I absolutely adore Christina but I just couldn't get into Wrong Alibi. It feels like a different author wrote this book. Which makes me sad. At first I thought it just me being in a book slump but I've tried several times since this book released. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book. I'm sorry I can't provide a review.

DNF @ multiple percentages.

Rating 1 star because NetGalley makes us leave a rating, this is not a reflection on the book itself.

This book is FULL of twists and turns! It's hard to write a review without spoilers, but I was thoroughly engaged throughout the book and found myself with my jaw dropped several times.

I'm not one to show much empathy, but I found it for Evelyn, Evie, Petie, whatever you'd like to call her. When you think things can't get bad enough, the hits keep on hitting in this book.

There is great adventure in this thriller with lots of twists and turns and very strong female characters. I was surprised several plot twists in this book.

I give this book 4/5 stars.

A naïve girl, Evie Jones is framed by a con man for the murder of a woman and her son. She is faced a long prison sentence but manages to avoid it. She now goes by the name Petie and begins a new life but things quickly go wrong when the con man resurfaces and she becomes victim of being his next target.

What a thrilling ride of a book. I really enjoyed all the twists and turns. I was left on the edge of my seat.

If you're looking for a great thriller or mystery, you really can't go wrong with any book written by Christina Dodd. This may not have been my favorite, but it was still a page-turner and a great read.

Evie feels fortunate to have landed a great job with Donald White, but there were so many red flags thrown in front of her, I started to feel that Evie was far too naive for her own good. There were a few times that I wanted to scream at her! And the touch of romance toward the end didn't seem quite right either. But all in all, this was an interesting book and I enjoyed reading it.

As a teenager, Evelyn Jones ran into trouble that landed her in juvie. At eighteen, she’s out and has a chance at making a future for herself. She has a job in Rockin, Alaska with a mysterious man who ends up disappearing and framing her for murder and embezzlement. Convicted for a horrible crime she didn’t commit, an accident frees Evie and sends her on the run. It’s been a decade and Evie’s isolation is about to end. Donald White, the murderer who set her up, has surfaced again and this time Evie is determined to be the hunter, not the hunted. Except someone else is on her tail, someone with vengeance on their mind.

Wrong Alibi is a twisty suspense with a heroine who is easy to root for. Evie has made bad mistakes in the past, yes, but the hand life deals her over and over again sucks and you want to see something good finally come her way. Author Christina Dodd makes her work for it. I have mixed feelings about this story. There are parts that drew me in, but it took a while to get there. I’m a longtime Dodd fan but this story lacked the pull her books usually have for me. It took me about a third of the way in for me to stop putting the book down for months at a time and it wasn’t until halfway through that the story picked up.

Evie is a survivor. She has strength and determination that is easy to admire. She’s haunted by the deaths of the mother and child Donald White killed. She also misses her mother and sister desperately but knows she cannot come out of the small fishing camp where she’s been hiding out for a decade. Until Donald resurfaces and threatens what she holds dear. Evie is determined to see Donald brought to justice, but it isn’t easy.

Zone Jameson is haunted by the death of his wife and son. He’s been isolated for the past decade but now he’s aware that the woman who murdered them – Evelyn Jones – is alive. He’s determined to get his revenge and is on Evie’s tail. What happens next I’ll leave readers to discover but it’s not very surprising.

The quest to bring Donald White to justice and clear Evie’s name is at the center of Wrong Alibi and it works fairly well. It takes a while for things to get going, which was a pity. Once it does, I was engaged. But there are other plot threads that appear at the end of the book and the number of points of view gets a bit crowded. At least one of the minor plots could have been eliminated because it strains credulity even for fiction. I don’t want to spoil the story by going into more detail. Suffice it to say that Wrong Alibi wasn’t quite my cup of tea. It’s slow in beginning, then speeds through character and relationship development in the end. There are a lot of things skipped that could have been built on to make the characters, overall story, and burgeoning romance feel stronger.

Romance is not my genre so this was a DNF for me. I was hoping that the thriller part of the book would redeem it but I could not get passed the romance

When I think of mystery, I think of books just like this one, that gives all the thrills. With a bit of romance! This is a perfect book to snuggle up with on any day.

Wrong place, wrong time. The story of Evie's life. Juvenile detention as a teen. Tries to get her life together to make her mother proud, ut gets mixed up with a terrible man who frame's her for murder and extortion. Conviction followed by fate helping her escape. Then we finally get he story of her revenge. The story was a little choppy, but overall enjoyable. The setting was perfect and set in a remote Alaskan location. Looking forward to the next in this series. Christina Dodd is now an auto buy author for me since I've now read from two different series of hers an deployed her writing.

Edge of your seat, terrifing crime thriller. It was one of those, oh my goodness is this really. happening, but I can totally see it happening kind of story. It wasn't very twisty, but the creativity was more than enough to keep the thriller fan engaged!

DNF - Did not finish. I did not connect with the writing style or plot and will not be finishing this title. Thank you, NetGalley and Publisher for the early copy!

