A different kind of story but I loved it. Made you think of old age. I was impressed how the author covered dignitas. Made you think. The friendship betweeb Rose, Stanley and Eudora. It helped them all. Just a great book.

Oh my goodness what a fabulous read. Warning though, I ended up pretty much sobbing.

This novel is the telling of Dora. Currently 85, and a bit grumpy. Through a friendship with a new next door neighbour who is 10 years old, Dora learns to trust and love again.

I loved the flashbacks of Dora's life. Hers was one that many women can empathise with. A perception that they should give up all for others.

I also particularly liked that present day Dora learnt to love again via friendship. So often it's assumed that romantic relationships restore us. This though showed how platonic love from a range of sources is so powerful.

Although I wasn't a fan, I imagine those who loved A Man Called Ove will like this book.

PUNCHY YET SOFT-CENTRED
At first I thought this book might be a bit depressing but how wrong I was.
Eudora has led a hard life; fulfilling a promise to her late dad to look after her mum & sister, always putting other's happiness before her own, which at times has cost her dearly.
Now 85 years old and alone in the world she starts to thing about how she wants her life to end, until Rose, a feisty little girl, moves in next door. To Eudora's dismay her neat ordered life is turned upside down yet gradually Eudora finds that she is starting to enjoy herself once she lets other people in.
This book tackles some difficult subjects including loneliness, bullying, grief, guilt and many aspects of death including assisted euthanasia but in a gentle, calm way.
I loved the relationships between Eudora, Rose and Stanley which made me giggle several times.. The old meeting the modern; people, traditions, manners, customs and technology.
A fantastic book which although sad in places shows what happens when people are kind to each other and look after one another.

Eudora Honeysett is Quite Well, Thank You by Annie Lyons

Eurdora Honeysett is 85 years old and done with life. She's not depressed or ill but wants to die before she becomes infirm and loses her independence. However, Eudora's new next door neighbour, 10 year old Rose, has other plans and a wonderful adventure ensues.

What a fantastic book - one of my favourites of the year so far! I loved the characters of Eudora and Rose, and right from the start their interactions and growing friendship gave me a lump in my throat. I liked Eudora from the very beginning of the story but the flashbacks to her childhood and youth were a brilliant way of explaining her personality and mannerisms. And Rose added so much humour and heart to the story. The book deals with some very serious issues - death, loneliness, families, aging, bullying, sibling rivalry - but is also funny and poignant. I cried buckets at the end as I was so engrossed in the characters' lives. Very highly recommended!

Thanks to NetGalley and publisher for an ARC of this book.

Eudora is 85 and planning to end her life in a Swiss clinic. She has had a long life and endured sadness and her mind is made up until Rose moves in me t door and turns Eudora’s life upside down.
This is a beautiful book, never dull, great characters and a great story. I’ll happily read anything by Annie Lyons and shall await her next masterpiece.

I wasn't sure I'd get through this book to begin with as it seemed a little slow. I carried on, however, and it ended up to be a beautiful story that had me reaching for the tissues.
I was enchanted by Rose, Eudora's next door neighbour and wish that I saw more children who displayed her life and vivacity. It also remined me that we need each other, We cannot exist in a bubble and that having others in our lives makes it a richer journey.
A recommended read.

In this delightful novel, we meet 85-year old Eudora Honeysett and a few of the people that arrive, uninvited, into her life.
Miss Honeysett (remember that the older generation do dislike the current trend of referring to everyone by their given name) has had a long life, but realises that she is getting old & she simply doesn’t want to deteriorate to the point that she will not be able to live the life she wants. She therefore makes contact with a clinic in Switzerland to discuss ending her life at a time of her choosing in a peaceful way.
“Eudora understands that it’s the NHS’s duty to preserve life but sometimes she wishes they’d leave her alone. Sometimes she wishes there was an opt-out clause, a way of making it all stop.”
Eudora is a wonderful character & the language she uses is perfect for a lady of her age. The flashbacks enabled the reader to see how her past influenced her current life & explains some of her reactions and attitudes.

Rose is 10 years old and has just moved in next door to Eudora Honeysett – with no local friends & who has always struggled to fit in with children her own age, Rose decides that Eudora is her new best friend.
Eudora is not sure what to make of the colourful whirlwind that keeps appearing on her doorstep, but slowly Rose brings a new dimension to her life & the two start to rely on each other in ways they would never have imagined. Rose brings new friends into Eudora’s life & helps her to see life through different eyes. Along with Stanley (the widower with 2 dogs), Montgomery the cat & and Maggie (Rose’s mother), Rose helps Eudora to move on from the demons that haunt her past & see a new dimension to life.

The descriptions are very vivid – you can totally see Rose in her eclectic mix of colourful clothes hopping from foot to foot in excitement at a new idea as clearly as you can see Eudora as the “grumpy old lady”. Rose’s character did seem a little young to me – had she been 8 years old rather than 10, I think she would have been slightly more believable.

The book touched on difficult topics – old age, loneliness, loss of independence and death – but it is not a depressing book. Overall this is a story about friendship, family, and how holding onto the past can affect your future. It was a thoroughly enjoyable read.

<b>"Life is precious and as long as we have a reason to continue, we should follow that path"</b>

Do you know how there are some books that while you're reading them you inmediately know are gonna stay with you for a very long time? Well, "Eudora Honeysett is quite well, thank you" was that kind of book for me. Although it deals with some deep issues, it does it in a such a natural way that it was a delight reading it.

