Over the past few months, I have been on a quest to learn about alternative/spiritual types of healing practices. Although I have heard a lot of people talk about Reiki, I never really understood what it was or how it was done. Spiritual Reiki, by Sarah Parker Thomas, was a good introduction to help me understand what happened during a Reiki session, and what to expect should I decide to attend one.

Reiki could be a good alternative for people who do not like people touching them (such as during massage therapy), but still want to receive some type of healing energy therapy for themselves. What I found most interesting was the fact that Reiki can be done with a teacher who is located a distance from you- even virtually! This is especially wonderful for introverts who do not like to go out in public, or for use during pandemics when people should not be out and about spreading germs. This knowledge left me intrigued enough to begin researching how one can be attuned over the internet.

Sarah Thomas did not cover the attunement process in what was otherwise a great introductory book. Depending on what an attunement looks like, I think I may be able to apply some Reiki practices into my teaching, as a tool for students to use when they become anxious or when emotions get to be too much for him/her. Possibly, this could be a way to avoid some problematic behaviors inside the classroom.
This book was well worth my time to read.

Sarah Parker Thomas does a wonderful job at giving you an in depth view of Reiki. It feels like she is talking to you, not at you, making for a great reading experience. She gives you both the health and spiritual side, making it relatable to almost everyone. This was my first introduction to Reiki and I'm excited to further my research.
