This had the elements of what sounded like a good story. The synopsis sounded so good, and I've seen some good reviews of this book. I will say I could not get into this story unfortunately. I started and stopped it giving it at least three tries.

I was given a complimentary copy of this book.
All opinions expressed are my own.

The description sounded like the perfect book for me but I just could not connect to the characters and there was too much description of the setting for me to get into it

I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook. The cover is really pretty. A great historical fiction book.

Did not finish. Unfortunately this time period did not entice me as I thought it would. I thought the writing was good but the plot was not enough to prompt me to keep going.

The premise of this one sounded great, however I was unable to connect with the characters and the plot was not set up for me as well as I would have liked. I knew about the Vanderbilts obviously but wanted more from the other characters. It was also jumping around too much for me to follow and as such this one didn't resonate with me like I had hoped.

Thank you to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for the digital copy to review.

Can’t wait for Season 2 of The Gilded Age? Loved Anderson Cooper’s in depth look at his family in Vanderbilt? Then begin this lush story which brings you more! You feel as if you’ve stepped back in time and into The Biltmore Estate. I could relate to the character Kerry Mcgregor’s sadness over the changing landscape of her beloved Blue Ridge Mountains due to the vast wealth which arrived and then dominated. Along California’s coast I have observed and felt much the same…

I apologize but I was not able to finish this book. I was in a different headspace at the time of requesting / recieving this book and the time I got it.

1.5 stars rounded up. I'm so sad I didn't love this one. I knew from the beginning and the info dump that this was going to be a struggle for me. It might have been the writing style just not being for me or that I struggled to keep it all straight since I didn't feel pulled in. Either way, this one just didn't work for me.

A huge thank you to the author and publisher for providing an e-ARC via Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion regarding the book.

I requested Under a Gilded Moon because my book club chose to read about the Biltmore Estate and the Vanderbilt family as our #nonfictionNovember focus and I needed some fiction to balance that out. The writing was beautiful and really well done, but I am reminded once again that I am not a super fan of historical fiction. I struggled to connect with the characters and plot of this book, but I recommended the title to the other ladies in my book club and they all have (or want to) read it and seem to have enjoyed it.

Thank you to the author and publisher for the privilege of access to this ARC of Under A Gilded Moon by Joy Jordan-Lake.

An interesting perspective on life in North Carolina before Biltmore was completed. A tale of how new innovations and progress aren’t always seen that way by those it affects the most.

I enjoyed reading this. Kerry’s reluctance to return home made so much sense to anyone who has left their birthplace for greater opportunities. Her sense of obligation and ability to swallow her pride to help her family kept me wondering how she would fare. In many ways, it’s difficult to understand the sense of determination and spirit one needed to live in the mountains, but this did a great job of illustrating those qualities.

I had such high hopes for this book, but sadly they were not met. The premise seems amazing, but the follow through was not great in my opinion. I could have finished reading it, but there are so many other things out there that I didn’t feel that I needed to feel loyal to a book I wasn’t enjoying.

I love #historicalfiction that causes me to do my own research. Set in North Carolina in the land surrounding the #biltmoreestate I found myself wanting to visit the castle and area ASAP. Set in the period when George Vanderbilt was finishing the estate, the novel focuses on the tension between the locals and the new arrivals to the region. There are almost too many characters to keep track of, and the story is told from too many points of view, but still a good ⭐️⭐️⭐️ novel for those who enjoy their historical fiction with a bit of #romance and #murdermystery. 📚📚📚 #amazonfirstreads #netgalley #netgalleyreads #netgalleyreview #amazonkindle #bookstagram

Living in North Carolina, I love visiting the Blue Ridge Mountains and seeing the gorgeous Biltmore Estate. When
I saw that this book was set there, I knew I had to read it! I really enjoyed all of the different characters and getting a glimpse of when the Biltmore was being built and opened. I was pleasantly surprised by the murder mystery aspect as well. I received a free copy of this book from netgalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

I am a huge historical fiction fan and was excited to dive into this book because it was a period in history I don't know much about. It was hard for me to really understand what was going on at the beginning and it felt a little slow to me. It didn't capture my attention as I was hoping. It was still great to get a glimpse into this world! Thank you, NetGalley!

This book has a number of stellar reviews so take mine with a grain of salt.

I found the book to be disjointed and choppy, to the degree where I was not able to get involved in the story - what's going on now? Who is doing what? I found myself going back a page or two to see if I had missed something (I hadn't); this did little to add to any enjoyment I found in the story. I wanted to like this, but found myself thinking longingly of the laundry I needed to fold, and the cookies I wanted to bake. This was an unfortunate DNF for me.

I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review. Thanks to Joy Jordan-Lake, Lake Union Publishing, and NetGalley.

I wanted to love this one because the tagline was Crawdads meets the Crawleys. Because I loved Downton Abbey and Crawdads was good. But I hated this book, I think it was mostly because I couldn’t stand the characters. And normally a good setting and plot can save a book for me. But not in this case.
