I enjoyed this- it's an intriguing take on vampires and how they might take over. It has some zombie vibes too, so maybe that's why I've enjoyed it! The artwork is a nice complement to the story as well, adds a nice spook factor.

The illustrations in this graphic novel are spot on. It’s a violent blood mess about vampires wreaking havoc in the Empire State Building. I do wish there was a bit more storytelling. The reader learns that these vampires are a result of a native american vampire deity, but they never get an in depth idea of where they come from. Just a glossed over point of view about being locked up on the “highest mountain”. Overall this was an enjoyable read if someone is into blood and gore. The reader can see the Walking Dead influences, and those fans will love this book.

Terry Fisher, a young soldier about to be deployed overseas, is having a farewell party with his friends atop the Empire State Building. Suddenly, vampires appear and take over the tower and kill anyone in their path. Now Terry and his friends need to find a way to survive and get out.
The vampire outbreak starts pretty much right away. Once the friends gather the terror starts, and we are soon in the middle of horror survival. The comic gets you into the action right away. As we keep reading, the vampires are identified and we gradually get details on their backstory and lore. We do not get a lot of backstory, just enough to keep the story going.
The story is good overall though it feels a bit rushed at the end. While there is not much depth here, the story moves at a quick pace. I did find the lore of Native American vampires interesting. It is interesting to note that, unlike other horror stories where the authorities are fairly useless, this story takes place in post-9/11 New York City. Once they figure out the situation, they get whatever resources they need to deal with the vampires. These New Yorkers are not messing around. I found the story to be a quick and entertaining read, and the art suits it well with just enough gruesome elements. While this is a pretty light read, I think fans of the vampire horror genre will like it. Folks who like works like 30 Days of Night may like this one too. I liked it.

Didn't really care for this graphic novel. Vampires have been done so many times, in so many ways and this was nothing special.

The premise of this graphic novel sounded interesting. A secret room is unlocked in the Empire State building unleashing a vampire god and trapping everyone in the building. However the story fell flat. There were no characters to care about and no follow through on the story. There is very little dialogue or character development. More attention was made to the artwork which is good and wonderfully bloody. If you just want to look at horror filled pictures you may enjoy this, but if you are looking for a story look elsewhere.

Thank you to the publisher and to Netgalley for the advance copy of this book!
I have gotten into anime the past year and loving it but this book wasn't my favorite.. I loved the plot and storyline in the book but I feel like I just missed something that made it the best. . I enjoyed the characters in this story. I do recommend this book if you are not looking for anything deep.. The art work was very easy to read and follow along with. I will be looking for other works in the future from this author.

Vampires, or something like, take over the Empire State Building while a group of friends are saying goodbye to one of its members, who is going away with the army. The friends will have to try to survive before the vampires kill them and take over the city.
"Vampire State Building" has a simple set up, pretty clear to follow. Survival, vampires, action, and a closed environment. And it does a good job in putting things into place and introducing the characters. However, the 'bad ones' of the story are not so well developed and many of the developments are kind of rushed, with some moments given little to breathe. A little bit of more tension would have helped the story a lot. Probably the worst are the main characters, with 101 personalities and with the typical 'hero' in hero mode, telling people what to do and being bossy all around. It makes him not very relatable and annoying. The ending was also a little bit rushed, maybe because I was expecting the story to have more development or bigger stakes.
The art was quite well done, dark and helped to created the perfect mood for the story. The characters were well drawn, and the rooms and the outsides were really good too. The 'monster' was nothing particularly original, and some more work onto it could have been better. The action scenes too, were, in general, of quite good level, even though there were a couple of situations where it was difficult to follow the action, a bit messy.
It ends up being entertaining, but kind of pointless, as it doesn't offer anything new.

I was given a copy of this book for review.
The plotline was enjoyable but the art was too dark and made that part less than enjoyable. The font used was too small and made reading the story very difficult. I may give another issue a chance if changes are given.

Down and dirty action film premise: what would happen if an ancient vampire, entombed in the Empire State Building, should be accidentally released while construction workers are doing some rehab work? The answer isn't too far from Die Hard or The Towering Inferno, but with vampires added to the mix. This is a fun and fast-moving story. If anything, I might have liked to see just a bit more depth to this. The artwork is by Charlie Adlard of The Walking Dead and, for once, it's in full color.

Vampires are cool...as long as they are on your side obviously. This dark comic is a must have for older readers, and I am going to check the next volumes. Loved this.

