Okay I am the biggest coho fan but this book was WEIRD. like really weird but I actually ended up loving it.

Here’s what I loved: I love when an author is not afraid to branch out, and she definitely branched out. She left her wonderful romance mixed in but it was very paranormal heavy, which normally is not my thing at all.

Here’s what I didn’t love: the paranormal plot was really unique and unlike anything I’ve heard of before but, much like any ghost story, it came off pretty cheesy sometimes. (The hair part, IYKYK)

Overall if you are a fan of “YOU” On Netflix, I would recommend this book. I really feel like these had the similar vibes because of the male lead, Leeds, but you know, this one has a ghost or two. Leeds had that slightly stalker level obsession with his girlfriend, but was also very self obsessed at the same time?? Overall it made for a really crazy story!

COHO fans, are you going to pick this one up, or skip due to paranormal activity? 🤣

LAYLA hits shelves DECEMBER 8th!!! Thank you #netgalley #layla

Oh my god what have I just read?!!!!
I think this book just proves what an amazing writer Colleen Hoover is. I haven't read many paranormal books and I've only dipped my toe into the world of CoHo but considering this is a genre which she hasn't had much dealing with I think it was brilliantly executed. It was tense and creepy and utterly gripping. I'm left with my mind twirling and my jaw unhinged. What a ride!

This one was wild and crazy but for me slightly predictable. CoHo is my fave author I love everything she writes but this one misses the mark for me. I had troubles connecting with her characters in this one which never happens for me with her books and I found parts just to rushed for me.

This was so unique and fun! I always love Colleen Hoover and this new genre isn’t an exception! I will admit to being upset for a bit with the main character but in true CoHo fashion, she twisted the tale and I was thrilled!

This is not my first CoHo book and I have to say that not every book of hers is a hit for me.

Sadly, this book was a miss. It felt like I knew all about selfish Leeds, but not enough about Layla...or Willow for that matter.

The premise sounded interesting, but in the end was not my cup of tea.

I received this ebook arc in exchange for an honest review from NetGalley and the publisher..

(Sunday, Nov 22 begins reading Layla by Colleen Hoover)

Leeds Gabriel. Why is it always the name of an angel that does me in?

(Sunday night/Monday morning update)
I made the mistake of starting to read before bed. It's now one-thirty in the morning and I've had to force myself to put Layla down. I won't lie, from the very first pages I really like Layla and Leeds, but with the timeline switch happening I am very worried and completely invested with what's to come.

Isn't that the BEST!! I mean... give me a read that makes me feel nervous, excited, and puts my brain on repeat any day of the week!! This is gonna be a good ride. I can feel it! The stage is set.

(Monday, Nov 23rd)
Whelp, I've finished. WOW! Colleen... why didn't you decide to write this genre sooner? What else have you been hiding and plotting for us?

I wish this had released during the spooky season of October, but a little "Nightmare Before Christmas" never hurt nobody!

Fantastic!

BOOK REVIEW: Layla by Colleen Hoover

3 stars

TW: attempted murder, abuse, holding someone against their will.

I have never been so confused about rating and reviewing a book before! Layla is nothing like what I expected. Firstly, it is a paranormal!! Reading the blurb, I had no idea that it was a paranormal book so this was a huge surprise for me that I didn't really want.
The writing of this book is fantastic. It is incredibly gripping and I felt a real connection to the characters, even though I didn't particularly like them, they felt very real to me. There are so many fantastic ideas in this book and the storyline really held my attention. I also did not guess the big twist which rarely happens in books!

Despite all of these positives, I am sad to say I didn't really enjoy the book. I'm not a big reader of creepy paranormal books and so this being sprung on me with no warning wasn't the nicest! There were also a lot of scenes that made me highly uncomfortable and I felt trigger warnings were needed. I can see how good the book is, it just wasn't for me.

Overall, this is the most confused I have ever been about a book! I am incredibly conflicted as I can see that it is a really well written and thought out book, I just sadly didn't enjoy reading it and felt the blurb needed to be more indicative of the actual paranormal storyline.

Please note that I was #gifted this ebook in exchange for an honest review.

After reading a lot of mixed reviews I finally read Layla, and what a surprise!

When Leeds meets Layla, he’s convinced he’ll spend the rest of his life with her—until an unexpected attack leaves Layla fighting for his life. After weeks at the hospital, Layla recovers physically, but the emotional and mental scarring had altered the woman he fell in love with. In order to put their relationship back on track, Leeds whisks Layla away to the bed and breakfast where they met. Once they arrive, Layla’s behaviour takes a bizarre turn. Feeling distant from Layla, Leeds soon find solace in Willow, another guest at the B&B. As his curiosity for Willow grows, his decision to help her find answers puts him in direct conflict with Layla’s well being. He has to make a choice because he can’t help both of them. But the wrong one can be detrimental to all of them.

Wow. I wasn’t expecting this book at all, I had no idea what I was going to read, I just saw the author and knew I had to read it, Layla is a paranormal romance and it blew my mind.
It was unputdownable, intriguing and fantastic. You have to read this.

