A rich old white lady is killed by a python at a golf resort in Palm Springs.
THAT is the sanist part of the book.
As with all Hiaasen's books ( and frankly anything in Florida) it all goes ass over teacup in the most insane way possible.
Migrants being called "terrorists" by the syphilitic baboon president.
Conspiracy nuts (more old rich white ladies) fueling the persecution of the migrant.
Deranged people ( also called Floridians) .
Just. Good Clean Fun.
Nah. Not chance.
It is deranged and warped in all the best ways.

Didn't capture my attention and engagement. I'll hopefully try again in the future. Didn't capture my attention and engagement. I'll hopefully try again in the future.

Kiki Pew, a Florida socialite and member of the President’s fan club disappears from a charity gala. Angie, a wildlife relocator, is then called out to the same location to remove one of the largest python she’s seen that has recently eaten something large. The president and media are sure that Kiki Pew was killed by an illegal immigrant gang, but Angie has another theory. She’s determined to prove it, but when the snake goes missing, it becomes more challenging.

This is supposed to be a hilarious mystery. Although I had a few chuckles, I didn’t find it hilarious, and wouldn’t even describe it as funny. Too many of the barbs were political for my taste, but there was also too much focus on body type, appearance, and being overweight. Angie is a great character, and her following the mystery aspect was fun. Her story was just too overshadowed by the rest.

This is by far Hiaasen's best work yet. Yes, I did LOL. I don't care which side of the political fracas you are on, this book is hilarious.

This was not a favorite. I think I have simply reached my Carl Hiassen limit. Too much of the same. Too many characters and too much outrageousness.

I love Carl Hiaasen's books - especially if they feature Skink. Squeeze Me was no exception. It was laugh-out-loud funny and so timely - definitely a much needed diversion during stressful times.

Hiaasen's thinly veiled fictionalizing of 2020's dumbest villain is quite the treat. The if-only comeuppance delivered in classic Hiaasen style to the full myriad cast of amoral wealth-hoarders is doubly so.

Hilarious thinly disguised portrait of Trump, Melania and assorted toadies. Laugh out loud funny. Conservatives need not read this.

What a fun read! Carl Hiaasen has the perfect skill and wit to weave an intriguing tale of a mysterious death, immigration, a large headless snake, a buffoon Commander in Chief of the US (sound like any president we know?) a gaudy group of clueless Presidential followers and create a perfect novel of suspense that is delightful to escape into!
Would love to see more of the main character Angie Armstrong in future books!
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for a preview of this title in exchange for an honest review!

The wait is always excruciating between Hiaasen's books - both adult and children's. When I get my hands on the newest book, I read as slow as I can to savor the story and make it last, but it never lasts quite long enough.

I was nervous about this one - I knew it would be overtly political, and I wasn't too keen on reading a political statement; I choose to read fiction to escape the media. I was relieved it wasn't over the top political digs. There was plenty of jest at #45, but it was fitting.

Angela, former wildlife officer turned into animal removal controller due to a pesky, yet justifiable, felony, has been called by local and federal government officials to wrangle a sudden invasion of massive pythons; massive enough to swallow a human. Which is exactly what happened - Kiki ("Kikey" to #45) Pew Fitzsimmons is a wealthy generous supporter of the President but disappears during a charity benefit. Angela is called to remove a giant python with a giant, human size lump in its middle, and is smart enough to realize what happened to Ms. Fitzsimmons. As Angela is attacked in order to be silenced, she and some allies (INCLUDING SKINK!!!) work to rescue the immigrant who is being lambasted by the Commander in Chief on social media and news outlets.

This was not my favorite Hiaasen book, but I still loved it. I love the sarcasm and irony, and description of the craziness that is Florida. If you are a Carl Hiaasen fan, there is no reason for you NOT to buy this book. (Also - did you get the part that SKINK was in it??!)

And now I impatiently wait for his next book.

Filled with political humor about #45, this quick read may be exactly what we need in 2020. This satirical crime novel reads as if originating from a Fox & Friends news story in which everything true is labeled as fake news while disinformation is believed by many regardless of its absurdity. For the most part, this book is over-the-top fun and quirky.

I will admit to being a little bothered by the Diego situation because it seemed to accurately depict the poor treatment of immigrants in the US. Overall,, the effect was necessary to truly demonstrate the lack of leadership by #45.

Highly recommend for some laugh-out-loud moments while also reminding us how essential it to to vote!

I thoroughly enjoyed Squeeze Me, a laugh-out-loud political satire with unforgettable characters, particularly the Potussies. It's a great read and provides much needed comic relief during this divided, polarized time in American politics. 4.5 stars.

This is a genuinely laugh-out-loud satire of President Trump and Palm Beach society, from a master of amusing mysteries. I’ve told every Trump-hater I know to read it. Laugher is a great disinfectant, as Hiassen shows - even better than hydrochloroquine.

Hiaasen never disappoints and his latest book will be sure to please. The author weaves in current events with a lot of humor to keep readers turning the pages.

Another hilarious return to Florida by Hiaasen! As usual, the hijinks are ridiculous and perfectly executed... well they were funny at least if not well done. Hiaasen knows how to keep his readers coming back for more silly fun in the land of wickedly weird creatures (and characters).

God bless Carl Hiassen. In these insane times, his hilarious crime fiction is singular and a balm for the troubled soul (mine). I don't know whether he whipped up this particular confection in the last few months or updated an existing manuscript and I don't care. Squeeze Me is technically a new Skink novel (and Hiassen fans will know what that means) but a host of both new and very familiar characters populate yet another crime story that could easily be subtitled Florida Man Becomes Leader of Free World. The book is a huge entertainment and a delight but my favorite thing about Hiassen, and it's on full display here, is his attention to detail--every tiny moment, every throw away description, every zing of dialog--that makes the ridiculous also sublime.

A very fun read right in sync with current events. The main character is a strong, fearless woman. The takes on the president are hilarious.

Another fun story from Carl Hiassen. Loved the parody on the POTUS and his wife. The characters were all a hoot even the pythons. I didn’t realize this continued with characters from a series but it didn’t matter as the story flowed.

I loved Squeeze Me, a satire set in Florida in and around the "Winter White House." I went into this book not knowing much about it, and I think it's much more fun to read that way, so I won't talk about the plot. What I will say is that this book was highly entertaining - I loved the heroine Angie, who is a wildlife removal expert and who gets tangled in politics after a wealthy widow goes missing. The one thing that took me out of this book was how sympathetic the novel's first lady is - no hint of Birther garbage here - but otherwise it was immersive and extremely hard to put down. I thought it might be rough to read a book about our current, uber stressful politics, , but this was a cathartic read. I've never read Carl HIaasen before, but will be on the look out for more of his books.

Squeeze Me is a wonderful satire involving snakes, local society and the President and first lady. In his unerring ability to amuse, Carl Hiaasen has not failed. A must read.
