This is book #52 in the In Death series. It’s a great police procedural story. It’s full of action, drama and suspense. I enjoyed it

This was a pretty satisfying installment in the series. Eve investigates a murder that leads to a cult that, umm, bears some similarities to some other well known religions that I won’t name. But where real life involves difficult procedural issues, Eve is able to kick butt in a way that felt pretty good.

As usual, Eve and Roarke are awesome, though I continue to feel like Roarke has the best work/life balance of any billionaire I’ve ever seen. All of the important side characters are here. One thing the Eve Dallas books do so well is show all different kinds of women being friends and working together. Eve is obviously the badass, but Peabody, Mavis, Mira, Nadine, etc., show that you don’t have to fit a certain type to be an amazing woman.

2.5 stars

Sadly, this one wasn't one of my favorites. It reminded me of other books in the series. At times, it also felt like I was reading two different stories, as the story ventured into illegal dealings of the cult. The investigation angle didn't seem as strong as in prior books. This one made me wonder if they're getting to be too many books in the series to keep it going and fresh. It seemed to have more filler material than I am used to reading.

I have previously read books by J.D. Robb and always loved them. Don't really know why I stopped keeping up with the series, probably because I switched to another genre. When I received the opportunity to read Faithless in Death - #52 from Net Galley - it reminded me of what I had missed! I will definitely catch up on the rest of this series - which will definitely take quite a while as I believe her latest book is #62 . I have also read a number of her other books by this author under her other name Nora Roberts and have enjoyed many of those.

J.D. Robb (AKA Nora Roberts) delivers another stellar installment in her wildly acclaimed and totally addicting In Death series starring Lt. Eve Dallas of the NYPD in FAITHLESS IN DEATH and frankly, this book is one that delivers more than even I anticipated. Yes, it has the perquisite murder crime but as the reader gets into the story, the author begins to show the reader how much more is hidden within those first few pages. This is a series that's an autobuy for me. I preorder this author's books the minute they become available for preorder and I reread these books as they are my comfort go to reads when I am not sure what I am in the mood to read. J.D. Robb delivers stories that delve into the minds of killers, characters that fairly brim with life on those pages and become like family to the reader. I can't say how many nights I stayed u p to read into the wee hours of the morning because I couldn't wait to see where the characters will lead me. This is a series that is addicting on all levels for me as a reader and one I regularly recommend to people.

FAITHLESS IN DEATH is by far one of the more intricate and all consuming of a story for a reader like me. It has main characters that have grown within this 50+ series of books in a way the reader can't help but fall in love with. I know I am not the only reader who longs for an autochef and a Roark of their own.

In this book, we meet Gwen Huffman and the secrets she carries unravel the more Eve and the gang look into her background and past. Add in a cult disguised as a church, more victims that pop up and a bigger crime that blows the lid off more than even Eve ever thought. This is a story full of twists and turns and a few red herrings that even I, as a reader, fell for immediately. With each book in the series, this is an author who knows their characters intimately, lets them run with the story and delivers a tour de force with each book they write. The way this author tells a story is masterful and one I love to read. Ms. Robb is a true master in her craft and one I admire immensely. With each page in FAITHLESS IN DEATH, the author draws her readers in, giving them glimpses of the main players before springing a twist on them that has them scrambling to the point of falling off the couch just in surprise. I can't help but fall in love with this series books each and every time one comes out. With each new release I always think 'there's no way they can top the last book', and then they do.

FAITHLESS IN DEATH is an intricate story that is told in such a way by the author that the reader can not help but fall into the story, losing track of time as they flip the pages to see what happens next, to see where the clues will lead Eve and the gang even as they get closer to the killer(s) and solving the crime. As with all of this author's book, FAITHLESS IN DEATH delivers an ending that will satisfy you, the reader and make you want to reread this book again just to experience it all again.

If you haven't tried one of J.D. Robb's books before I do highly recommend starting with Naked In Death (Book 1) as it sets up the series and the main players in the series and I bet you that you'd fall in love with the series as well like millions of readers have done. I know I am not the only on who wants to see where this author goes next for the series because at 50+ books, the skies the limit on it.

I was hooked from the first page—Faithless in Death is everything I love about the Eve Dallas series and then some. This one felt especially sharp, layered, and relevant, weaving together a chilling murder with a deeper, darker conspiracy that had me turning pages late into the night (and maybe ignoring a few responsibilities).
Eve is in top form here—relentless, intuitive, and just the right mix of tough and tender. Watching her peel back the layers of lies surrounding Gwen Huffman was like watching a master sculptor at work (fitting, given the victim's profession). The setup screams "crime of passion," but nothing is ever that simple in Eve's world. The more she digs, the more tangled and twisted the truth becomes.
Roarke, as always, is the perfect counterpart—suave, tech-savvy, and unwavering in his support. Their relationship is one of my favourite parts of the series, and it just keeps getting better. The banter, the unspoken understanding, the way they tackle both murder and marriage—it all feels so real and earned.
And let's talk about the conspiracy. I didn't see it coming. What starts as a high-society murder blooms into something much more sinister and disturbing, with cultish undertones that add a haunting edge. By the time the FBI shows up, the stakes have soared, and Eve is right in the thick of it, doing what she does best—cutting through the noise, chasing justice, and refusing to back down.
This book is brilliant, intense, and emotionally satisfying in all the right ways. If you're a fan of gripping crime fiction with a fierce heroine at the helm, Faithless in Death delivers the goods and then some.