Thank you Netgalley, Amazon Publishing and Colleen Hoover for giving me a copy of this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Layla releases December 8, 2020.

After reading the book Verity I knew I found a must read author and Colleen Hoover is it! This book is a different genre than Verity, I would put Layla as a paranormal romance with a dash of mystery!
Leeds is playing in a band at a wedding at a Bed And Breakfast, when he’s immediately drawn to a girl dancing on the dance floor, she makes him smile because she’s a horrible dancer. Their immediately drawn to each-other she introduces herself as Layla and it’s her sisters wedding. They develop a connection that Leed has never experienced before. She even goes back to Tennessee with him and moves into his apartment. When a life changing incident happens to Layla their lives are turned upside down and Layla isn’t the same: Leed decides to go back to the where they met the Bed And Breakfast and try to fix what was changed. When he meets a mysterious woman named Willow and she needs his help. He soon realizes helping Willow comes at a price and it may possibly be Layla. Oh my gosh this book pulled at every emotion and the twist hits you with a BANG! Your drawn into the story as Leed tells it to you, I felt that added so much to the story. I’m giving this five stars!

Surprise, Surprise. The Queen has done it again and has come up with something so different from her usual works but also different from any other book I have read to date. The storyline in this book really stood out to me!!

It was a little creepy when first jumping in and I really did not know what to expect. I had so many emotions about Layla and Leeds relationship, I loved them so much and that's why I really started to HATE Leeds and the way he would treat her at times.

Welcome to the double twist. I was not expecting either of them and I was blown away. I was blown away by the ideas of life and the afterlife in this book, a very neat perspective that I enjoyed a lot. It has been awhile since I have been reading a book and have to set it down and look at the wall whispering "what did I just read?!?!" And I must say I love that feeling!

I wish I could live in Colleen Hoover's books forever and this one is no exception, even with the paranormal activity

2.5 stars

A curious tale to start, turning into something I wasn’t expecting (trying to stay spoiler-free here) and then too much of the ridiculous for my taste. Layla and Leeds (Leeds is a city, not a town by the way) met and magnetised in a lust at first sight kind of interaction. I was all eyes and ears for this. What ensued was a quick obsession with one another until tragedy knocked at their door.

Leeds was a musician, song writer and I have to say how much I love when Colleen Hoover writes song lyrics, she really hits the spot with her words through lyrics and I will always relish when I see them in her books. However, I would prefer to see heroes from authors with different occupations. I don’t want to compare to Maybe Someday, for example. Leeds was the narrator in this story and I enjoyed that it came from his POV, even though I didn’t like him at all as a character.

What ensued was me being scared with the paranormal element until things were explained, then I settled into it. The story kept me reading and did provide three good twists but I felt like things weren’t always explained well enough and there was a bit of ‘that’s just how it is’. ‘The interviewer’ exasperated me…and that’s how I felt a bit at the end, exasperated and a bit deflated. It just didn’t work as a story for me but I’m sure many will love it.

I admire Colleen Hoover for turning her hand to different genres but so far, only her romances hit the spot for me. I guess we can’t like them all, it’s that age old thing but I was really buzzing for this one and then disappointed when it didn’t work for me.

Thank you Montlake for the early review copy.

Having read all of Colleen Hoover's books, I was very excited to read her newest one, Layla. At first, I was a little leery only because of the "paranormal romance" genre tag. I am not into paranormal romance or any type of abnormal romance tropes. I like to read romance between one man and one woman. However, I was more than pleasantly surprised with how well done this paranormal romance is. And now I wonder why I even doubted the queen - Colleen Hoover. Everything she has written is pure gold - in my humble opinion.

Leeds, a singer/songwriter meets Layla when his band plays at her sister Aspen's wedding at a beautiful bed and breakfast located in the middle of nowhere, Kansas. He never planned to meet the woman he wants to spend the rest of his days with, but that's what happens. There is no denying the fire that ignites between Leeds and Layla. But then an unexpected attack leaves Layla in the hospital fighting to live and threatens to rip them apart forever. Thought she has mostly recovered physically, the attack has taken a toll on Layla mentally and she isn't the same carefree, joyful girl she used to be. Leeds looks for a way to bring back the spark they once shared, so he books a surprise trip to the bed and breakfast in Kansas where they met, which is now for sale. Leeds could never have prepared for the reaction in Layla's behavior once they arrive, or the bizarre things that keep happening. And then there's Willow, another guest at the hotel, who Leeds feels a strange connection to and wants to help. Torn between Layla and Willow, Leeds will need to make a choice. An impossible choice, it seems. He can't help them both.

The story line of Layla is both unique and captivating. Once I started it, I could not put it down. This is on par with all of CoHo's books. At first, I must admit, I was a little spooked when things started happening in the house where Leeds and Layla were staying. The spookiness and the steamy romance worked very well together, however, to make for a tender and sizzling romance. At first, I was completely clueless about what was really happening in the house. When readers find out what is really going on, it's quite the shocker. Then there is a major twist near the end that throws readers for another loop. These are all good things; trust me!

