I know why it is important to leave reviews, especially for debut or indie authors, that is not why I read this book. Once I finally read the tips the author included the book improved. There were some helpful hints, but when I look back at the experience of reading this book, what I'll remember most is the fact that I stopped reading it time and time again as I trudged through the pedantic bits.

Being a reader, not a writer, I found this b9ok, "How To Write a Simple Book Review", very helpful. The author gives simple, straight forward information which simplifies the process and makes it less intimidating. Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

This is a good guide for anyone like me that struggles with writing book reviews. I can talk about a book all day at the store, but it is so hard to sit down and write a review, as I am always afraid of spilling the beans about a major spoiler!

This book was originally published in 2015 and has been updated for re-release. Ms. Abbott points out that authors rely on book reviews, both positive and negative to better their writing. The chapters are easy to understand and point out simple techniques for your review to be helpful to readers and authors. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

If you are at the very beginning of the book review writing experience, this book is a very systematic overview of why, how and where to post your review. I´ve found the first part of the book less relevant and even irritating, as it vainly encourages readers to post a review of the book read, no matter how articulated or not. I am elitist enough to vary when I am made to think that a book review is as easy to write as a restaurant review. (I love both and in both cases one may need some class to deliver a great piece of recommendation, but still...) Honestly, writing ´I loved this book so much´, still doesn´t count as a book review. Let´s be optimistic and expect book readers much more educated and articulated in writing. They read books, after all...
The second part is more relevant and appeals to book bloggers as well as to publishers and authors looking for some directions about where and how to find their potential reviewers. After all, it looks there are some hopes for balanced and inspiring book reviews on the WWW.

This is a good book if you are hesitant about, or need some direction on, writing book reviews. Ms. Abbott gives pointers on how to go from simple to very detailed, depending on what you want. Ms. Abbott also explains how authors, and others wanting to read a book, look at book reviews. Glad I took the chance to read. Thanks to Ms. Abbott and NetGalley, for the opportunity to read and review this book.

How to Write a Simple Book Review is a handy guide for anyone who is interested in writing reviews. Even if you’ve written books reviews in the past, Allyson Abbott’s book will remind you of some of the basic elements that should be considered, how to construct a book review, and what should be included.

I especially liked the examples that the author has provided. By doing so, her suggestions are nicely illustrated and easy to understand and appreciate. She also reminds her readers why book reviews are important to the author – something we can often forget. While this book may be more relevant for someone who is a novice reviewer, I think it is also a helpful tool for anyone who enjoys writing book reviews. I know I intend to refer to it now and then to help me not only write useful reviews, but to also remind myself why I enjoy the process.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a copy of this book for review.

I appreciate this book immensely. Book reviews are not my strong point. Which is one of the reasons I always fear writing them. I seem to get stumped as to what I want to say. This informative book helps to structure and pinpoint what you want to convey to someone who has not read a book that you have. And how to convince a non-reader to be inspired.

As the title suggests, this little book explains what to include in a book review and provides examples. I especially like that it begins by explaining WHY readers should write reviews and how it helps authors. I appreciate the way that the author approaches writing reviews as something that the "everyday reader" can do--it doesn't require a lit degree to write effective reviews.

Thanks go to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This short book on writing book reviews gives a lot of good information on any readers should leave reviews for books they read, even if they are a) short reviews with just a few words, b) negative reviews with respectful language, and c) honest opinions on a book. The advice given for writing them can apply to both fiction and non-fiction books. Abbott does a good job explaining how reviews are helpful for both authors and readers. Reviewers who have been writing reviews may pick up a new trick.or two, as I did, but for the most part this book is aimed for those who have never written a book review before but would like to.do so. This book is for that type of reader.

I chose to read this book after receiving a free e-copy from Netgalley. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.

I’ve been writing reviews for seven years, and I started by looking at what others wrote in reviews for several books to try to get the hang of it. I would have really benefited from this book! How to Write a Simple Book Review is for readers who want to give their feedback to the author or other readers.

I have found over the years that authors appreciate reviews more than you can imagine. Most authors also appreciate any negative feedback because they want to know if there is a way they can make their readers happier with their writing. That said, I think it’s important to try to find something positive to say if you can.

How to Write a Simple Book Review explains the different types of reviews and how simple a review can be. Even one word is helpful! Anyone can do that. There is a lot of repetition but that may be helpful to beginners.

If you’ve been wondering what you can do to let an author know how you feel about their book, write a review! If you don’t have any idea how to do that, this book will explain it well, and you’ll know exactly how to write one.

This short, little book lifted the cloud of fear that I had about giving a less than 5-star rating, even on books I didn't like. It has tips on writing honestly about what you do or do not like without trashing the author or the book. A must read for anyone that feels they need to improve their reviews. I received this book from Net Galley for an honest review.

I liked this book a lot! I have been writing reviews for many years but I wasn't
sure I was writing enough. Reading this book, I found that just was not true. The writer does not
expect readers to write a book report. To be honest, I never read those. I do not trust other
readers to avoid a spoiler that would destroy the book for others, even accidentally.
The book is written very well.

Thank you, NetGalley, Allyson Abbott, and the publisher for giving me the chance to read
and rate this book.

A little too simple for me. Either that or the information got past me. I am not sure this is the best primer for writing book reviews.

This is a quick read on things to consider to help you write a book review. This book will show that it is all right to write a short review, if you pay attention to a lot of the reviews on sites like this site, Amazon and others you will see they are simple reviews and that is all right. The author will show you how by answering a few simple questions you can quickly expand your review to a full paragraph. The author will also show how you can write detailed review if that is what you are shooting for. It is my opinion that this is geared for those just starting to write reviews. But you know what they say you can always learn something from everything you do. Give it read. I received a an ARC for a fair an honest review.

I have been reviewing for years so I wasn't expecting any big revelations from How to Write a Simple Book Review, but I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed this "simple" book. While I didn't find the information especially groundbreaking, I can see the importance that novice book reviewers can glean from the background information on book reviewing in general. However, because this information was not new to me I admit I glossed over the first few chapters. Nonetheless, I found the templates to be extremely helpful for all types of reviewers. Still, it is the author's style that is the true standout. Her joy in writing and reading is infectious and her guidance inspiring. However, the cover seems too amateurish and would benefit from a cleaner design. How to Write a Simple Book Review is simply enjoyable for all readers and recommend it for beginner reviewers.
