Beth Seymour is the one thing that his harsh new life - but she has a husband and is trapped in an increasingly loveless marriage.

This story is a little bit predictble, but it is still a good read. The characters were well developed and likeable. Jake Tempest has feelings for Beth who is teaching him to read. But Beth is already married. There is a lot going on in the book a we learn about the building of the viaduct.

Elvi Rhodes was one of the first authors that I read as an adult and waited anxiously for the next book to be released. Her books are just as good read 25 years later!

The Mountain by Elvi Rhodes is an interesting book. I have read other books by her but this one surpasses all. I enjoyed it from page one.

So many characters but Jake and Beth are my favourites. Mrs Drake, Sally Roland and Patrick although secondary characters were part of my favourites characters. Let’s not forget about grumpy ill tempered Will. Ugh!

I love how Beth enjoys reading and has a passion for teaching children. I am a teacher and I was impressed by her enthusiasm and eagerness towards knowledge.

This book is fit for a movie! It deserves 5 stars from me.

I enjoyed this book so much. I read it within two days.

Whenever I read a book, I try to find the story behind the book title and I got a perfect plot behind the name “The Mountain“.

I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are mine.

Jake Tempest meets Beth Seymour when he comes to Whernside to work at the construction of the railway lines.
Beth Seymour is married to William, but her relationship with her husband is more and more difficult, and abusive.
Jake tempest is drawn to Beth... She teaches him to read and start a school for the children in her town.
After a series of events they relationship strenghten and a new opportunity come for them to start a new life.

The story is really captivating, there are a lot of things happening in this book... Jake Tempest's life took a turn at Whernside
Beth really do her best in her circumstances to deal with her husband's mood swings...
She has a desire to teach others and could see the talent in her pupils, she is really gifted with children.
