I received an e-arc of this book in exchange for an honest review. Unfortunately, I was unable to download the book and am therefore unable to give a full review. That being said, if the book is anything like I Heart Recipes I have no doubt that it will be amazing! Mayes offers easy-to-follow, delicious recipes that remind me of growing up in Georgia. The photos of each recipe are real and feel attainable when you're trying out a new recipe. Mayes has consistently been fun, relatable, and friendly and I cannot wait to grab this book on October 27, 2020.

This book was received as an ARC from Sasquatch Books in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

All of the recipes in this book looked so warm, comforting, and delicious that I can not wait to make a lot of them such as the pecan cinnamon rolls, shrimp and grits with andouille sausage and collard greens with sweet potato biscuits. I know our cooking demos will be raving with reviews if we do this book. I wish tasty vision existed so I can get a taste of every recipe.

We will consider adding this title to our Cookbook collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.

Ok, so after going through this cookbook I have my cheat day, weekend or probably cheat month planned with all the great recipes in this cookbook. Banana nut pancakes, shrimp sliders, clam shrimp& crab chowder, crab and lobster grilled cheese, pulled pork, red beans and rice, creole lasagne, crab shrimp and lobster pot pie, pralines, and sweet tea are a few of the recipes I want to make. One of the better cookbooks I have looked at.

This book has so many feel good recipes. Some of classic southern favorites and some are new creations using staple foods. I'm trying to not eat as much currently so I'm staying away from some of these foods but I like the different twists Rosie Mayes took with these recipes. I can see many of these recipes being something to treat yourself to once a month.

OMG,, OMG, OMG!!!!! I cannot wait to try numerous recipes from this book. The recipes are very straight forward and seem easy to follow. I love how the author gives tips about different herbs, measuring cups, etc. and the recipes!!!! Soooooo good. Yes, I will be making some of these, no a lot of these recipes. And I will just deal with any pounds I gain lol. Thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for the arc of this book in return for my honest review. Receiving the book in this manner had no bearing on this review.

One thing entered my mind upon the first glance at this book.

But my fat butt went to the doctor recently and my cholesterol is up so I have to stay on my damn twigs and leaves diet. I'm for sure wanting to add this beautiful cookbook to my collection for when I can eat all the stuff.

I'll torture you guys with a look at some of the yummies presented in this book.

Collard greens

Seafood stuffed peppers

Tomato pie

Pineapple upside down cake cheesecake

Heck I may end up eating some of these things because I don't know if I can resist. This book is sourthern cooking at it's finest.

Booksource: Netgalley in exchange for review.

5⭐️

This is an absolutely beautiful cookbook! I was so thrilled when I was granted a copy of it! There are so many great recipes! And I love some of the PNW twists she puts on some of the classics, such as the Crab Deviled Eggs with Bacon. Which I appreciate the most is how approachable this soul food cookbook is! There is even a menu section in the back for things to make for picnics, brunch, tailgates, etc.

I love this cookbook so much, I think I going to need to have a hard copy so that I can had it in my kitchen library. Also, more than a few friends can expect to receive this in the future (housewarming/birthday/Christmas)! This is a new favorite and already a go-to cookbook!

These recipes are incredible. The photos are bright, beautiful and allow Mayes’ recipes to shine. It’s rare to find a cookbook that really delves into a way of life. There is soul food recipes from morning to night even drinks included. The ebook exudes warmth from her intro and story of how soul food became part of her life from an early age and blossomed into a career.

Highly recommend this book to anyone looking to add delicious recipes to their collection.

Thank you NetGalley and the publishing company for granting my wish to request this eARC.

I Heart Soul Food
Rosie Mayes
August 22, 2020

In this beautiful cookbook, Rosie Mayes shares her “soul food” recipes and secrets to cooking the mouthwatering dishes. Ribs, cornbread, hush puppies, mashed potatoes - comfort food for after-church luncheons, company suppers, and family celebrations. A great majority of the featured dishes are calorie heavy - loaded with cream, bacon, and buttermilk. Aside from a delicious salmon dish and pinto bean creations, you won’t find many healthy choices in this book. But who’s counting calories when whipping up Rosie’s luscious pralines and lemon bars?!

What a beautiful cookbook! Soul food made with a southern comfort feel. All the best recipes from macaroni and cheese, to Po’boys, to some delicious Cajun Gumbo. All here... with some gorgeous pictures that will make your mouth water.

What did I like? Most every recipe has a picture... so I got to look at some delicious looking food. Mainstays like pancakes, waffles, and French toast for breakfast but also some more showy recipes with sausage and salmon. Let’s not forget shrimp and grits... I was blown away. To side dishes, and then main courses....desserts...drinks... such a wonderful book with some show stopping recipes. Fried chicken anyone?

Would I buy or recommend? I would LOVE a print copy... this book is gorgeous! These recipes would have to be a treat for me because this is calorie laden food. If you love soul food then this is a gorgeous book! With some really great southern favorites you just can’t go wrong.

I received a complimentary copy to read. Five stars.. gorgeous recipe book!

Thanks to NetGalley and Sasquatch Books for an ARC.

This is an absolutely gorgeous cookbook. Leafing through the book, there are so many dishes that look appetizing.

Though the author is not from the South, many of her recipes are similar to the ones I grew up with. I loved the paragraph or two with each recipe providing background on why the recipe is in her repertoire.

I regret not taking notes about the favorite dishes my mother made. I can picture her hands mixing dough or battering fish. I think I’ll be able to recapture some of those memories with these dishes and am looking forward to trying out these recipes for my family in the near future.

Rosie Mayes' I Heart Soul Food is a mouth-watering trip down memory lane to the kitchens of my childhood. My parents, aunts, uncles, cousins and the rest of the family would crowd into one or another's kitchen to share a repast that was filling not only to the body, but the spirit. The recipes Mayes includes are not all familiar--just as there is regional Italian, Indian, and/or Chinese food--there is also regional Soul food. Many of the new (to me) dishes look even more enticing than the old favorites. I believe this title will engage many who, like me, are longtime revelers in such fare, and will most certainly have those who are new to soul food surrendering their hearts (and taste buds) to Mayes. Recipes are straight forward and easy to follow for the accomplished cook and the novice. Photos of the completed dishes (beauty shots) are tantalizing. Well done.

I've been following Rosie for years now, on both her blog and YouTube channel. When I saw that she has a forthcoming cookbook, I was thrilled for me and for her!
I have gotten my cooking life together, thanks to Rosie. I've learned to make yeast rolls, smothered chicken, the list goes on. I Heart Recipes lovers will get the same with this cookbook, more soul food recipes and more Rosie! I enjoyed this cookbook. The recipes and accompanied pictures are great. I can't wait to try the Seafood Macaroni Salad, but really, all of them that I haven't tried before. I recommend it to anyone who is looking to learn how to cook or try different recipes.

I am in southern cooking heaven and my giddy aunt I want to stay there forever. There are not a lot of great places for amazing American Southern cooking in Australia and this brings a little bit of it into my home. I need all the corn break I need all the grits and I NEED GUMBO!

I received an ARC of this title from Netgalley in return for my honest opinion.
