This was just not for me. It is definitely for fans of the Walking Dead and other running and screaming comics. The artwork is good and the story is suitably nerve wracking but you need to be a fan of vampires to really enjoy this.
A high-octane vampire / zombie story. The Empire State Building becomes a trap for a cast of characters to battle their way out. Quick, blood bath.
Terry Fisher's friends have a small farewell party for him at the top of the Empire State Building. Meanwhile, a vampire god has been discovered behind the walls which starts the attack of the vampires! Terry and his friends must find a way to save themselves, but how will they find a way out?
I wanted to read Vampire State Building because it had the same artist as The Walking Dead which I loved! The art did not disappoint, and I loved how the artist portrayed the vampire god. The story is super fast paced, and I flew through it in one sitting! Everything wrapped up fairly quickly, and I do think it would've been nice if they had gone into more detail about the origin of the vampires, but other than that I really enjoyed it!
A super fun read that fans of The Walking Dead will enjoy!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the e-arc!
An interesting and action packed story about the what happens when a building is suddenly flooded by blood thirsty vampires and the fight for survival. The story was interesting and I found that the situations that the characters found themselves in to be intense. Overall an interesting and action packed story.
I was provided with an advance copy of this graphic novel through Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.
I would describe the premise of Vampire State Building as Die Hard with vampires instead of terrorists. I requested an advance copy of this book because it matched up extremely well with my reading interests and I wasn’t disappointed.
This is a fast-paced book that tells the story of the Empire State Building comes under attack by vampires. One of the best things about it was the artwork by Charlie Adlard – I was already familiar with his work from The Walking Dead comics, so it was very comfortable for me in a visual sense. The individual characters were drawn with recognizable characteristics, which made it easy to keep track of when the action kicked into overdrive.
I gave Vampire State Building five stars. The premise was great, and I loved the rapid pace. Once I started reading, I didn’t want to put it down.
This is an okay book. Although there are a number of interesting elements, it lacked depth. The characters are flat and the story is dry. The hero needed to be larger than life; this needed to be Die Hard with vampires.
“They've turned the Empire State Building into a—no...it can’t be...a giant pantry? And we're the meals." —from the epic graphic novel, Vampire State Building.
During a remodeling, a mysterious hidden room with a locked iron door is found behind the walls of the Empire State Building. After opening the room, a large group calling themselves The Hamatsa escape and begin a murderous rampage. Meanwhile, the NYPD use force against the group assuming they are standard terrorists. They are dead wrong!
I’m not too sure about the political correctness of a vengeful Native American god hungry for blood. However, if you can get past that, the plot is original and very good. The artwork, especially the coloring, is great too. The god himself is simply awesome.
If you are a horror fan, you shouldn’t miss Vampire State Building. 4 stars!
Thanks to Ablaze, Diamond Book Distributors and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review.
Obviously, this stylistically reminded me a lot of Walking Dead seeing as both had the same illustrator Charlie Adlard. Not my favorite linework, kinda old-timey feel to it, but at least it's clear what's going on in all panels. I'm not sure if I liked this. It was OK, led me to looking up the myths this was based on, which was an interesting read, but overall it was pretty predictable. I wasn't invested in any of the characters or their relationships, so this was pretty much a bust for me.
Vampire Estate Building's artwork and flow are quite good, but the plot, which could have been a fun action-horror story, is marred by deeply problematic racial themes.
Two stars mostly because of the art: the artist is really good, the colorist has done some fascinating stuff with weather effects, and the alternate covers, compiled at the back of the volume, are wonderful examples of conceptual horror.
this is a very good graphic novel about vampires from the creator of The walking Dead so that tells you right there that it is really really good.I love the art style and I love the story it shows vampires in their natural scary view.
This was a pretty exciting graphic novel to read. The story begins simple enough, but once an ancient evil returns, things get real intense. No one is sure what is going on at first, and once they get some answers it only raises more questions. Once a drastic plan gets moved forward, a few people must get away from this building fast. As this story comes to a close, they find a way to save the city from a deadly creature. This might not be a graphic novel for everyone, but fans of horror should enjoy it.