J.D. Robb delivers again. I always get so excited to be able to jump back into the world of Eve and Roarke. Faithless in Death was another fun ride, a case that kept me guessing and the personal developments that keep me emotionally invested. Can’t wait to read the next one!

WOW! Does this ring a bell with the current backward slide for women, racialism and gay rights. This story hits close to home these days. Eve and the gang take on more than a whodunnit and pull out all the stops in this thriller. It is great in both audio and hard copy. A definite addition to your TBR list..

What a book! Although I read this before and I remember it being jarring, it hit a little differently this time. And this time my daughter is at the age where she would have been a recruit... And nothing causes you more fear or trepidation then imagining your children in harm. Many times as I read this, I cannot wrap my head around not only the leadership of cults but also of the followers. Why? I just can't wrap my head around that. As always, I loved watching Eve and the team presses the investigation and seeing how her mind works and how the case clicks together. There were a few times during this book where I thought that there was a bit of a leap, but nothing overwhelmingly off kilter that caused me to not want to engage. I especially loved rereading Mavis's house buying excursion and how they've created their own family.

I thought I knew where this book was going when I started it. But I was so wrong. Plenty of twists and turns, quite the ride. The characters seem real, the crimes feel real. I had read an autobiography that described similar circumstances. This was my third JD Robb book and I am totally hooked.can’t wait to get my hands on the next one.

Disclosure: A review copy of this book was sent to me by the publisher . All of the above opinions are my own

I'm always happy to return to the world of In Death and this was no exception. These characters will always keep me coming back for more. I loved the compound, the descriptions, and the faceoff. This one is one of my favorites and I'll continue re-reading it.

Of the three J D Robb books if just finished reading Faithless in Death is my favorite! There is plenty of action, a twisty plot and continued character development all capped by a satisfying conclusion. I really enjoy that Roarke is getting to use his skills legally and Eve is beginning to show her love for him in public.

Thanks to Netgalley, St Martin’s Press, and the author for this ebook to read. All opinions are my own.

What a great read. It was spell binding and a real page turner. A story ripped out of the headlines.

I am a big JD Robb fan and I just finished a reread of Faithless in Death. As I remembered, it was a great book.

Ruh-roh, Raggy...the Moonlighting Syndrome is bitin' hard. Eve and Roarke are gettin' a bit stale. The cultist who seems normal as a victim kept me trying to stay engaged, since I'm all about bashing on cults.

Among people like me, not deeply invested in the series, Roarke takes a lot of brickbats for being Too Much: too rich, too pretty, too cultured, too talented. Unfair, say I. Roarke is a bigger version of what someone not worn down by wage slavery, tired out by not-optional Life stuff could be. He's the poster child for a post-scarcity lifestyle I want to see come true.

I am really enjoying the Eve Dallas book series, with the futuristic vibe and complex mysteries. I'm glad to review this complementary book copy from NetGalley - I do love this series! This installment starts with a single murder whose investigation wades into a sea of lies and deceit, eventually tying into a larger conspiracy. The original crime is eventually overshadowed by much more far-reaching crimes. Dallas has a knack for seeing thru the lies and reading a crime scene - like it is her special power. With each secret uncovered, you feel a rush - a rush to get to the next clue or step, and a rush of excitement as the scope expands and the danger builds. This puzzle had a lot of moving parts, and it finally came together at the end like a choreographed dance. The characters are memorable and the crimes intricate - a riveting read!

Too liberal for my taste, but I guess authors need to go there to sell books. BTW Dallas made a promise to find out about someone’s missing brother. Guess she forgot while taking her victory lap.

It was a complex storyline with good police procedurals, just too political for my taste.

One of Robb’s better instalments of the last couple years for Dallas and crew. A complex religion (cult) that has gotten too egocentric and believes they need to ‘cure’ the world of things like: mixed race, homosexuality, and more.
Initially I was super mad about how the LGBTQ+ community was portrayed here. However it has been pointed out to me that the point of the book is really to show how ridiculous it is for anyone to believe the statements made by this cult. I still feel it might have been nice to have characters come out and condemn it all; but their disgust and inherent hate of the cult is maybe good enough… I dunno…
It’s like if my parents (baby boomers) were to try and be supportive of the LGBTQ+ community because they know they should based on societal pressure (true story). Even though most of their lives (and still today) they do have a conflict with others being gay/queer for some people (especially their own children, myself included). Far enough away the issue is okay as it’s not affecting them; but close up its uncomfortable as they just don’t wish to deal with it. They don’t outwardly condemn it but they don’t really support it either. Like a begrudging acceptance…
Does that make sense?

Anyhow, I think it’s permissible here. I just need to remember a few things when I read Robb books, including: they are guilty pleasures, Robb is my mothers age and so likely holds many of the same tenants, and they are written quick to appease the masses (not to truly tell or relate a poignant story). No one’s life or opinion is going to change based on Robb’s books and that’s okay. They aren’t harmful per say so I will back away slowly; while still knowing I’ll read the next in this super long series (because let’s face it they are easy and a great break for my mind).

Thank you St. Martin's Press for the ARC!

This was a heavy and dark read, for sure! That’s to be expected with cults and all the messed up things that come along with them. This story was interesting and the characters are great. The side characters in particular stand out to me!
