I first read this translation of my favorite volume of À la recherche du temps perdu back in 2002 when it first appeared from booksellers in the UK (owing to copyright law it couldn't be published in a US edition until now). It was a delight to revisit so many years later. I'm unable to adjudicate between Collier's translation and that of Moncrieff & Kilmartin -- they each have their merits, and I think they are both wonderful in their distinct ways. Perhaps the most noticeably recurrent difference between them is how dialogue is rendered. Collier's translation of dialogue seems somehow more contemporary to my ears, Also, there seems to be more variety in sentence structure in this translation. Overall, highly recommend.
