I happened upon a T.R. Regan book by accident, and was eager to read more. Crime reporter Sawyer Brooks is a great character, and I can’t wait to see where she ends up next.

This is the second book to feature Sawyer Brooks, following Don't Make a Sound, which I have not read. While I found this did not completely torpedo my ability to follow this second book without having read the first, I think it would have been quite helpful to have read that first book, especially to understand Sawyer's personal issues and the Black Wig ladies. It was a bit confusing to suddenly jump into the head of one of the latter group.

Here, we have Sawyer looking into the disappearance of a young girl after her music lesson at the home of her piano teacher. While the authorities are treating it as a generic disappearance, Sawyer digs around and finds connections to other disappearances. When the bones of a small child are unearthed, the stake get even higher, and it's then a race against time for Sawyer to find the missing girl, with the help of her editor and sister.

I filed this under thriller instead of mystery, because there is no mystery here: we know who took the girl, because the perpetrator gets their own turn in the spotlight, with several chapters from their viewpoint. The only mystery involved here is whether Sawyer and crew will find the girl before she, too, winds up in a shallow grave.

When the narrative suddenly broke into the viewpoint of one of the Black Wigs women, it was a little jarring and a tad confusing. Again, this may be due to me not having read the first book. We also get several scenes of what those women are doing to men who have harmed them. It wasn't until the third time that I realized one of the women was Sawyer's other sister (not the one helping her find the missing girl).

The story was enjoyable enough - there isn't anything hidden from the reader, so what Sawyer knows, we know, and that's a plus for me, as I don't like withheld evidence that prevents readers from connecting the dots to find the ad guy (or in this case, potentially find the missing girl).

I gave this 3.5 stars out of five, and rounded it up to 4, as there were no glaring plot holes. Although there were some scenes that didn't quite ring true, those involved the Black Wig crew and not the main character.

Thanks to Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley for the review copy.

Thank you to Netgalley and Thomas & Mercer books for the early opportunity to read this book. After reading the first book in the series and loving it, I was thrilled to be allowed to read the second book ahead of it’s November release. The story pulled me in quickly and I had a difficult time putting it down. This is the second book in the Sawyer Brooks series. Like the first book, the story centers around Sawyer and her sisters. The author writes about the drive Sawyer and Aria have to find a missing girl. Sawyer believes the disappearance of other missing girls in the area over the last 5-7 years may be related so she interviews the one victim that got away from a kidnapper during the initial attempt. Armed with additional information, Sawyer knows she can find the missing girl. Her other sister, Hannah, is struggling with her own trauma and it is impacting her family. Though some of the material related to abuse and trauma is difficult to contemplate, I really enjoyed the story and cannot wait to read the third book to see how it ends. Highly recommended for readers who love mysteries. I would add, like the first book, this book should have trigger warnings for victims of violence.

I’d like to thank Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Out Of Her Mind’, the second in the Sawyer Brooks series written by T R Ragan, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

The discovery of a young girl’s bones in a wooded area coincides with the abduction of twelve-year-old Riley Addison. When Sawyer Brooks, crime reporter for Sacramento Independent, gets her teeth into a story she won’t let go and on investigating Riley’s disappearance she comes across five girls who’ve gone missing from Sacramento within the last five years. With the help of her sister Aria, Sawyer puts aside her own terrifying past and determines to find Riley and identify the person who’s taken her and the other girls.

T R Ragan is a fantastic writer who never fails to produce another thriller that’s more exciting than the last one. ‘Out Of Her Mind’ continues with Sawyer Brooks discovering evidence that the police have missed, and the ‘The Crew’ who’s intention is to rid the streets of the men who abused them and got away with it. I feel as if I know Sawyer whose character is growing in each novel and I’m really glad she’s eventually overcoming her personal problems. This is a thoroughly entertaining thriller that has bucketloads of action, drama and twists and turns, the final twist bringing a heart-stopping conclusion to an amazing book. I can’t wait for book number three!

The second book in the Sawyer Brooks series, Out of Her Mind, continues the story of three sisters dealing with their trauma in very different ways. After hellish childhoods filled with abuse from their pedophile and abusive parents, Sawyer , Aria and Harper attempt to heal themselves any way they can.

Aria becomes an unstoppable force, obsessively diving into any problem or injustice she sees with single-minded determination. Sawyer uses her position as an investigative reporter hell-bent on uncovering truth to solve crimes against women. And Harper takes her obsessions too far in her quest for revenge.

I love the dynamic of the sisters and how completely raw they are in their everyday lives. The kind of trauma they’ve shared seeps into all parts of their day-to-day decisions. The bigger than life situations they find themselves in seem completely believable, considering what they’ve survived.

This second installment seemed rushed, though. When I looked down and saw that I was at 75% right when we get to full tension, I knew I would be disappointed in how quickly it wrapped up. It felt as though Ragan took the easy way out in order to move things forward.

But I will be back with the sisters when they return. Still rooting for a happy ending for each of them.

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

This is a great follow up to Book 1 of the Sawyer Series. Sawyer Brooks is a crime reporter and has her own secrets. I enjoy her as female lead, she’s strong and determined. TR Ragan has been one of my favourite authors for a while. She first came to my attention when I read her excellent Lizzy Gardner series and I have since also read the Jessie Cole books too. The Sawyer Brooks books are brilliant and this latest edition is no exception. All of TR Ragan’s books have an element of grittiness about them and this one is no exception. Well written with characters you can empathise with - this is a great read.

