Paige Tyler has done it again. The steamy wolf pack is back. This time we're focusing on Diego. In this we learn his origin story, meet Bree and her son Brandon. The story picks up after the last book in the series, but can be read as a standalone.

There are a series of rash robberies and pandemonium has gripped the city. It's up to Diego and the SWAT team to find the threat and take it down. In the midst of the action, there's a romance. How will it end? Will they find the threat in time? You'll have to read it to find out. It is a one sitting read.

Damn but I love these books. Are they classics of literature? No. But they're fun and they're easy and they're quick to read so I just keep reading them and they never disappoint.

Through NetGalley, I received a free copy of WOLF UNTAMED (Book 11 of the SWAT Paranormal Romance Series) by Paige Tyler in exchange for an honest review. The police, particularly SWAT, have been dealing with a series of unusual hostage situations. SWAT Officer and werewolf Diego Martinez is working as a hostage negotiator. During one of these standoffs, Diego meets a very attractive woman, Bree, and her teenage son, Brandon. Brandon is a recently turned werewolf, so Diego volunteers to mentor him until Brandon bonds with an alpha. Diego’s involvement leads him closer to the source of the unusual hostage situations.

I liked this book and enjoy the series. One of the best things about the series is that, after the main characters hookup, the storyline continues. I recommend this book to fans of supernatural romance featuring werewolves, magic, law enforcement, and mystery.

My latest read is Wolf Untamed, the next book in Paige Tyler’s Werewolf SWAT series, that releases November 24th.

As the latest installment in the SWAT series, we are continuing to meet more members of the team in clusters. I love that we get to root for a few of the guys at a time, and see who they are friends with in the pack. Which picnic tables they sit at during the (weekly?) barbecues. Who they do their after work snooping with. You get the picture.

I was thrilled to receive an Advanced Reader’s Copy of this book because I couldn’t wait to jump back into the Paige Tyler world. It was a nice escape for a few days, before I get back to my own writing for NaNoWriMo.

Plot
So, I’m just going to jump into this plot. The story opens up with an active shooter situation in a diner, and when the SWAT team comes to the rescue, they realize the teenage boy hostage is a very new werewolf, who is having trouble controlling himself in the situation. Diego uses his alpha voice to calm him down and then tells his mom, who smells really good, that maybe he should explain some things to them.

While Diego and Bree start to fall in love, and learn how to be a blended family, her ex husband continues to show up with increasingly erratic behavior. Threatening Diego’s life, promising Brandon they will be a family again, and all around creepy behavior.

THEN we learn that he went to jail for murder, of someone who was literally looking at his wife for too long...at his work Christmas party. While in jail, he became a cannibal. And when he got out of jail he stalked his ex wife, and planned some more really bad things (that I can't really share because major spoilers).

So there is a very stark contrast set up between Dave and Diego, the law enforcement officer.

I love that Diego and Brandon instantly bond over fangs and claws, and Fortnight. Which happens even before he and Bree fall in love. Brandon comes first to both of the adults.

Diego even noticed that there was a new werewolf BEFORE he noticed that the woman who smelled good.

While not just about the romance, this story also focuses on blended families, werewolf packs, and some of the weird and supernatural occurrences that come up, and sets the background for the next books.

Tropes
This story is 100% a Paranormal (Werewolf) Romance book, which includes these tropes:
Soul Mates
Crazy quick love
Law Enforcement/ Crime fighting: careers are compatible
Found Family

I wanted to share my favorite quote,
“He prayed one of them was a K9 team. What he wouldn’t give to be able to see in the dark like one of his four-legged coworkers. And being able to smell like a K9? Crap, that would be awesome.
He couldn’t see in the dark––or sniff out bad guys––and he never would.”

I love the irony, because this is the literal scene where he turns into a werewolf. Like, just you wait Diego.

This was an enjoyable story, with some new paranormal elements, where we get to see the hero, heroine and son grow to become a family and deal with an abusive ex. It may not have been my favorite in the series, but I loved watching Diego learn what it means to become an alpha and tuck Brandon under his paw for the werewolf situation, as well as his ordinary teenage problems of fitting in.

I can’t wait to pick up the next book in the series ASAP. If only because that heroine is named Samantha, and then she is going to collect on a favor that her soulmate promised her.

*Happy dance*

Bree is an investigator with an insurance company and she notices a string of robberies she can attribute to a friend of her ex-husband. Then while she and her son are having breakfast at a diner the place is taken over by a crazy man who holds them all hostage. Diego is the police negotiator who gets them out alive. But Diego is also a werewolf and he realizes her son is a beta werewolf and she is The One for him. Diego and his team investigate this hostage situation and a spree of others. Are Bree’s and Diego’s cases related? And can they come together and form a family while trying to solve the cases?
Diego is a hot and sexy character but is also multidimensional. The sweetest part of the story for me was that he accepted the responsibilities of being and alpha to Bree’s son and wanted to form a family of the three of them. This is not something often seen in a romance novel but it is a reality and struggle for so many of the readers of these novels. This is a good hook for recommending the book.
I would recommend this book to my patrons.

Wolf Untamed is a nice addition to the SWAT series, though it is not the best one in the series. It is pleasant, and if you've read one of the previous books, you know what you are in for with this latest offering. Both characters feel like nice enough people, though there isn't a lot of character growth throughout the book. It's a cute and enjoyable story, worth your time.

Bree is an insurance investigator, lives with her teenage son, and her sister. Bree and Brandon are held hostage in a diner. Diego is a werewolf and member of the SWAT team as the negotiator. He is sent in to he diner and immediately smells a beta werewolf. After Bree and Brandon are rescued, Diego explains to them what Brandon is going through. Bree takes it very well and she invites Diego over to have dinner with them. Diego believes Bree is THE ONE but won’t tell her. Something is going on with the people in the city. Diego and his pack start investigating and find out it’s tied to Bree’s ex husband. Can they figure out what’s going on before more people die?
Excellent story. Action and suspense. I was totally shocked and wished I hadn’t finished it so fast. I love these books and I believe this is my favorite so far.

Diego, Bree & Brandon

Diego has been the negotiator in many hostage situations. This one was different and too similar to some other crimes to ignore. Another difference is that he's distracted by one of the hostages. He finds more excuses to spend time with her until he realizes she just as attracted. Not only that he likes her teen son and the kid seems to like him too. The reason could just bind the three in a way they hadn't seen coming.

Bree's a smart, talented professional woman and a caring single mother. Some trouble makes her consult Diego for advice. Advice and so much more.

The story is action-filled, steamy, has plenty of surprises, and plenty of time with the members of his swat team. The romance is hot, complicated and one the reader has to cheer on. I'm a fan of the series and loved it can't wait for more.

4 stars

Lots of action, a smart leading lady, her newly turned teenage son, a mysteries to be solved and...werewolves!

This is a great addition to the SWAT: Special Wolf Alpha Team series by Paige Tyler. There’s action throughout mixed with romance. Both main characters, Diego and Bree, are smart, sensitive and caring. Bree is no shrinking violet and faces her job and other issues head-on. There’s action you would expect from the SWAT crew but also touching moments in helping Bree’s son Brandon assimilate to his new “normal”.

A great story to take you away from the issues of today and delve into a fantasyland!
