I missed this book the first time around and was thrilled to see it here on Netgalley. I love fairy tale remixes, and this screamed Beauty and the Beast to me. I wasn't wrong, and I'll be recommending it to the teens in our book club.

I love the new of this book! I can’t wait to buy the whole series with the new artwork.

I always enjoy beauty and the beast retelling, so I’m not surprised that I liked this one. Plus, Sarah J. Maas is great at writing books that pull you into its world. This particular world has humans and the fae living separately, due to the fae previously owning the humans as slaves. Currently there is a wall that keeps the human and fae worlds apart. The plot of the book begins when the heroine of the story, Feyre is taken across the wall by the ‘beast.’

I did notice a view continuity errors as a read though. Spoilers are below.

If Rhys is a high lord why was he at Tam’s fire night, instead of at his own ceremony? It specifically said that all high lords participate in fire night.

If everyone knows Feyre can’t read, why did she tell her family that she read to her aunt daily? I don’t believe that her family didn’t know she was illiterate.

Feyre realized that Tam’s heart was stone, and that she had never felt it beat. Then she wakes up and almost immediately listens to his heart beat... and hears it?

Feyre agreed to visit Rhys for one week a month until she died.... which she did. Why is she still held to that agreement?

The answer to the riddle was pretty clearly love.

Good heavens is this a fantastic fantasy book! Once you start it is so hard to put down. It captures your attention from start finish with an amazing magical world, mystery, and a great cast of characters. Feyre is someone I can really get behind and I love how unapologetically fierce she is in this Beauty and the Beast retelling.

This series has got to be one of my all-time favorite books. A lot of people may not like A Court of Thorns of Roses but I have really fallen in love with everything about this book. It had a really strong beginning and seeing Prythian through Feyre's eyes made me feel like I was discovering everything with her.

A Court of Thorns and Roses has EVERYTHING I love: fae and their wonderful courts, masked hot guys, manors surrounded by luscious gardens, curses over the land, and quests to save a loved one.

Sarah J Maas is and will always remain MY QUEEN. She writes the best characters ever and Feyre, Tamlin, Lucien, Rhysand, and Amarantha aren't an exception.

Now that is how you write a fantasy. Wow. The best way I can explain this book is Beauty and the Beast meets fairies. Magical and mystical. In some ways the story is predictable (it is a spin off of Beauty and the Beast after all) but in other ways its one of the most creative and unpredictable stories I have ever read.

“I love you.....Thorns and all.”

Title: A Court of Thorns and Roses
Author: Sarah J. Maas
Pub. Date: June 2, 2020 (reprint)
Rating: 4.5

Sarah J Maas weaves a story that you cannot put down and leaves you desperate for more. Her take on the classic Beauty and the Beast doesn't disappoint in the slightest.
If for whatever reason you haven't yet picked up this first book, then you need to, right away. Fall in love with Rhysand and Feyre, find out how Tamlin enters her life - you don't want to miss it. This book is amazing and addicting and only the start of a pretty stellar series!

I love this story so much!! This is such a fun, exciting Beauty and the Beast retelling. I not only love the plot, but the imagery of this series. It's such a dark, beautiful fantasy and I cannot wait to read book 2! I'm not sure how I feel about the cover changes, but I think it reflects the darkness behind the series and the relationship between Feyre and Tamlin. Such a great book!

This is such an amazing story and I love this Beauty and the Beast retelling. I love this series so much and I think people will be inspired by Feyre's journey not only in this story, but in this series. The look at Stockholm syndrome is so unique and honest - it really shows a light on relationships and what is or is not healthy. Such an amazing book.

Ugh, I love this book - this whole series. I'm a Sarah J. Maas fan and honestly, this book doesn't disappoint.
It's a 'sit down and read it in one sitting' kind of book - and I've definitely done that multiples times. This book pulls you in instantly, and you're sucked into Feyre's world. It's dark, magical...dangerous and wholly addicting. You fall in love with the cast of characters and you sit on the edge of your seat at the high stakes. You feel so much for these characters, you fall for them, fully believing in them.

I thought I would try this reinterpretation of Beauty and the Beast since so many love it passionately, I read up until I got to 15% before I gave up. It turns out it really wasn’t my thing but I get why it thought so highly by others, Many thanks for the copy.

My first book by this author as I thought she only wrote YA stories and I'm quite pleasantly surprised with this book that to me is more suited to those who seek NA stories. It's the first of a trilogy involving the fae whilst mixing in a well loved fairy tale. It's a fantasy with the typical plucky heroine and of course there's a big bad beast but sometimes it's hard to tell who really is the hero and who the enemy!
Feyre has had a shoddy start in life. Her mother is dead , her father is impoverished and her two sisters wallow in their own selfish needs. Feyre won't give up though and has taught herself to hunt so that even in the depths of winter they can still eat. Things go badly wrong though when whilst stalking a deer a large wolf appears and Feyre ends up ending its life. Unaware that the wolf was a shape changed faerie from Prythian Feyre sells its pelt but a very angry High Fae tracks her down. The beastly fae demands restitution and its her life in exchange for the dead faerie. Prepared to die Feyre is instead whisked to the Spring court where magic and monsters exist. Confused by everything Feyre seeks answers only to discover a blight that effects the fae in Prythian is set to cross into the mortal world.
Hmm this is not an easy review . I felt the beginning a little slow and wanted more interaction , more dialogue and far less navel gazing. I do understand the author wanted her readers to be one hundred percent behind Feyre but I just struggled. Let me say straight away her family were appalling and I didnt buy into the author later on trying to redeem them because hey some people are just bad ! I was about two thirds through the book and still had no idea how the plot would play out because as a reader I learnt exactly what Feyre did about her captor Tamlin and boy is that male cagey! Yet he never sought to hurt Feyre only look after her and Stockholm syndrome alert, Feyre and Tamlin clearly became very much entangled in each other. Yet this is the Spring court and not paradise so buckle up because when secrets get revealed its one hell of a ride!
Wow what a world this author has created with her words. Characters that leap off the page in glorious detail. No one is perfect (hooray) and yet as their motives are revealed it gets even more entangled . I see the beauty and the beast aspect but the game has been raised with the addition of the nefarious fae. I liked Feyre with her open heart and dry sense of humour but her courage blew me away. I would state here that Feyre isn't superwoman, she isn't unbeatable but she is tenacious and cunning. The last third of the book opens up the way for this trilogy to continue as we learn so much more about the rest of the courts. I will state there is some sex here but it doesn't dominate the story . My final thoughts are it does have romance but it was the journey that sucked me in. I really cannot say more as I'd hate to ruin it for others .
Four and a half from me