Wrong Alibi by Christina Dodd is the first book in the Murder in Alaska series which has a bit of mystery and suspense mixed with a tad of romance. The story is one that is told by looking back to events in the past as the story takes place.

Evelyn Jones had spent time in juvenile detention as a teenager which came from being in the wrong place at the wrong time so to speak. When released at eighteen Evie had thought she’d found the perfect job to pick herself up but again ended up at the wrong place.

Now Evie goes by the name of Petie and is living her life in hiding at a wilderness camp. Petie has spent her time listening and learning while she waits for the moment her former employer, Donald White, finally surfaces and she can get her revenge.

Wrong Alibi by Christina Dodd was the type of story that seemed to me to get off to a solid start but one that possibly could have used a little work too. Sometimes I felt this one was a little choppy which kind of surprised me from an established author like this as I expected it to flow easily. There were a lot of twists and turns which I did enjoy but overall I just found this one an ok read which makes me wonder if I should continue.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

My Thoughts: The potential for an amazing suspense filled book was all there but it fell flat in a few ways.

The Good, The Bad, And Everything Else: While I honestly didn't enjoy this book as much as I wanted I could be persuaded to read the second book in the series to see where Dodd takes us. The Alaskan setting during the flashback of Petey's first full on dark winter was really interesting and I wished the author would have incorporated that sense of overwhelming fear throughout the book. Petey's past was interesting particularly her escape and 10 years in hiding.

Unfortunately I also found the book to have some issues. The book skips from the present to sudden flashbacks making me confused a bit until I realized where in time the story was happening. I also really didn't like any of the characters. Petey/Evelyn is really TSTL....she was a naïve young woman and we're told she becomes quite the badass but we really don't witness any badassery. She does claim to use her long braid as a cutting whip. I don't think this made her seem more kickass but just weird. The book also tried to be so many things and suffered for it. A romance introduced into the last third of the book was not an asset to the story and just felt wrong considering who they paired Petey up with. We also spent so much time in the past she really didn't feel like an adult to me which made the romance even worse IMO.

In a Nutshell: I'm not sure if I'm willing to give the Murder in Alaska series another try but I definitely will continue to read Dodd.

Evelyn Jones is an eighteen year old who gets hired by a man named Donald White. The job, in Alaska, seems like a fresh start until her boss disappears and leaves behind two murder victims. Evelyn is left with the murder charge, and through a series of miracles ends up in hiding. Then Donald resurfaces and she chooses to come out of hiding and seek justice.

There were really great descriptions of setting and atmosphere in this book. At times you could practically feel the windchill! There were also really great believable characters, some that were very unlikeable!

Christina Dodd never disappoints. WRONG ALIBI is another suspense-filled page-turner. Her characters are real and engaging. And the plot is spot on. This is a one-night read.

Wrong Alibi wasn't quite the gripping thriller the blurb promises. It wasn't bad, but it fell way short of what I expected and hoped for. I did finish it, but the suspension of disbelief required for this story to work was just a bit too much for me. Don't get me wrong, I realize fiction is just that, but I need to at least find some plausibility, some logic. I just feel like too many things relied on chance, and the odds of everything lining up were just too high. As I said, though, I did finish, so it wasn't all bad. I think it could've even stepped up a notch without the romance. It didn't do anything for the story and was just a distraction. I know I'm in the minority here, but it is what it is, and as I said, it wasn't terrible, but it wasn't terribly good either.

Great characters, intriguing plot, but I lost my interest half way through. Honestly I think it was me. I couldn't connect with the protagonist.

I am a fan of this author and have read just about everything she has written and when this one came out I was standing in line (you know what I mean) to get this one and cannot wait to see where it leads next! Evelyn Jones has not had an easy time of it and spent several years in juvie and when released at 18 she leaves with a job that takes her to Rockin, Alaska, (which happens to be where her mother and sister had moved). A TSTL girl who is way out of her element goes to live in a remote area with an older man as his bookkeeper. She figures something is wrong but cannot figure it out and when after a couple weeks he disappears and she is hearing voices from the teddy bear and checks out the basement and finds two dead bodies and just then the police show up, yeah something really is wrong. After she is assumed dead (a miracle in itself) she will spend the next few years gaining knowledge and looking for the man who set her up. What comes about is not only spectacular but the perfect revenge and frightening when you think you don't know who you can trust. I really cannot wait to see where this series goes next!

I love books set in Alaska. Typically there is hot chocolate, snow and love on a cold night
.
This book is not that. This is not a sweet rom com set in an Alaskan wonderland. This is about an 18 year old, Evelyn, who is facing charges of theft, embezzlement and murder.
.
On the run and a new name she sets on a mission to uncover the truth and make the real guilty person pay.
.
Fast paced and set in a brutal background of Alaska this had me rooting for Evelyn.
.
Thank you #NetGalley and #Harlequin for an arc in exchange for an honest review.

I am a sucker for any Dodd - I know its not her historical romance novels that I love. But I simply enjoy the way she writes. Full review to come. Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced reader copy.
