This book is very timely. We are in a time where people expect kindness but everything feels superficial. Learning how to practice deep kindness is a skill that needs to be taught and cultivated. This book is an excellent tool to start that process.

Wow! I've read a few books on kindness this year, but they all left me feeling underwhelmed, and after reading Deep Kindness I know why! Deep Kindness talks about the difficult, challenging kindness that really makes a different in this world. This is exactly what I've been looking for in a book on this subject. The author does an excellent job explaining what "deep kindness" looks like, our obstacles in developing this kindness, and a lot of practical advice for how to make deep kindness part of our lives.

Kindness is a skill, and one that isn't easy. I think this book will be a game changer for a lot of people! I appreciated the author's vulnerability in sharing their journey with kindness.

Author Houston Kraft isn't a fan of what he calls "confetti kindness", that is, the type of kindness that plays out in random acts and encouraging sayings, such as "Throw kindness around like confetti". Not that there's anything wrong with this, he says, but the world needs more. His arguments are convincing, but, as a big fan of confetti kindness, I think we should be encouraging people to do what they can do, where they can do it, even if it falls short of the "deep kindness" Kraft advocates. This book seems to dismissive of the small acts, which are all some people are able to give.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to preview this book.

Deep Kindness by Houston Kraft gets at the heart of what it means to practice kindness in a truly meaningful and life-altering way. We have all seen, or perhaps even shared, the inspirational but oversimplified idea of spreading kindness like confetti. Here, the author encourages us to dig deeper, and to put in the work of making a meaningful difference by introducing the habit of kindness to our everyday lives. After all, kindness truly is our most important resource, and must be tended and nurtured as such.

This is an inspiring read that will certainly motivate you to make a change, large or small, in the spreading of kindness throughout a world that is so desperately in need. 4.5 stars