Leeds and Layla's story has it all - mystery, angst, romance, love, guilt, tragedy, and thrills for days. Are you ready for an amazing story that will keep you on the edge of your seat, biting your nails until the final page? Then, I highly recommend reading Layla.

WOW!!!!!!!! This is a total different genre for Colleen Hoover & in my opinion she knocked it out of the park!!!!! We have Layla & Leeds, a couple who meet & fall headlong in love. Leeds is a musician & Layla starts trying to help him w/his career by trying to up his social media followers. Well that backfires on them & results in a terrible accident. Layla is different after their accident so Leeds gets the idea to take her on a vacation to the bed & breakfast they fell in love at. While there he meets a ghosts, Willow, who is stuck there. Leeds starts developing feelings for Willow & that takes them all on a journey they will never forget. I highly recommend this book. Thank you to Netgalley and Montlake Publishing for my honest review

Let me start off by saying I am not a huge paranormal fan, I tried and tried with no luck. So when the opportunity arose to read and review this newest book by Ms. Hoover, I was cautiously optimistic.

This story, which is the first paranormal romance by Ms. Hoover, took me on a wild ride and I absolutely enjoyed it!

This story of Layla & Leeds. A whirlwind romance, a horrible tragedy and the tale of what comes after.

The flow of this story is fantastic and kept me invested in the characters until the very end.  I went through a myriad of emotions when reading which is a true testament to the talent that Ms. Hoover weaves with her words.

The twists in this story are going to make you gasp and then make the story even more clear.  I would have never guessed the outcome!  Ms. Hoover is able to make the unbelievable believable and I'd like to think that the whole premise of the story could be a possibility!

As I said before, I am not a huge paranormal romance fan, but this story has started to change my way of thinking!

Thank you to Netgalley for giving me the chance to read and review, "Layla" by Colleen Hoover. This was the first book I have read by this author and it won't be my last, The writing is excellent and kept me entertained for most of the story. The story line was so different from anything I have read before, The characters were interesting, even if the amount of characters is small. The ending was abrupt and I went back a few pages to make sure I hadn't missed something. I wish the ending was longer but that's my personal opinion. This is a perfect Fall read. If you are are looking for something completely different than usual books, this book is it.

What in the world?! This was very different from her other books but I really liked it! It kept me hooked the whole time and was fast paced. I love supernatural things so if you enjoy it too, this book is for you.

It breaks my heart to say this BUT… This is not my favorite read from Colleen Hoover 🙈 It’s not a bad book, but I think I was over it before all the good stuff happened. There was a lack of buildup and the character were almost deplorable. I mean I started to HATE Leeds because of his actions. He was falling for.. a ghost? And hurting the person he was supposed to love? I seemed so silly until the plot changed directions. Now, I am glad they changed directions and I LOVE where Colleen took the story however, at that point it was almost too late for me. All the good stuff doesn’t happen until the very end and along the way we have to put up with the horrible actions of the main characters. This left me feeling very indifferent to the story as a whole and unsympathetic when things took a turn.

Don’t get me wrong, this book isn’t bad by any means and I know MANY readers are going to love it for exactly what it is. I, however, wasn’t a fan of the slow-moving plot and concerning actions from the characters. This is certainly unlike anything I’ve read from Colleen before.

That being said, I recommend readers try this one out for themselves because I know it’ll be a hit among the masses. Just because I didn’t care for it as much as I have for her other novels doesn’t mean other readers won’t go crazy for it!

I'm too sick right now to pull punches. Layla bored the living day lights out of me. Leeds was a complete dick and Layla was flat. Both of our MCs were one dimensional characters. I wasn't able to connect to either, due to that I didn't really care about their outcomes.

Willow's the only reason this book is getting 2 stars from me. She intrigued me. She's the reason this book didn't turn into a DNF. While I'm not big on paranormal I found myself wrapped up in her mystery. I wanted her to find her answers. I wanted her to get her HEA.

CoHo is always a hit or miss for me. Regretting You was a HUGE hit while Layla was a HUGE miss.

Probably my new favorite Hoover (which I say every time because she is perfect!)
The supernatural element to this was fabulous and so well-down. Thank you so much for my copy, Netgalley!

I love CoHo, but this one didn't do it for me.

Leeds meets Layla and falls head over heels. After suffering a brain injury, Layla is not herself. Leeds meets Willow, a mysterious woman who can't remember her past. Leeds falls for Willow. He must make a choice between the woman he once loved or the woman he now loves.

Told from Leeds's perspective, I found him to be a self-absorbed a*sshole. I didn't feel like I ever really knew Layla. Willow, well, she was just kind of there. The characters were not fully developed, and the twist was no surprise.

I wanted to love this book, as it offers an interesting premise. However, in the end, it was not for me.

Many readers have Layla, so ignore me, and read it for yourself!

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
