Wow! This book is amazing! I am in love. Sarah J. Mass has blown me away with this story. I loved the characters and this world is so beautiful and memorable, I cannot wait to revisit it. I will be sure to read the next book in the series right away and if it was possible to give a book more than five stars this book would receive 10. A court of mist and fury will definitely be getting a place of honor on my bookshelf.

Feyre has had a hard life. She's the only one in her family willing to venture out in to the forest and provide food for her family so that they can survive. Her two sisters and father live with her, but times have been tough. They definitely aren't living as extravagantly as they once used to.

Beyond the forrest are Fairies and magic that Feyre tries to stay away from. These creatures on the other side are evil monsters or so legends say. When Feyre shoots and kills a wolf who is magical - a beast comes from the shadows to take Feyre as retribution to the other side of the wall.

Feyre immediately hates the beast who is also known as Tamlin. But the more she gets to know him, the deeper she begins to fall for him and this magical place known as Spring Court.

I can't really go into more detail without giving away the rest of the plot, but I was immediately enthralled with this world. I loved all of the details and places that Maas takes us through A Court of Thorns and Roses. I could totally see this being turned into a movie. It was part Hunger Games, part Game of Thrones and just it's own beautiful world.

A Court of Throne and Roses was the perfect blend of intrigue, fantasy, romance and suspense all intertwined with one another. I've already bought the next book in the series and can't wait to read it!

WOW! I absolutely loved this book. This series by Sarah J. Maas completely reignited my passion for reading fantasy romance. Having never read any books about fae before, I wasn't sure what exactly to expect? And let me just say, Maas blew my expectations COMPLETELY out of the water!

What starts out as a Beauty & the Beast retelling quickly becomes something much, much more. I thought the beginning starts off a tad slow while Maas is setting the scene for the world and the protagonist's background. However, after the first few chapters it quickly picks up and is absolutely unpredictable. I thought the writing was well-done, and Feyre was a protagonist that I could really root for and identify with. I literally could not put this book down. It's a page turner in the literal sense of the word.

I am so happy I found out about this book after all of the trilogy books were released, because I cannot imagine how painful it would have been to not be able to read anymore. For those that might not like this first book, I would highly advise reading the second and seeing if your opinion changes. There are so many revelations and I had to re-read the first book to pick up on some clues that were left. I recommend this book to anyone who loves romantasy and plot twists!

Note: I do like these covers, but I'll always feel partial to the original illustrated ones for the nostalgia factor. ;)

I would definitely recommend A Court of Thorns & Roses series to all my friends, family and followers. A fantasy read with a little bit of something for everyone. Betrayal, romance, action and a little bit of horror. What's not to like. This is a can't put down type of read. I ended up binge reading the whole series in a week and cannot wait to read more from Sarah J. Maas.
Definitely worth all the hype!

I was somehow confused or mislead by the description— I thought this edition was an adult retelling of the story, not just an updated “adult” cover. I’ve enjoyed Maas in the past, including this title, and plan to give her future books my attention.

I previously rated this title with 4 stars, and am happy to see I feel similarly now.

Such a great tale. It is told from the view of the captor until it is told from the view of love and loyalty hard earned. It is beautiful and woven with the sense of urgency that betrayal fosters. I felt privileged to have experienced the world of the great Farieries

I'm still not entirely sure what to think of A Court of Thorns and Roses. I've seen it hyped literally everywhere, and while I do love a good fantasy book, I usually lean towards books with sapphic/lesbian/bisexual female characters. But after scrolling past at least ACOTAR posts per day on Bookstagram, I'd started to develop a little F.O.M.O regarding the series, so when I saw this book available as a 'Read Now' title, I jumped at the chance to finally check it out.

I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it, either. I enjoyed the first twenty-ish chapters, though they were a bit slow, but started to lose interest when the Tamlin/Feyre romance plot picked up. It didn't feel like they had much chemistry, and when I had to suffer through the erotic gnawing scene, I wasn't sure I'd be able to take the book seriously again. Thankfully, I was wrong, and once I was around 60% into the book, it completely sucked me in.

Can I say I now understand why this book is so hyped? No. It didn't feel particularly unique or especially well written to me, just sort of average. Even so, I do plan to give the next book in the series a try, as several friends are confident I'll enjoy it more. I'm going to settle on three stars for now, but do know that I wouldn't leave a star rating at all if it wasn't required, because I still don't know exactly how I feel about this book.

This was the first fantasy book that I've read in a long time and I really enjoyed it. I loved the bits of different fairy tales that were weaved into the story. Plus the map was an awesome addition. I wish more books included maps of the areas they talk about.

