Awesome book! Loved it, Blake is chasing an evil being. Caly accidentally becomes prey to the evil known as the ghost! Can Blake and his pack protect Caly? Especially when Caly is human or is she? This book has all kinds of fun supernaturals in it! First time reading this author but not last!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own

Initially I was unsure about this book. While the synopsis captured my attention, I was a little unsure about the way this book was going to go. I was so unsure that I had the book loaded up on my screen but didn't start reading until some time later. It took me until about a good 100 pages in before I settled into the writing style. I would still that the author go back to the first 1/3 of the book and doing some re-writing. I found it hard to keep track of the POVs. It was like the majority of the chapter was in one POV then for a sentence or two it would randomly switch. It was very confusing. This made it harder to really get into the story, I would suggest to the author that the book just be in the POV of Blake and Caly or at least stating at the start of the chapter whos POV it would be in.

I kept reading this story out of sheer will and the promise of an interesting plot. As the story progressed I did get pulled into the plot, there were many characters that were interesting, they just need fine tuned. The development of Blake and Caly's relationship was interesting and I did enjoy how the secondary characters showed development as well.

Overall this book needs a lot of work but the story is very interesting once you get into it.

This book is far from perfect, and yet I really, really liked it! Can’t wait for the sequel 😊

When I say it’s far from perfect, my main issue is with the writing - it’s a bit “green” and could use some copywriting. It also got a bit boring around the second third of the book, and can be too descriptive at times.

However, it has many of the main ingredients for a great book: great worldbuilding, relatable MC, hot and adorable love interest, sexy scenes 🔥, funny scenes, dangerous scenes, amazing friendships...

The romance might be an issue for those who aren’t fans of instalove, but I would give it a go anyway if I were you ;) plus, I need to highlight again, the FRIENDSHIPS! I hate it when a book makes the story all about the MC and the love interest, as if there aren’t any other people of relevance in their life. This book has so many moments that are about friendship, and some of the funniest scenes happen thanks to that.

I’m curious to see what comes next in the sereis, would love to have a deeper look into the Species’ world, find out who the villain is and what he wants... And of course, see what happens with the other potential couples in the story! 😁

Such an amazing tasteful paranormal romance.
I really loved how the story unfolds. It jumps right to it at the start and as it goes on the pieces slowly unravel.
If you're a fan of Shapeshifter and romance and steamy scenes, this is definitely a go-to book!

The multiple POV was great, just a little more notice that the POV was changing because sometimes it seemed like things were being repeated, but it was actually the other person's POV.

Other than this, it has been a great read!

First, thank you Netgalley, and the publisher for allowing me to read a advanced copy, in exchange for a honest review.

I really enjoyed the concept of this book. There are many parts that I find funny, and enjoyed reading. I just also found myself cringing while reading, and had a hard time finishing. The writing felt very inconsistent, there were parts that had left me confused as to what was going on, who was thinking what. Then there were parts that were packed with to much detail, and usually on very insignificant scenes. Although this Is adult fantasy, it felt very childish. I do see the potentially of what the author was attempting but it tried to included too many different story lines. The characters where described a little too much, trust me you won’t forget what any of them look like because you are reminded every chapter. They also didn’t act or interact like adults, they were barely a step up from snotty high school kids. Overall, this is a long book, considering it is also the first in a series I feel it unnecessary, at the same time it felt rushed. It felt very generic making it hard to connect to.

I did hover over the three or four star rating when i started to review this book. I think i faltered because i found the book very long and a little over detailed. I actually went with a four star rate because that was my first thought when I finished and the fact that i really did enjoy it..

The love story between Caly and Blake was not in your face "insta love / lust" There was a nice build up to their story. Both characters were likable and Calys character grew stronger as the story-line progressed. The other characters were also strong and you got a great feel as to who they are. I did find all the detailed information about them a bit too much in parts, but having said that I can see why, especially as this is the first book. Laying out the story-line and characters would be integral to the series, especially if they will be getting their own books.