I don't have very many good things to say about this one. It is a simple story that is told in a straightforward way. The art is good, except for the fact that the main character looks like he's 40 when he's supposed to be 20. I found most of the characters to be completely one note which means that I wasn't invested in what happened to any of them. The idea of these vampires/cannibals being connected to Indigenous culture is a pretty insulting storyline. It comes off pretty racist to connect that culture with evil and it adds nothing to the story. I won't remember this one.
I received Vampire State Building through netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
As soon as I saw the creative team for Vampire State Building I knew I had to read it! I was a huge fan of The Walking Dead comics and this did not disappoint. VSB is a fast paced action packed volume that I could not put down and read in one sitting!
The story starts fast and does not slow down, the ending did feel a bit rushed but it wrapped up nicely and left its self open for more if they want to further explore but the ending also felt solid enough that if this is the end I would be fine with it.
Even though this is fairly short you connect pretty well with the character's and I did find myself rooting for the main characters through the story.
I really loved the art work it was clean and eye catching and definitely fit the story well, but then I didn't expect anything less.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is a fan of The Walking Dead, Vampires, or action packed comics!

2.5/5 (3*)
I choose to read this graphic novel because I wanna try something with TWD vibes, and I'm not disappointed about the art in general. However, I had a problem with the story. All the colors, the character design and the illustrations of the Empire State Building are great. That's the best.
But the plot was not surprising at all, and the characterization was boring as well. We know Terry who's the typical main character who has the ability to save everyone, and his ex girlfriend Mary who cries a lot. Like a LOT.
In conclusion, I would like to read another type of character. They had a lack of personality and If they died at the end, I wouldn't mind.
Wow!!! This was a RIDE! Gripping and exciting from the first page, you can't really put it down! Such a fantastic story, perfectly matching the style of the book. If you are looking for something to read after "The Walking Dead", definitely pick this one up!!
Still unable to download this all the way and it makes me so upset! From what I’ve been able to see of it though, the artwork is beautiful and the story is great! It was creepy and a good vampire story!
Terry Fisher is meeting his friends on the deck of the State Empire Biding for a farewell party. He is a soldier who will be going off to his first assignment overseas. He didn’t want a party just a beer with his friends. Meanwhile a secret room has been discovered. When the door is opened the man is surprised by what he finds. Suddenly there are all these creatures/warriors falling out of this secret room and they are attacking the people. Blood is everywhere. Why are they killing the people? It looks as f they are drinking their blood. Why? As people try to flee, they don’t, they are caught and then dead. Suddenly, the dead are alive and going after the few people that are still alive. They are doing what their vampire god is telling his warriors what to do. Police have been called including a swat team. The swat team tells their supervisors bullets don’t harm them, but fire does. How will they burn them all? Will anyone survive the fire?
A different vampire story as a linguist is brought into the story early to understand the language being spoken. The architect does his best to help the police explaining how the building was made. It is a story with surprising elements that I didn’t quite expect. The colored illustrations are expertly done. It’s a great Horror storyline!
Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity read and review this book. While the ghouls are appropriately nasty, the artwork is not over the top and unviewable. The story is simple and uncluttered. A perceived weakness is the explanation for how the vampires were in the Empire State Building for so long and un-noticed. The last part of the novel has rejected art work that is sometimes interesting and sometimes childish. A fun read.
I really enjoyed what I read, I fortunately I was only able to read 2 chapters. I am stoked for more already, the artwork is a little sketchy for what I was expectibff but it has an awesome old school vibe which i enjoy. I would sincerely love to read more of this! I wont be posting a full review as I was not able to read it all due to missing 2 chapters but what I read I loved!
2.5 out of 5 stars
The title has a humoristic undertone which I really liked. When I read the description of the first volume, I was interested in the story. It gave me 'the walking dead' vibes, but with a vampire twist. It sounded very promising and unique.
The artwork is beautiful, but the chosen font is harsh to read. I personally don't like the regular comic font and prefer the ones with a font that is more clear. Some drawings were also a bit too busy, which made that it wasn't as scary as it could be.
Overall, the plot was okay. I found it a bit boring and not as unique as I thought before reading. It all felt very rushed, and the story was flat because of it. Same for the characters.
It was okay, but not great.