I really enjoyed this book, which was a little surprising because in the first couple of pages I wasn't keen. Thankfully I soon got into the story and lost in the world. I have since bought all books in this series and am contemplating the author’s other series (although I have so many books on my netgalley shelf it might be 2021 before I get round to that!).

(2 Stars) There really wasn't anything I liked 😅

An arc was provided by the publisher through NetGalley

I had seen so much about this book, and this series in general. Most of my friends absolutely love this series and I really enjoyed the first 2 books in the Throne of Glass series by the same author, and Crescent City is one of my favourite books of the year. So when I saw this available as an ARC I immediately got it. Unfortunately I did not really like it, not only that, there wasn't anything I did like.

A Court of Thorns and Roses is about a human girl named Feyre. One day when she is out hunting she kills a wolf that was going after the same deer. Unbeknownst to her, this wolf was actually a Faerie. According to an ancient treaty she now has to spend the rest of her life in the lands of the Fae and leave her family behind.

The best way to describe this book is an enemies to lover romance set in a fantasy world. Where the main character Feyre is basically Bella Swan from Twilight but with a bow and Tamlin is an obsessive controlling freak. I did not enjoy the romance, I did not enjoy the characters, there wasn't any plot and the prose isn't something to write home about either.

I understand why people may like this book, but it's just not for me. You may wonder why I gave it 2 stars and not 1 and that is because I did not hate the book. I just did not like it.

I've talked to my friends about this series and they all tell me to read the next book to really understand why they like it so much. I have decided to add it to my tbr, but since that's basically neverending, I won't get to it anytime soon.

I cannot believe it took me so long to read Sarah J. Maas. So much wasted time I could have spent reading EVERYTHING she's written. I'm completely hooked. Must order more copies!

While I enjoyed the world-building and the various creatures, I felt things needed to be explained better. There were a lot of things that just didn’t make sense to me. Also, the initial romance was a bit weak for me … but I suspect there is going to be a change in alliance soon! I did like the action-packed end, and I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series!

I read and enjoy a lot of YA. This is an older book so I assume it appeared on Netgalley because of an upcoming re-release or new edition. On a technical level, I didn't much enjoy Maas's writing. But she's wildly successful so I'm probably in the minority. To each their own.

This book has been all over bookstagram, but I've been hesitant to read it out of fear that I won't like it. I liked it, but not nearly as much as others have.

While this was a little slow for me in the first half, once it picked up I was hooked. I really just wanted to keep reading to find out what would happen to Feyre. I did get frustrated with her at times when she would just NOT listen to what people were telling her to not do.

I'm super glad that my library had the rest of the series available so I could keep going in this world. I"m definitely invested now. I do love this version of the cover!

An enthralling tale with all of the best elements of a fae story: magic, danger, deceit, beauty, games. And a human...and love.

Feyre's human world is vividly depicted (it is not a two-dimensional flat world in comparison to the Fae) but I wish there was more about the political structure and some other information about the wider world. It doesn't seem that the humans, even with the help of a some Fae, would have been able to overthrow their Fae overlords so it would have been nice to have a little more information on how that happened.

While many of the characters are well developed I found Tamlin and Elain a bit flat. Tamlin has some interesting facets, he's not a complete useless good guy but has some bite to him when necessary. He seems the ideal love interest with even a slight bad boy in him but I didn't buy the love between Feyre and Tamlin. Why would he fall in love with this little experienced human? Just because he has to? It seems more realistic if he fell in love with her during the trials when she should grit, smarts and determination. Then there was substance to love. The chemistry between Rhys and Feyre was better.

Overall an enticing story and I look forward to reading what happens next. Rhys' land promises to be beguiling and will show what Feyre is really made of.

I received a copy of this from Netgalley and the publishers in exchange for a fair review.

I'm not a fan of the new covers but it was nostalgic to go through the very beginning of this series again. Personally, I feel the real story starts towards the very end of this book. The language is very good as is the narration. I can't quit connect to the characters in this one but it obviously improves with the next books so I guess I can overlook it. Overall, a decent start towards a tale I have come to love!

Special thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for granting me a free copy of the e-book in exchange for an honest review.

Although it was not my first — not even my second — time reading this book, I cannot deny that I am still impacted as if it were.

A Court of Thorns and Roses is the second fantasy series published by Sarah J. Maas. It is composed — so far — of three books and one novella and follows the story of Feyre Archeron, a human who, in an attempt to survive, makes a terrible mistake and ends up being taken to the magical lands of Prythian, where the Fae rule and are not much receptive — to say the least — to humans.

Right at the beginning, we follow a nineteen-year-old Feyre looking for something to feed her family in a dangerous forest in the middle of winter. When the only thing between her and her prey is a giant wolf — who may or may not be a fae —, the girl kills it without mercy.

