On one short month, Amy Webber will marry Richard in a backyard wedding. The death of an art dealer at a party ingites Amy's natural curiosity as there are too many undercurrents of past betrayals combined with an inordinate number of people investigating various other people for misdeeds, including her brother who seems to have some secret role in some government agency. It all gets straightened out in the end after we have been borne along for an entertaining ride. I had forgotten how much I enjoy this series, and I will be catching up on the ones missed.

A Deadly Edition is the fifth in the Blue Ridge Library series, and this is one of those times I felt I actually missed out on some of the enjoyment of this book by not knowing all the background of the characters It has many elements I enjoy in a story; a small and interesting group of characters, interesting setting, and the background of books and libraries!

Amy and Richard are engaged and family and friends have gathered to wish them well, when a body is discovered, and the mystery begins. This story was a bit more convulsive than I was expecting, but it was an enjoyable mystery. Fans of the series will be delighted, I am sure.

I am curious about the series but i would advise starting at the beginning if you're a new reader, like me.

I really enjoyed this book. I like the idea of a librarian helping out the police. I enjoyed the writer's style. It ebbed and flowed beautifully.

The theme of the wedding and the folk music. I really enjoyed that to. Amy and her family are all wonderful characters. I love how close knit they all are.

Richard is very sweet and I enjoyed Kurt too. Even though he's kind of like the anti hero, I really thought he had a big personality.

I really enjoyed this book a lot. This is my first Victoria Gilbert book and I do believe I will be going back to reading the beginning of this series.

I highly recommend.

Thanks to Net Galley, the publishers, and the author for the opportunity to read and review this book. All opinions are my own and completely honest.

Amy and Richard are soon to be married, but at a party to celebrate their soon to be wedding an art dealer is found murdered.

Amy has to get things settled before her wedding, so with the help of her friend Sunny, she starts to snoop. Of course the mystery is solved and the wedding takes place.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Crooked Lane Books for the opportunity to read and review this series.

This is the fifth installment of the Blue Ridge Library Mystery Series. This is not one of my favorite cozy series, but it’s not my least favorite either. This series has always just been middle of the road for me. The characters are nice enough but not to the point that I connect with them to the point that I am pre-ordering next copies and I find that it is hard for me to invest myself in the mystery.

This book finds Amy and Richard just weeks from their wedding. And of course, no wedding or wedding related party, can go off without a hitch. From there, the plot became a little convoluted and I found myself going back to re-read passages to try to keep everything straight. The ending, with the wedding of Amy and Richard wrapped that book up in a nice little bow.

I will probably continue on with this series.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in return for an honest review.

In the fifth Blue Ridge Library Mystery, we find local library director, Amy Webber, planning her wedding to dancer and professor, Richard Muir. At a party hosted by Kurt Kendrick, Amy, Richard, and many of their family and friends were happily engaged in eating, drinking and chatting, when a stranger arrives to see Kurt. It seems they are both interested in acquiring a rare illustrated book. When Amy and Richard discover the body of art dealer Oscar Selvaggio, later that evening in a shed, Kurt becomes the main suspect. Amy wants the killer caught and Kurt’s name cleared before her wedding so she enlists the help of her BFF and new Taylorsford mayor, Sunshine “Sunny” Fields, along with her Aunt Lydia to find who killed the art dealer and why. Once again, Amy and Richard are embroiled in a murder investigation and with their wedding only a few weeks away, they didn’t need the distraction that hunting for a killer would bring.

The usual characters are all here and we meet Scott, Amy's brother who seems to be more than just a government IT guy. As more bad guys show up (spies, art dealers) the suspect pools grows. This is a series where local law enforcement, Brad, calls for help in researching things pertaining to the crime. Amy's friend Sunny and Aunt Lydia help out as she researches the art dealer and other pertinent information. I enjoyed this story, but it was quite complex with a lot of players and interactions and history. At times I was a little confused and had no idea how the author was going to bring everything she set up together. With Amy being in danger, there was a chance the wedding might not happen at all. I shouldn't have worried as Victoria Gilbert does a good job bringing everything together with a great climax and some aha moments. Overall, this is a great addition to the series with interesting characters, suspense, danger, and mystery. I did love the ending as Amy and Richard did get married and the wedding was beautiful and joyous. I am ready to see what comes next for Amy, Richard and the rest of the town.

This was a fun cozy! I really liked the main character, though the rest of the cast was a little hard to keep straight, there were many characters and a lot had similar names. The romance was very cute as well,

I enjoyed this cozy mystery with all of the characters. The main character was Amy Webber.

