Having just read the prologue and first chapter on 'The Shadows', I can say I will definitely read this book when it's out. The pace is excellent, the hook original and tantalising, the writing style fluid, immersive and strong, the characters well-drawn and complex, and the plot original. The tone is creepy and compelling, and I can't wait to read on and find out what happens.

A dark, intriguing start to what I'm sure will be another cracker from Alex North.

Very excited for July 7th! I read the chapter sampler and The Shadows is off to a good start. I may have to reread The Whisper Man just to put myself in a spooky place. Can't wait!

The Shadows is Alex North’s second novel following the impressive pseudonym-debut: The Whisper Man. This chapter sampler introduces you to the story with the Prologue and Chapter 1. A key character from The Whisper Man is back in The Shadows and the suspense had the same feel for me. I am eager to read the full length novel and this intro is locked and loaded for me when it happens - the sooner, the better! Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this sampler and consider me for the full galley to get my reader review.

A nice start to this sophomore effort from North. His first book The Whisper Man was a smash novel. Looking forward to more.

This is a review of ONE chapter in this crime fiction.

Twenty-Five years ago Charlie Crabtree committed a murder so shocking that it's become attractive to copy cat killers. Charlie was never seen again after the killing.

Detective Amanda Beck has been called to investigate another copy cat killer IS it a copy cat ...or has Charlie returned?

It's really hard to write a relative review based on only one chapter. But the chapter supplied to me was enough to have me scrambling to get the entire book. Beck seems to be at odds with herself. Her father was also in law enforcement and she's having doubts that she can compare with him. Has she lost the desire to catch the bad guys? She may not have a choice except to go head to head with an unknown killer.

Many thanks to the author / Celadon Books / Netgalley for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

The sampler is intriguing. Still waiting om an approval for the full book. It appears that this book may tie into the first book, The Whisper Man. I thoroughly enjoyed Alex North's first book and will hope that his second one lives up to my expectations. I am curious about what the boy in the beginning did or did not do at the playground.

What a great start to a book. I’m such a fan of The Whisper Man and based on the sampler, it looks like The Shadows will love up to it. A flashback to a previous murder and the present where Amanda Beck beginning to investigate a bizarre murder. I can’t wait!

If you loved The Whisper Man then you will this one too and Detective Amanda Beck returns! It is along the same lines of a creepy presence that is hidden. Although this is just a few chapters, it’s certainly a suspenseful and scary page turner! Thank you to Celadon and NetGalley for an ebook copy. This is my honest review.

I really loved The Whisper Man and this next book by Alex North does not disappoint! I think it is cool that the books are linked as well. It was a nice nod to the first book to have the Detective Amanda from Featherbank.

Most of the book takes place in Gritten and the story is split into before and after. The before is when Paul is a kid and friends with James, Charlie, and Billy. They are trying the succeed in lucid dreaming and connecting with each other in dreams. It is fascinating and that part (since it is quite detailed) has actually inspired me to start my own dream journal. They grow apart though, especially when there is a murder in Gritten and Billy and Charlie are guilty. Charlie however disappears and is never seen again.

The after part is 25 years later and there are copycat murders happening. Could it be Charlie, or something else? I don't want to give any spoilers, but it is a good story and has many twists to keep things interesting. I highly recommend it!

The Shadows by Alex North has been one of my most anticipated books of the year, and this first chapter sampler certainly engaged my interest and left me desperate for more. This one promises to deliver, and to not disappoint fans of the author, following the success of Mr North's wildly popular previous novel, The Whisper Man. It remains at the top of my TBR, and I cannot wait to read it in full.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Celadon Books for the opportunity of a sneak peek of this highly anticipated novel.

I was given the chance to read a few chapters of this, therefore my review is not based on the entire book. That said, I’m loving it! I’ve read The Whisper Man and this has the same feel - creepy, creepy. What happened to Charlie Crabtree? Oh my, 25 years ago he committed a murder that’s shocking it led to other copycats. Paul Adams, a classmate, returns to their home town and is brought back to those memories and uncovers the truth. Can’t wait to read the rest! Thanks to Celadon And NetGalley.
