Important to know, this book ends on a cliffhanger, but what a journey ! This story have plenty of supernatural beings between shifters, mages, vampires… There is a lot of info to process at the beginning, but that helped me settle in the story and really picture it whilst reading the book. This book is so worth the read, I couldn’t put it down!

2 stars

A good book, writing style to my liking, good world building and characters.
However, I've got often the feeling of reading book 2 without reading the first one.

I do so love books of a supernatural variety so naturally this one was of interest to me. What’s not to live about a well crafted story with interesting characters and a strong female lead? My first book by the author but won’t be the last!

This story is weaves together a kind of coming of age tale and paranormal journey adventure.

What I liked
1. The use of the character having to rapidly learn about the paranormal world to run the reader through the basics alongside her. This technique has always worked well for me as a reader and it is nice to see modern writers aren’t abandoning it entirely.

2. The main motivation driving are leading lady is a need to reach her family to prevent their impending doom. ( I have a soft spot for that sort of thing . )

3. Side characters do actually feel developed and that helps the world feel more fleshed out as a whole.

What I didn’t care for

1. Often It feels like the story has the wrong main character. This is perhaps an issue with her not having time to grieve a loss early on in the story that leaves her seeming somewhat dragged along for the ride as crazy stuff just happens to/around her..

2. Paragraph transitions in action scenes feel stilted and abrupt at times.

Who I recommend the story too

Readers who enjoyed the warrior heir series may find themselves at home reading wild child.

What is not to love about this story! Shifters, demons, other worlds, fighting, strong female characters, the list goes on. When I started reading this book it was not at all what I expected and I did not want to put it down. The attraction of the two main characters it awesome and I love the relationship between Terri and Curtis. To be honest all of the significant characters are interesting and I look forward to seeing where they go in the follow up books particularly Logan.
And the ending...why did it have to end on that note. I am now so excited to delve into the rest of the series to find out what is going on.

This story is packed with vampires, shifters, mages, and magic - a whole ecosystem of supernatural beings that is very fascinating. While there is a lot of info-dumping at first, you are learning about everything alongside Kasha. It is interesting to see how all of these supernatural elements affect each of the characters that are introduced. I struggled a little bit to get into the story at first. It started off slow but and in the mundane world. Then it started to pick up a lot of these supernatural elements and it is as these supernatural elements are added that the story really took off.

Kasha had to deal with a lot of grief and loss, her world shifted quickly. But her mental mindset didn't always reflect that. Sometimes in these big action stories, there isn't a lot of time to grieve but it's hard to imagine the loss of a significant other wouldn't affect how Kasha would start to interact with new people entering into her life, and that isn't picked up in this story.

However, I loved Kasha's opposite, Leonidas. He felt better written. He had a little more weight to him, and his perspective in the story I like the most. The author seemed to know that character better than Kasha and that reflected in what was going on internally with each of the characters and how each of the characters written. Even in the sentence structure and how they interacted with other characters. There were points where the writing still felt like it needed to go through some editing.

I will let it be noted that this book does end on a major cliffhanger. This is the start of something big. I am interested in seeing where this book goes because of that cliffhanger.

I do still have some issues with the world that was built up, as much as I liked it because you had some naming structures that were too similar. It was hard to pull it apart.

But I recommend this read for anybody who wants a very action-packed supernatural romance thriller.

This story ropes you in and takes you on a ride of discovery.

This was a well writen story with a strong MC and lots of adventure. I loved watching Kasha grow as a character and overcome new situations. It was fun to see her find out about and embrace her magical abilities.

It has fun side characters that you will love just as much. Laverne has a wonderful way of bringing the story to life and I am interested to see what happens next.

It took me a while to get into this book, but once I did I really enjoyed it. Keisha and Leonides are engaging characters who are well matched with each other. The characters are well developed and the story is well crafted. I hope the next book will be published soon. I can't wait.

Full disclosure: I ended up DNF-ing the book at about the 30% mark.

The book has a rough opening. Kasha's backstory is interwoven with her desperate need to contact her family in California and save them from impending doom, but ultimately the backstory feels like an info-dump for the first couple of chapters. Though I understood the relationship between Kasha and her parents, I didn't get a good sense of who *Kasha* was, and overall the world felt a little underdeveloped. The writing isn't as strong as I would like it to be, either, which made it hard to power through.

It wasn't until chapter five that we got a better grounding in the world (when the mundane world starts to become strange), and I was really hoping to get more of that! However, the "special one" narrative begins to take over and every time we go back to Kasha's POV I lost interest. I really liked the parts with her art, the action sequences were fairly good, and I liked the potential for conflict, but this ended up falling short for me.

Though I will not give this a star rating because it was DNF'd, I would give the first third a 3-star rating. I would not recommend unless you really enjoy paranormal romance/urban fantasy and don't mind a bit of info-dump at the beginning.

I really really can’t give this book enough praise. I absolutely loved it. At first I wasn’t sure about the apocalyptic setting in the US, since I don’t normally read books like that; however, the book drew me in so fast. I had a really hard time putting it down at 1am and finished it as soon as I could the next day.
Kasha is such a great character, and I love seeing her develop her magic powers and learning more about herself. Leonidas is also an intriguing character that I hope we get to learn more about in the next book.