Amy Webber is a library director.
She and her fiance are planning their wedding. During their celebration party they find a body in the shed. It is quite a surprise that they both found yet another dead body.

This was a fun story to read. It has action and suspense throughout it. It was fun trying to guess who kill the art dealer.

I received a complimentary copy via Netgalley. This is my honest unbiased opinions.

Another great installment in the Blue Ridge Library Mysteries series. This series has great characters that I enjoy learning more about in each book and the mystery is always good too. In this book, Amy's parents and her brother are in town for her engagement party and wedding. Richard's parents are also in town for the big event. The mystery was complex with many twists and turns that kept me wondering. I really enjoy this series and how the characters have grown over the series.

I received a complimentary copy of this ebook from the publisher through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

A Deadly Edition

by Victoria Gilbert

Although A Deadly Edition is plot driven, the importance of the characters should not be understated. Some of these characters are regulars from the previous three books in the series, but author Victoria Gilbert handily reintroduces each one. There are also a number of new characters who converge on Taylorsford for the much anticipated garden wedding of Amy Webber, the town’s head librarian, and Richer Muir, a dance instructor at Clarion University.

We dive into the seamy side of the upper crust with those who make their fortunes from the sales of art and books with a few frauds and forgeries thrown in. These same collectors and dealers could have ties to the even more dangerous world of drugs.

A murder precipitates Amy’s investigation that she hangs on to like a pit bull, hardly having time for her wedding preparations. As a consummate researcher, she uncovers motives for a number of people. Some are close to her, making her inquiries more painful. She is, for the most part, upfront with Brad, Chief Deputy, who both warns her for her own safety and appreciates her contributions.

A Deadly Edition has a strong plot with lots of threads. We follow Amy’s investigation and reasoning as she works through the many red herrings thrown in. The surprising climax has action, and then the book closes with a kinder and gentler focus on family and friends.

I had one irritation with the book. There were twelve instances of various characters responding to another with a light-hearted salute—usually called “mock salute,” but sometimes employing other adjectives. Seven different characters use the little salute so it isn’t one character’s trademark gesture. This repetition was definitely a minor annoyance; other readers might not even notice it. It certainly does not affect my recommendation of this quite involved cozy mystery.

I would like to extend my thanks to Netgalley and to Crooked Lane Books for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Rating: 5/5

Category: Mystery

Notes: #4 in the Blue Ridge Library Mystery Series, but would be fine as a standalone.

Publication: December 8, 2020—Crooked Lane Books

Memorable Lines:

Sometimes chocolate is the only thing standing between me and murder.

I needed to find a way to untangle the sticky threads of coincidence that seemed to be entrapping the truth.

“And one thing I’ve learned, after all these years, is that there are many kinds of love. Not all of them end in marriage, or are even romantic, but all can mean quite a lot. Or at least”—he released my hand and sat back, his focus shifting to the stage—“enough.”

A Deadly Edition is another amazing installment in the Blue Ridge Library Mystery series! We meet up again with everyone as they’re planning Amy and Richard’s upcoming wedding. But when an uninvited guest winds up dead at their celebration party, Amy finds herself involved in yet another murder mystery!

I really enjoyed this installment! I really love the relationship between Amy and Richard, and I was so excited to read about their wedding. I’ve also grown fond of all the characters in Taylorsford! I will say that this mystery was a bit predictable. I guessed the ending about halfway through. It seemed very obvious, actually. But nonetheless, I love the characters and the town, so it was still an enjoyable read for me!

Richard and Amy are finally are getting married. Unfortunately, when a dead body shows up at their engagement party, several of the family and friends are suspected of murder. Amy must find out what actually happened before someone she cares about is arrested.

I enjoyed coming back to visit with Amy and her friends and family. I was able to just jump back into the story with no problem. For some reason, though, I just didn't connect with this one as I have in previous books in the series. I think it might have been because I waited so long in between reading them. I am excited to see what's next in the series though!

Amy Webber has a few short weeks until her wedding to Richard Muir but it doesn't seem like smooth sailing because an uninvited guest at their engagement party is found murdered. While they are busy doing their jobs, handling the final wedding arrangements, fittings and such, Amy is also trying to find out if the murder was related to Richard's friend Kurt Kendrick or even her brother, Scott, who is visiting until the wedding. Things get pretty scary when Scott disappears so Amy moves forward juggling everything to solve the murder and have the perfect wedding.