The plot was interesting, fast paced and exciting in parts. The world building was imaginative but I felt once again that some of it was detailed too much. Not a bad thing but it did make the story drag just a little. The humour that ran through the story was funny, it did not feel forced at all and read very smoothly. . .

I would recommend this well written stand alone book and having read the teaser at the end, I am looking forward to the next one.

DNF on the first page. Could tell straight away that this needed a decent editor from the swapping of time/tense and third/first person. Knew instantly this book wouldn’t be for me.

With a backstory like that we are in for a ride. First book in a new series, and an author that I haven’t read before. By day Caly Is a paralegal. At night she dreams of being swept off her feet. Her day job is not as thrilling as she’d like, but it pays the bills, only she’s just lost a big client to a rival in the firm! Can anything else go wrong today? Blake works for SILE or Species Intelligence and Law Enforcement. His team combines many species of paranormals, they hunt down anyone breaking the law. Or trying to cross The Barrier (it keeps the human world separate from the paranormal one) Their main task is to find and bring in The Mastermind and The Ghost. Wanted for murders (i get there is more to this story than we are being told at the moment) Caly dreams of Blake, (well she doesn’t know it’s Blake at first) but doesn’t communicate with him at first. There is just a lot of staring into one another’s eyes. I did have to chuckle at the description of Caly, it gave me a sense of airhead and a dreamer, but there is so much more to her than that. She chats to both herself and her cat, she loves coffee and music (my kinda girl already) I have a feeling she feels like she doesn’t really fit into the L.A lifestyle, she’s more of a laidback kind of woman. Blake is an alpha through and through. A man tied to his job, works hard and expects the same from his team. But he does care for his team, and looks on them as family. We get introduced to Blake’s team (luckily not that large) they all work well together, when not antagonising one another. A couple of my favourite characters already were Rhyland and Rhyker. The playful banter between the twin panther shifters and the other members is hilarious to read. The book is surprisingly long (but it doesn’t drag anywhere) but really well written. And for a first book I was impressed. Nothing worse than reading pages and pages, but not really going anywhere with it. Plenty of action (including fight scenes) 😉 yes there is the usual “you mate, me Alpha” but it’s something that goes with the paranormal territory. And when they finally meet, it’s not love at first sight, but more like a lot of screaming (that would be Caly) Working together they try to find out who or what Caly is (she says she’s human, her scent says different) So..... We have the bad guy or guys (The Mastermind and The Ghost) We have our team of good guys. And we have a human who doesn’t seem to be what she claims. A really good start to what I’m hoping is a wild ride of a series. Definitely recommend this book. 🦋

I love Paranormal Romances - it falls in the the exact area between fantasy and reality that makes it very easy to fall into; especially if it is quite well written!

Calypso's Heart is the first book in what looks to be a whole new series about Vampires, Wolves, Seers, Witches etc but much of this book was laying the foundation to not just the romance but also the whole slew of characters who will, hopefully have their own HEAs.

Like most PNRs, Calypso's Heart also has a strong Insta _ Love plotline (Mating situations!); so if you aren't a fan of this plotline, maybe keep away - because it is overly strong in this book; as well as some cheesy situations between the main characters!

I really like the protagonists; Caly may come off as a brat at times, but she is still young so that's pardonable but she is also quirky and weirdly relatable! Blake, on the other is a dreamy and charming Wolf; one you could totally drool over! Though, the book could have used a little more structure - there were multiple POVs; yet there was no indication whose view we were reading, until I was halfway through the chapter!

I still definitely enjoyed the book; and would definitely pick up the next one in the series <3

I really struggled with this read. I could see what the author was heading towards, making a new dark paranormal romance series very similar to other books like the Black Dagger Brotherhood, but it just did not make it there. The writing was very choppy, skipping around between scenes and events in a non-linear fashion and the level of details was intense and overwhelming. The narration (especially between the very over the top macho paranormal group who acted more like rowdy coeds instead of professional adults) would switch without warning between characters and it was super confusing not knowing who was thinking/talking. I could not get into or care about this very long (over 600 pages) book but I kept on reading since all the other reviews I read said it gets better.

