This book started off SO good. I was riveted with the characters and their journey. I couldn't put it down.
But I didn't find other sections quite as interesting or easy to follow. Clearly this author put in a lot of time researching what is contained in these pages. It is staggering the amount of information here.
It took me a long time to finish this book, but I'm glad I did. I especially enjoyed the author's notes at the end talking about the "why" behind how this book came to be.

The Reckoning - Tim Kent
July 24, 2020

I'm a big believer in reading books on subjects I'm not familiar with. Although a tough read at times, with all the names and lineages and dates, this historical novel fell into that category for me. I enjoyed exploring the Southeastern frontier and have a brand new appreciation for pioneer women! Both settlers and Native Americans struggled to survive and hold on to their identities in the late 1700's and early 1800's. An interesting read for history buffs.

The Reckoning by Tim Kent is well researched and written. It gives the history of the Native American struggles as the white men further encroach on their lands and are told how to live. Starting in the 1750s when a German man comes and tries to make them some utopian society, And forward for the next 100 years. I am admitting to finding this book difficult to read, and I am just going to have to blame it on COVID and the other serious things going on right now, maybe the subject matter just didn't fit with my current mindset. I can't hold anything against this book, but I just didn't enjoy it the way I thought I would. The subject matter is of great importance to me, my ancestors are listed on the Dawes Rolls, this is my history. Thank you #NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review #TheReckoning. I'm sorry I couldn't give it a fabulous review, but I hope the point was made that I don't think the problem was the book, but the chaos we have in the world, didn't mesh with the serious subject matter of the book for me.

The Reckoning gives great insight to American history in Southeast of todays USA. Pioneers vs and with Native Americans and their way of living, Hard to survive, fighting for their identity. And then pioneers who wanted to settle somewhere in their teritory.

Characters are well described in this 18. century historical fiction.

I love it.