This book was absolutely outstanding. Not only is it a retelling of Beauty and the Beast (one of my favorite Disney movies), but is incorporates faeries in a way that I didn't actually hate. Usually fairies/fae stories are unreadable for me, but Maas was able to keep me interested.

Though I was worried about Feyre being a bland protagonist (which she definitely is in the first few chapters), she definitely defied my expectations and became a really interesting heroine. She is a hero in her own right, with her own convictions, and is driven by love for those closest to her, even though they don't always deserve her sacrifices.

Though the relationship between her and Tamlin seemed a little rushed, and definitely one sided at times, it nevertheless had its swoon-worthy moments. However, the real star of the book for me was Lucien. The way that he gradually develops an almost-friendship with Feyre was the most engaging aspect of the book.

I'm hoping that there won't be a love triangle between Feyre, Tamlin, and Rhysand. This is my first book by Maas, and from what I've heard of her Throne of Glass series, she doesn't shy away from love triangles/hexagons, which worries me. I don't feel anything towards Rhysand expect annoyance at this time. Though that can change, depending on where the author takes the series.

Thank you to NetGalley, Sarah J. Maas, and Bloomsbury for sending me the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is definitely one of my favorite YA series in recent years. The story, the characters, the writing - all come together beautifully to produce an amazing tale. Absolutely enjoy everything I've read so far by Sarah Maas and always look forward to reading more. Highly recommend this series.

Eight years ago Fate turned its back on nineteen-year-old Feyre, her two older sisters, and her lame father. Keeping them fed becomes Feyre's responsibility, which she teaches herself to fulfill through trial, error, and some fickle luck. They're living on the edge in more ways than one. There's an invisible wall that separates the seven territories of the High Fae from the Mortal Lands and the Faerie Realms, but power-mad forces plot to undermine the centuries-old treaty designed to keep peace between them. A dangerous encounter between Feyre and a beast leads to a cascading series of consequences that redirect the course of Feyre's and her family's lives.

A Court of Thorns and Roses enchants readers from the first chapter. Feyre's indefatigable mental and physical stamina combined with her curiosity despite her pessimism and personal insecurities make her narrative voice compelling. Magical beasts, a curse, heroic sacrifices, a past race war on the verge of reigniting, and political factions competing for allies examine themes of tyranny, subjugation, and their cumulative momentum in chipping away at the ethical cornerstones of civilization. It's possible for readers who are sensitive to scenes of drug-induced compliance even when it's not sexual to skim or skip those passages without losing the rhythm or comprehension of the escalating saga. This unself-consciously clever nod to ancient mythology and faerie lore will satisfy fans of Patricia Briggs, L. Penelope, and Lilith Saintcrow as inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien.

The best fantasy story out. Period. This has literally everything you could want - and I don’t feel guilty reading it like I do some fantasy books. This was written for people who love fantasy and need more adult language and situations.

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas is a romantic high fantasy retelling of Beauty and the Beast where 19 year old huntress, Feyre becomes the prisoner of a Fey High Lord and slowly falls in love with him and breaks a curse to save him. Featuring steamy romance, snarky humor, an evil enchantress, fey both beautiful and horrifying, and a main character struggling to save everything she holds dear.
Of course this book and series are wildly popular and I likely can't add anything that hasn't been said a hundred times, but I greatly enjoyed and still feel nostalgia for years after my first reading. The characters are interesting and feel "real" and the world-building is great. The pacing is a bit on the slow side and didn't really grab me until the last half of the book, leading up to a page turning finale. And of course an even better second book. I absolutely recommend this book to anyone looking for a bit of romance and magical escapism.

I have already previously read this book and series, and every time I love it just as much! This book sucks you in and leaves you wanting more.

The characters are great and well written, though someitmes you want to shake them and ask them WTH?!

The world building is wonderful and makes you wish you could live in the fae world just by finding your way through the wall. I loved the different creatures and always find myself wanting to know more about them.

Maas knows her way around a story and not only gives you a full eperience but gives you all the feels in the process. I think I went throught every emotion reading this book, even though it was not my first time. Nor will it be my last.

I will say, and I mean this with love and as a huge fan of the series, I'm not a fan of the cover change. I know this is being rebranded but I honestly do not think the covers properly represent the story. I do not at all think Fae when I see this cover and think I would honestly pass it up had I been introduced to it with this new cover. It saddens me that I may have missed out on this story that I love so much.

Thank you to Netgalley and Bloomsburry for this e-copy in exchange for an honest review.