I just don't think this was for me. I can see the bare bones of the book being interesting, but the details and lack of focus made this a chore instead of a reward to read. I seem to be a minority with not liking this so if you like paranormal romances and like long stories pick this up.

A girl’s world turned upside down as the paranormal becomes simply part of her day to day life .
This book had all the elements I look for in a shifter romance story without falling to domineering alpha trope that tends to send me away from this type of literature. Only the over inclusion of songs and questionable understanding of male banter prevent this from becoming a five star read for me . I hope the rest of the series will be as meaty as this first book is.
This book is a good fit for those who enjoy the Anita Blake Vampire hunter series.

Woah, this book is filled to the brim with world building and characters! As the start of series, it certainly delivers.

Caly is going about her normal life when suddenly everything is different. She's got hot dreamy men who turn out to be real. Hot evil men who also, sadly, turn out to be real. That ultimately ends up being the big bad of this book. Caly goes through *a lot* in this one book, but it is all leading up to her "becoming." So, let's back it up. Caly thinks she knows a lot about her world, having survived without her parents, has been making rent and working a job, and generally being a responsible adult. There is a whole other world, however, that is beyond the "barrier" where all sorts of supernaturals live.

Blake is one such supernatural, who heads up a pack of very diverse males. It's this crew that Caly finds herself suddenly a part of after some ugly stuff. Blake is, of course, immediately smitten. These two have super sexy smutty good times and even work on a relationship. The rest of the crew is clearly set up for future installments, but I loved each of them in their own way. Don't worry, there's women, too! As far as world building goes, this book delivers and then some. It is *long* and that's from a book addict. The pages fly, though, especially with the shifting POVs. I can't wait to see where the author takes us next!

I enjoyed reading Calypso's Heart, it had what I was looking for in a shifter romance. I liked the main leads and felt that there was a chemistry to them, I look forward to more in the series.

When she learns everything she thought she knew was only a half truth, how will she face her future ...

I might have done an error when setting this book in my scheduled arc calendar as I wrote its release to be for July, 20.
And because the length of it put me off a bit, I planned to read it a few days before release but while preparing my review I discovered it was released a few days ago.
And by curiosity I checked on a few of the reviews, some wrote too about the length, so I now dread a bit more my reading.
But here we go.
And yes it is a long book but until the last quarter, I did not felt it dragged on except from time to time too many details but outside that, it was an interesting read.
While the beginning reminds me a bit of Lucas and Sasha story in the first Psy-Changeling novel when they meet in their dreams, the similarities stop there. In fact the many different super beings, the Orion order and the ancient group and the divided world made me more think about the Bewitched and Bewildered series.
Sure it lags a bit at time with many details, the author introduces her new world and her many characters, offering to each of them at one moment or an other their own space to voice their thoughts.
It even sets up some of the potential couples to be featured in the next books.
I liked the Caly of the beginning, even if I knew where the plot would lead her. And I was quite upset at how her rescue was handled, I did not felt it was an emergency, like they needed too much time to find her.
After the Caly post trauma was very ambivalent, often shifting from one mood to another, dancing around Blake. And oft hurting him even if it was involuntarily done.
Thus I was not sure about the Evil Ice Queen part nor its necessity to the global plot.

But Blake, I loved him, he knows what he wants and goes for it.
Sure he has no doubts on his origins when Caly must learn everything. But he is straightforward and plays no game.
He is an alpha and he takes his role seriously, he protects and hunts if necessary.

The other members of the group are all very intriguing, from the twins big kitties full of fun, the vampire, the geek, the seer, the healers...
Outside shifters, I do wonder if the other species feel the life mate pull?

In all, even if it was not perfect, it is fun new world, I still have some interrogations about it but the various characters will keep the stories up to come entertaining.
4,25 stars .

I was granted an advance copy by the author, here is my true and unbiased opinion.

Wow, this is the first word that had came in my mind after I finished my reading !!!