After returning home, to her invalid father and hee cruel sisters, Feyre doesn't let her mind think too much about the consequences of what happened in the forest, until days later, when a horrible beast burst in through the door, demanding to know who had killed the wolf that — surprise — was a fae.

With the price of murder being one life for the other, Feyre is forced to leave her family and accompany the beast to the other side of the Wall that separates the human kingdom from the magical lands of the north — Prythian.

In a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, Feyre discovers not only that her captor is a High-Fae who owns gigantic spring lands, but also that Prythian is suffering from a terrible blight — one that holds ball masks stuck to everyone's faces in the residence — that may end up advancing soon to the Human Lands.

On this journey, Feyre will have to see beyond appearances and understand what it is like to love someone unconditionally, without minding the barriers. — or the thorns.

I met ACOTAR by a friend of mine between 2016-2017, where she sat with me and made me hear a summary of the entire first chapter. It was love at first sight. I devoured this book so fast that all the sensations — joy, shock, vibrations and lamentations — passed like a blur ... I can say that I can divide my literary life into before and after I met Feyre, her history and the wonderful writing of Sarah J. Maas.

I met wonderful people and communities through this work and I think that is what matters for a reading to stick with you.

Of course, after the events of the second book (cof cof Rhysand cof cof), Court of Thorns and Roses was a bit blasé in comparison, but it’s still a installment that I’m very fond of and that I’ll always keep in my heart. After all, that's where it all started. So I always keep my rating the same (5 stars) with each re-reading, even though I can't wait to go and enjoy a Court of Mist and Fury.

For those who haven't read ACOTAR: Read and persevere until ACOMAF, seriously.

For those who have read, but did not pass to the second: GO READ ACOMAF, seriously.

For those who have read everything and are just waiting for the fourth: cry with me and tell me, what is your guess for the Nessian present ? 😂

"Because I didn't want you to fight alone. Or die alone."

I can understand the hype surrounding this book. The story is extremely interesting and engaging. There are plenty of twists and turns, while still predictable, are fun and can be surprising. The story was fast paced.

One of my biggest issues with this story was how similar to The Hunger Games this story was. I understand that there will be similarities in every book to another book; however, it sometimes felt like Maas was basing Feyre off of Katniss. Both characters hunt with a bow and arrow and using hunting as a means of survival. Both characters are whisked away from their families. Both of their "followers" place their fingers to their mouths before raising them in the air as a sign of good bye or good luck or support. It just felt very much like Feyre was a recreation of Katniss, so I didn't feel like I got a truly good sense of who Feyre could have been.

[ It was also difficult reading this book knowing who Feyre was going to end up with in the end. That is 100% my fault for being spoiled (although it is hard to stay spoiler free), but it was difficult to get invested in this relationship knowing it wasn't going to last. Knowing that Feyre was going to end up with Rhysand instead of Tamlin, but not knowing why was challenging. I have yet to read the other books. (hide spoiler)]

Feyre annoyed me a little bit. She had moments where she was brilliant. I loved that she was stubborn and kept pushing through even when things were difficult. I admired her strength in trying to protect the ones she loved even when it meant that she could be killed instead. However, she felt a little wishy washy. She wanted to run away, yet when Tamlin showed her the art supplies, she was like "okay. Guess I'll stay here." The relationship between Tamlin and Feyre, while sweet, didn't ooze love. (view spoiler)

I did still really enjoy this story. I am afraid that the overhypedness of the book got to me, and I don't feel like it lived up to the hype. However, I do remember really enjoying it the first time around, which is why I am keeping the 4 star review.

I'm not sure why it took me so long to find this book/series, but I am so glad that I did. The fairy/human element was extremely well done, and to have the different courts and the 'mystery' of Amarantha throughout really held my interest. Why Tamlin kept the secret from Feyre I will never know completely, but why she didn't tell him she loved him too? It would have changed everything, but what kind of book would that have been, lol!

Really enjoyed this one and can't wait to finish the series.

Feyre does what she can to survive and provide for her family. After her mom died when she was younger, Feyre promised to keep an eye out for the rest of her family no matter what. When she goes out to hunt one day and ends up killing a Faerie, her life is forever changed. She finds herself in the land of Prythian, home to the High Fae. One thing leads to another and Feyre has to fight for her life against Amarantha and the curse that she placed over all Faeries.

I actually read this book a few years ago but never completed the series. I cannot express how glad I am to have gone back and reread it! Sarah J. Maas does a great job at building the world of Prythian. Her characters are complex, and I cannot help but sympathize with Rhysand. It took me much longer to finish this book than I had originally thought, but every moment was worth it, and I cannot wait to pick up 'A Court of Mist and Fury' as soon as possible!

A huge thank you to NetGalley and Bloomsbury Publishing for providing a copy of this book!