Eudora is 85 years old and done with this world. After many sufferings and with her health starting to fail she's decided she wants to end things on her own terms. Rose is her new neighbor, a 10 years old with an outgoing nature and a peculiar fashion sense. Along with Stanley, a recent widower, they make Eudora reflect about her past, her life and what lies ahead.

If this review contains some typos it's because my eyes are still blurry after finishing this. It's not usual for me to cry with a book, but I'm not ashamed to say that in this case I had to keep some tissues at hand while reading cause there were several moments were I found fat tears falling down my face and a lump in my throat. It as such a moving story

Eudora, Rose and Stanley might be some of the most lovable characters I've had the pleasure to read. Ever. They were quirky, funny, well drawn out, managing to move you from laughs to tears in a matter of seconds. I specially loved Rose's character, such an insightful 10 yo, so full of life and at the same time with such an adult take in some issues, as her vision of death as something not to be afraid of. I would definitely want her as a friend and as a fashion guru!

I felt for Eudora so much during the whole story. Loved those glimpses into her past that showed us how she came to be the person she is now. It was so despairing seeing how she put the weight of the world on her shoulders, caring all the time about other people's needs, but what about her needs? I would have liked so much to be able to tell her to live her life for herself and not for others.

A moving story about friendship, death, and most of all life and how it pass you by in a blink, hencefore the importance of living it to the fullest, not letting you be held back by your own history.

A beautiful, poignant story with warm and lovely relationships and characters to fall in love with. Rose is an absolute angel and Annie Lyons has perfectly captured the innocence of children whilst adding many layers of personality to make sure Rose is a character you will never forget. Her ‘thawing’ of Eudora’s heart is simply IG breathtakingly beautiful. Loved this book 4.5 stars.

What a lovely book! I really enjoyed this story of Eudora Honeysett, an eighty-five year old lady who’s ready to die, and makes arrangements to go to a clinic in Switzerland to pass away. She’s tired of feeling old, and wants to be in charge of how she ends her days, instead of being pushed from pillar to post by doctors and nurses. Little does she know that her life is about to change when her new 10 year old neighbour Rose, bursts into her life with colour and noise!!

I liked Eudora and totally understood how she felt about wanting to be in charge of her death. She was a bit rude at times, especially in the beginning of the book, but as she made friends with Rose and the other people she came into contact with, she became more pleasant. Rose was a fantastic character! I could see her in her clashing colourful clothes hopping from foot to foot in excitement.

This book was full of wonderful characters who made me laugh, and also brought a lump to my throat. I enjoyed the use of Eudora’s past history to learn more about her life and why she was the way she was. She’d had a lot of sadness in her life, so much so that at times I wanted to reach into the book and give her a big hug.

Annie Lyons, a new-to-me author has written a really lovely story about friendship, family, regret and letting go of the past. I highly recommend this if you enjoy heartwarming, contemporary fiction.

I loved this book - it was a delightful story which I will be recommending.

It was an emotional read dealing with some difficult issues - old age, loneliness, loss of independence and personal choice (particularly over your own death).

10 year old Rose - who has her own struggles to fit in - moves in next door to Eudora and soon brings an extra dimension to her life - she makes her appreciate what she has and brings her new friends and experiences - all of which make her question what is really important to her.

You see how her past influenced her present and how she allowed it to control her life choices.

A poignant read which makes you question yourself.

Highly recommended.

Eudora Honeysett is 85, cranky and had enough of life, she just wants to die peacefully and then a family from Cornwall moves in next door... 10 year old Rose comes matching into Eudoras life & impacts her on so many levels.

The story alternates between current day and historical events which give a glimpse into Eudoras life starting as a child right through to when her mum dies at 95 years old..

It really is a heartbreaking yet heartwarming book & I highly recommend it.. I laughed and cried in the space of once chapter! Brilliant.

Thanks to netgalley and one more chapter for the advance copy of this book in return for an honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful book!! I wasn’t overly sure at first, but a few chapters in and I was hooked!!!!

Eudora is a wonderful character and I loved her old fashioned use of language and how we eventually find out why she comes across as having a heart of stone! She was betrayed by people she never would have expected and gave up her life to look after her mother!

Rose is the most amazing, vibrant little lady, and although she’s only 10 the relationship between her and Eudora is absolutely gorgeous!! It soon becomes apparent that they both come to rely on one another and need each other!

I really really loved it, and it really made me think about all those living alone, elderly or otherwise. I found it extremely poignant and beautifully written.

Because of this I’m going to have to give it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ as the message is so important!!

This might be one of the best books I have read this year. It reminded me a little of my absolute favourite: A Man Called Ove although the two main characters' situation is slightly different.
I loved Eudora from the very start and admired her for her integrity and backbone. I also loved the other characters; it was real pleasure to read about them. From the flashbacks we learnt about Eudora's heartbreaking past, but the sad episodes were balanced by the gentle humour of the story.
I am glad I have found this delightful book and I am really grateful to the author for the lovely hours I spent with it.

Starting this book, I really wasn't too sure on it but god am I glad I did continue!!! A great story about slightly unusual friendships and how people really can feel internally in comparison to how they are seen by others!

A delightful engaging read with a wonderful set of characters that just developed into a wonderful read. Heartwarming with a certain amount of humour plus some sadness sprinkled throughout but somehow real and poignant. Well written, with good observations of people in everyday life, the story gently flows along. I loved it and recommend without reservation.