The plot was just great, I had been blown away by this reading, and the characters, can we talk about how fun, loving and awesome they are?
Caly was lost and when she met Blake, it was like something in her was being completed. I love their interactions, and how their relationship has evolved from chapters to chapters !!
Caly’s story broke my heart, she doesn’t know who she really is, but someone in the shadow is stalking her and knows that she’s hiding a secret. A secret that even Caly will have to discover with the help of her new friends and protector. And little Felix, so adorable !!

What’s also make that story great, it.s the secondary character !! I won’t lie, I have a crush on Rhyker, I’m so happy that his book will be next, because I can’t wait to read it !!

I’m also very intrigued by Deacon, I also can’t wait to know more about him.

I was not a huge fan of this book. While reading I found myself constantly confused and I was never 100% sure which character was which. Sometimes I found Caly’s inner monologues to be unnecessary. Blake and the gang were interesting, and part of me hoped they’d make the book better, but sadly that didn’t happen.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this eARC
Caly has been dreaming about two men who she has never met, GQ and Mr Mysterious but all that is about to change. Caly feels no fear when seeing these men or interacting with the in her dreams even when Mr Mysterious rocks up on her doorstep after an encounter with GQ tells her to repeat a sentence to a man with dark cold eyes.
However these are not the only men in her life after a car accident introduced her to Nick. Although Caly thinks Nick is nice she is not interested in him romantically and after a couple of nice dates Caly intends to stop seeing him however Nick has other ideas.
I loved the found family storyline and how Caly builds her relationship with them. I loved the other characters in the family particularly the twins Rhyland and Rhyker with their antics and tricks towards Nico. I felt that the character development of Caly, the twins and Nico although for him they were small significant changes. I thought that it would take me longer than 2 days to finish as it is not a short read but found the flow of the story was one that I could continue to read with few breaks.
There was a few spoiler chapters from the new book included but I resisted reading these so that I can be surprised when I read it.

Absolutely loved this, the first couple of chapters were a touch slow, but even with that I was still hooked and needed to know what was going on. I love Caly andBlake so much, Caly is tough but in the real woman tough sense, strong but not invincible and with flaws, with what she goes through and doesn’t give up, I loved her so much. Who wouldn’t love and want their own Blake or either of the twins ! I loved this so much I rushed off and bought it in hardback because I needed a physical copy to love too ! This is a great start to a new series and I really look forward to future books. Highly recommended

Calypso's Heart has very promising elements for a very fun new paranormal series.

There is a lot going on in this book. Caly has been waking up after having very intense, very weird dreams about handsome men. Blake, alpha wolf shifter and leader of Orion's Order, has been having vivid dreams of a woman with intense grey eyes. And then, off we go. When I say there is a lot going on, I mean A LOT.

Normally, I am super excited to start a new paranormal series or really any new to me author but from the beginning, we have so much information and quite a few paranormal pitfalls piled on top of one another and a huge pile of info-dump that had me flipping back my e-reader pages because I was so confused. I think the author was attempting to connect us with our h by the great unifiers (music and coffee) but these scenes came across as very awkward and really oddly superficial air-head-ish. I feel where we lacked depth in characters we were privy to more superfluous actions and scenes and just pages of why did this even need to happen. And I know what the author was trying to convey, so I kept on truckin' through the pages. But some scenes we skipped POV so many times I felt like a ghost oddly going through a room and possessing its inhabitants at random every 5 seconds. And then sometimes a scene would end and then a new chapter would begin but going back in time to tell their POV of the recent happenings... *sigh* It grew a bit wearisome.

One of my main qualms was with the boys of Orion's order. First, men do not describe themselves that way unless they are on that same team if you know what I mean. Second, the banter. Oy, the banter. I think the author needs to have some experience in just observing males in their natural habitat and figuring out how to accurately write out those scenes. Half the time someone says something inane and then there's chuckling and I'm so confused at what is so damn funny. Like I was beginning to want to punch someone because it happened SO MUCH.

In the end, once you filter through all the 600 plus pages, there is a good story to be told here. I think that the author would really, really benefit from a good editor to help her narrow down her message and storyline.

This was so not what I expected. The characters are very juvenile and there is so much confusion on who is who. I really ride yo like this, but just couldn’t do it.