This was a graphic novel about, as stated, vampires in the Empire State Building. The day starts out nice for Terry and his friends. They are there to say goodbye to him as he heads off to Afghanistan. The day turns bad when Cannibals/Vampires are now all swarming the building due to a construction event. The story is fast moving and I finished this in one sitting. The illustrations are very good and the story line, while a bit cheesy, was fun. Do not get to attached to the characters. As with TWD they will kill anyone.

The graphics in the novel were great. The creatures looked very authentic to most vampire types. The story is set in the Empire State Building. A group of friends have met up to have a farewell party for their friend who has decided to follow in his fathers footsteps and enlisted. His friends, especially his ex girlfriend don’t want him to go. While at the building an ancient vampire, who was lock in a vault, is awakened and his minions start killing and turning people. The group has to find a way to get out alive from the 53rd floor. With hostiles all around how will they survive?

I did not expect so much, take this book for the cover and the best I must say is the art and the selection of color, I loved it. It has good creatures, good development, my only problem was that when the girl was about to die, she insisted and insisted on asking the boy if he broke up with her because there was someone else.

Publisher’s blurb: The newest horror series from the artist of The Walking Dead! Get ready to be bitten from the first full-color page... Terry Fisher is a young soldier on the verge of being sent away for active military duty and is going to meet his friends at the top of the Empire State Building for a farewell party. But suddenly a legion of vampires attacks the skyscraper and massacres its occupants. Hounded in the 102 floors that have become a deadly trap,I received this book free from Diamond Book Distributors, and Netgalley for my honest, unbiased review.
Now I love a horror comics. I grew up reading them but if there are two tropes I’m sooooo tired of, it's zombies and Vampires. How many ways can you make a comic or a novel about these subjects, and even make them a tiny bit different than the other two hundred you’ve read? You don’t. You just pretend it’s different.
The Vampires in this comic, as I’m sure you already figured out, do not follow the traditional vampire rules. They get bitten, or in a few case just eviscerated or neck snapped and boom….more vampires. No waiting for the host to change, no sucking blood, they act like zombies who just happen to have really sharp teeth.
Why are they in the Empire State Building and how is it in over 100 years no one noticed the hidden room in which they slept? Who knows.
Anyway, it was gory and bloody, good enough reason to read for many, but if you’re looking for a good story move along, nothing to see here.
This is a cross between Del Toro’s “The Strain” and Ange’s “The Walking Dead.”
I pass. Thanks but Nah.

Really great illustrations! There wasn't much character development so I didn't really care if something sad happened. I will say that the vampires seemed more like zombie monsters but maybe that's because I was just thinking of the walking dead since it's the same illustrator? Or I just need to be more open minded of how vampires can also be portrayed. Overall, I liked this but wanted more from the characters.

2.5 stars
There was some really good vampire gore in this, which I love, but not really any character development and the story itself was lacking. I couldn’t really connect to anything that was going on. I came out of this enjoying and appreciating the art work but would only recommend for that.

Vampire State Building is pretty much exactly what you would expect it to be from the title. I really enjoyed the art and the story concept but, as others have noted, the characters really lack depth. I understand graphic novels are typically shorter, but I felt this story could have been expanded on. Overall, if you enjoy this genre, you will likely enjoy this.

This graphic novel was okay. The artwork was really well done, but the characters and plot felt quite flat. It didn't really suck me in (pun intended).

Vampire State Building is a nice vampire comic, reminiscent of 30 Days of Night and The Strain, but really missing characters to latch onto. The premise of the comic is interesting yet I feel that the either the antagonist or the protagonists could have had more outstanding presence. The art is great and personally I like the character design for the main vampire.

As the title suggests, this is the type of story you don't take too seriously. It was fast-paced and a fun, short read, but there wasn't anything too memorable. The only thing that really sets it apart is that the "vampires" in the story act more like mindless zombies. I didn't find any of the characters to be interesting or fleshed out, nor did I care whether or not they survived until the end. I did, however, really enjoy the art style and the use of color. If you really liked The Walking Dead graphic novels, you might like this one too! Artist Charlie Adlard is the illustrator for both.
If you're planning on reading Vampire State Building, don't expect anything too new or exciting. If you're looking for something quick and easy to flip through, you might like it. I love vampires, zombies, and anything apocalyptic, so it was somewhat enjoyable despite the lack of substance. It's very plot driven, and there's also a good amount of gore if that's what you're into.