The characters seem to have stagnated a bit in this one - hopefully the wedding will get them moving forward in the future.

I really enjoyed reading A Deadly Edition by Victoria Gilbert. Even though it's the 5th in the Blue Ridge Library mystery series, the writing is still just as great. The author delivers on further developing characters that long-time readers of the series have come to know and love. The main characters Amy, Richard, and Aunt Lydia are entertaining. Also, each book gives us something new to learn about the character of Kurt Kendrick. The murder mystery was well-crafted. I was left guessing until the very end. I can't wait to see what happens next for all of the characters.

This is another entertaining book in the series. The characters are likable, Amy is smart and observant. The mystery is full of twists and turnstone keep the reader turning the pages. The wedding was wonderful especially for the cozy fan who enjoy a bit of romance.

All thoughts and opinions are my own, and in no way have I been influenced by anyone.

It's almost time for Taylorsford library director Amy Webber's wedding. Everyone's having a wonderful time at the engagement party hosted by Kurt Kendrick on his estate..... until Amy and her fiancé Richard discover the body of art dealer Oscar Selvaggio in back of the mansion.
Selvaggio and Kendrick had been in a heated battle to purchase a rare book, so Kurt is the first suspect. Amy knows that Kurt didn't do it so she uses her research skills to find the guilty party.

Although I had mixed feelings about the first book I read in this Blue Ridge Library mystery series, it was pleasant enough that I read this one. Amy and Richard are preparing for their upcoming nuptials and happiness abounds, until someone is killed at their wedding shower. Amy's brother Scott has come home for the wedding, but his mysterious job is somehow intertwined with Kurt Kendrick, whose own background holds many secrets and possible crimes only thinly masked by his outwardly convivial appearance. The mystery centers around a rare illustrated volume with a murky provenance that people are willing to kill for. As in the last novel, some of Amy's habits were very annoying to me, but I greatly appreciate that Scott's homosexuality and Jessica's asexuality are not utilized for shock or preaching; its just part of them (although I cannot imagine telling a complete stranger at our first meeting anything about my sexual orientation or habits or lack thereof, as Jessica does). I was puzzled by reference to some photographs; I read this galley on my Kindle, so I searched on both 'photographs' and 'Honor' and couldn't find anything pertinent to this plot device. A pleasant enough read, certainly not brain taxing, so a good vacation book, with a sappy ending at the wedding.

A Deadly Edition, the 5th book in the Blue Ridge Library series, is a fun yet complex mystery full of surprise twists and turns that keep you guessing until that brief moment just before the end when you go 'aha!' Even though this book is fifth in the series I believe it could be read as a standalone, as the author does mention some of the backstory and ties all of the key characters together very well.

The book begins with Amy Webber and fiance Richard Muir being hosted at the home of long-time friend Kurt Kendrick for a party celebrating their pending marriage. Right away the author introduces some rather suspicious characters and lays the framework for the pending murder, which does happen at the party. Unfortunately, the victim is an associate of Kurt's, an art dealer, who was not invited to the party. Kurt and his associate, Oscar Selvaggio, are both trying to acquire a rare book and, this fact along with Oscar dying at Kurt's house make Kurt a key suspect. Amy of course wants to clear Kurt's name before the wedding so she and best friend and town mayor Sunny begin to investigate. Amy's family is in town for the wedding, including her brother Scott whom they soon discover is more than just a "desk jockey' and is actually a field agent brought to town not for the wedding, but to help capture a criminal who has long evaded justice. Also new to town is Fred Nash, an ex-cop who is helping Hugh, Amy's Aunt Lydia's love interest, investigate Kurt. Unknown to all is that Fred is also involved in the same case as Scott.... phew! Along the way there are many other characters introduced with stories of their own, yet they are all intertwined and it's only when the pieces are put together that you realize who is the mastermind behind the murder. So much to keep track of and a lot of intrigue, which makes for a very engaging and enjoyable mystery!

Even though you get engrossed in the solving of the mystery, the details of the wedding are not lost and are given almost as much importance as the solving of the crime. The details around the wedding preparations and wedding venue itself are so complete that one can easily forget there is a murder to be solved!

This is a great addition to the series and well worth a read even if you've not read the first 4!

Fantastic story in this 5th book in the series. This is one of my favorite cozy mystery series. The main character has a lot of depth. The author has done a great job creating and forming this character. The supporting cast of family and friends are great too. The mystery had me guessing. I loved everything about Amy & Richard's big day! A great read.
