable they were a passing entertainment but have not left any enduring effect. I have no lasting memory of them; I struggle to recount the stories or share any specific details that moved or scared me. Yet I know each gave me moments of pleasure and a passing feeling of being involved through reading them. This lack of engagement isn’t a lack of empathy for the characters but rather a general insouciance to the format and style.

Like I say I have no direct issue with the writing, only this disconnect now with the details of the works. Many will enjoy them and hopefully be able to expand their reasons better than I.

I am left pleased to have been introduced to a fresh author but a little confused why his words have not fully resonated with me.

I tried, I really tried. I'm A Gigolo is a composition of short stories. I made it through the 1st one, liked the twist. Then, it just got weird. It is a mix of romance, erotica, and horror. I could not finish the book.
