This is certain not realistic, but that's not what the author is going for and that's what makes it fun and unpredictable. Good stuff. I missed the previous in the series so I'll have to circle back. Recommended.

Thanks very much for the ARC for review!!

Not so much a sequel involving Zoey Ashe as it is the further adventures of Zoey Ashe. You need not have read the first book to get the full brunt of the novel and feel as if you've missed nothing. Interwoven oddities, weirdness, and moral outrage all neatly packaged in a zipping narrative. Since the John books have grown stale, this is an excellent resumption of storytelling. Recommended!

Zoey Punches the Future in the Dick by David Wong
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Let me just say that I'm STILL super impressed that this title ever got out of the gate.

As for everything else going on, this is very much a sequel but it's hardly needed to read the first book first. Crazy s**t happened. Zoey is way out of her depth. Still.

In fact, this novel goes completely off the deep end. Let's keep the humor running high, make sure our poor Zoey is now super freaking rich, inheriting all the ills of the rich, and feeling the total terror of rampaging human augments, gigantic farting kitties, and even more about futuristic suits.

What's the real issue tho?

Zoey is isolated like crazy and is starting to go crazy. It doesn't hurt that this totally nuts place in Ohio is a privatized anarchistic wonderland that has more in common with an anime than a rational city.

And that's what's awesome about this.

That, and the cat. Any of the cats. I'm all over this book. It's all about the cats.

It takes a lot of unusual social takes and maybe even takes an unpopular stance, but I have to grand the balls on this book. Or rather, where the focus goes. :)

Zoey does, indeed, punch the future in the dick. If you've never read the first Zoey book, go out and grab Futuristic Violence and Fancy Suits. These books are wild. I'd expect nothing less than a whole heap of crazy from a David Wong novel, and this didn't disappoint. Also, if you love his style, go snag John Dies at the End. It's so much fun.

Light science fiction read

I enjoyed this book. I did not read the first book, but David Wong wrote the second one in a way that I didn't really feel I missed any important parts of the story. There was good character development and backstories and lots of action. I enjoyed the humor and appreciated the banter between characters. Although I didn’t find the book laugh-out-loud funny, I did enjoy the lighter moments. I also enjoyed the social commentary. Overall, this is a good lighter book and is worth the read.
Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book via Netgalley for review purposes.

I have always enjoyed David Wong's books and that opinion hasn't changed. These books are always jam packed with absurd humor, but a lot of heart.

David Wong’s books have always made me both laugh and cringe at the absurdities of our culture, and Zoe Punches the Future in the Dick is no exception.

While set in the not-so-distant future, this book tackles topical issues like police brutality, cyber bullying, and the systemic wage gap. It pokes fun at incels and cannibals alike, all while featuring a giant farting cat robot. It is a truly a work of art.

This was everything I could have wanted in a sequel to Futuristic Violence and Fancy Suits, but like most of Wong’s books, it can also stand by itself just fine. I’m sure I will be sending this book to many of my friends as a Halloween present. I can’t get enough of Zoe, the Suits, Stench Machine, and the city of Tabula Ra$a.

Ok, I don't typically like the sci-fi genre, but I absolutely loved this book and that ending was completely unexpected! Actually a lot of it was unexpected to be honest.

I really enjoyed the dialogue between each of the characters. Also, side note, I didnt realize this was a sequel until I looked it up on Goodreads, but having not read the first I don't think it should matter if you read one without the other.

If you like books with intense action sequences, fighting, sarcasm, wit, humor and pretty serious matter then I'd recommend this to you.

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

4.5/5 - loved it.

Zoey Ashe returns in this sequel to Futuristic Violence and Fancy Suits. Zoey faces enemies from all sides in Tabula Ra$a, the city that makes Sin City look like a convent. Cannibalism, zombies, and giant cow-spiders, this fast-paced adventure has it all. Another hit from David Wong.