Edge of your seat thriller. Sawyer Brooks book 2. Out of her mind
T.R. Ragan
Edge of your seat thriller. Sawyer is a reporter for a Sacramento paper. When bones of a young missing girl turn up just when another girl, Reilly disappears off the street Sawyer’s instincts go to work. She’s a great investigative reporter and even when she’s told “not her job” she’s not about to let it go. She “knows” in her gut young Reilly may not have much time. In Sawyer’s research she finds other missing girl reports over the years all within a small radius. Over worked and understaffed the Detective working the disappearance doesn’t have time for Sawyer’s theory’s, proof is all he wants. Reilly the 12 year old who was taken has the fight of her life to survive. At the same time a vigilante group of five women exact revenge on the men who raped them and didn’t pay or didn’t pay near enough.
This book will keep you up! Insanity, murders and revenge play out in the pages.
I so enjoyed this well written book! Thank you NetGalley, T.R. Ragan and publishers Thomas & Mercer for this ARC.

Thank you NetGalley for letting me read this book for my honest review. This book is a second in a series and I didn't realize that when I first started the book. You can read it alone you just won't have all the background from the first book. I did enjoy this book so much that I went back and read the 1st book too. I am looking forward to the third installment of this series. The characters are likable and the plot takes you on a ride. You will want to read this book.

Sawyer Brooks and her sisters are back at it! Crime reporter Brooks looking for a kidnapped girl and following the clues does not lead in a straight line. Ragan drops up back into the lives of the Brooks' sisters as they each follow their path. Sawyer is following her gut to find a young girl kidnapped in an area that seems to have more than its fair share, while her sister and the crew of rape survivors seek justice from the men who took from them. One wrong move and maybe the two paths cross or will they collide?

I am sure I am giving this book a higher rating than it deserves. This is a standard run of the mill thriller but it has two simultaneous plots that both involve the main character, Sawyer, a newspaper reporter, in some way. This journalist likes to solve crimes. One plot revolves around a missing preteen girl and the other plot revolves around a group of women who wear black wigs who are serving vigilante justice on men who have abused and raped them. One of those women is the main character’s sister but she is unaware of it.The plot lines are crazy, unbelievable and clichéd all over the place but for some reason I could not put this book down!! The writing is taut and easy to follow and actually makes sense. You feel in touch with the characters even in the limited space in which they are presented. That’s difficult to do effectively with a cheap thriller. I felt compelled to keep reading it until I knew what happened. That’s very unusual given that this book is pretty much a throwaway beach read in every sense of the word. But it is entertaining!!!! and in actuality I could see these events happening in real life unlike some thrillers. The only thing I would hope in real life is that the place we do a heck of a lot better job than the cops in this book for work basically clueless if not for Sawyer. LOL.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review of the story.

This is a series and the second installment. While you cam read this as a stand alone story, I recommend you read the first book to get a sense of perspective.

Both books in the series are well written psychological thrillers. You will hold your breath as the body count increases and the killer plays cat and mouse with the core group of friends.

This is the second book in the Sawyer Brooks series. I highly recommend you read "Don't Make a Sound" first. I love this new cast of characters, Sawyer, Harper and the female vigilantes keep everything very interesting. Sawyer and her sister have had traumatic childhoods, may not be for the faint of heart as it involves rape and sexual abuse.

Sawyer is now a reporter for the Sacramento Independent and her latest case takes her back to her hometown in search for a missing girl. I am a fan of T. R. Ragan, she pulls you in with each of her series with great character development and I look forward to reading more from these characters.

A big thank you to Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It kept me hooked from the first chapter to the last. However I must admit that I was not aware this was apart of a series, but it read well as a standalone as well.

This is the second book in the series and I am glad I read the first before reading this one. T. R. Ragan is a new favorite and I will be seeking other works by her.
Samantha continues to seek the truth while overcoming her own history, her sister continues her path to justice and Sacramento has some safer neighborhoods!. I like the characters - I like Samantha and her sisters. And I see them growing as characters in this series!

Out of Her Mind hooked me from the beginning and kept me reading way into the night. A whodunit that keeps you guessing, the story follows dogged crime reporter Sawyer Brooks chasing down every lead to find a missing little girl. Sawyer's own life is filled with trauma and pain from being raised by monsters. Along with her two siblings, Sawyer tries to help those who have experienced similar trauma. The case soon takes a turn for the worse when Sawyer's investigation finds a pattern in missing children and the police seem content to take the first suspect who pops up. A women's vigilante group provides another interesting story arc that is running in the background as Sawyer searches for the missing girl. Chasing the truth and finding danger, Sawyer is an awe inspiring character for her strength and goodness and her sisters are interesting characters in their own right. A page turner, the story leaves you wanting more of Sawyer's story. My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy from Netgalley.

This is the second book about Sawyer Brooks. I love TR Ragan books and this was no exception. Super fast paced and not afraid to delve into the darkest corners of humanity.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Thomas & Mercer for an advance copy of Out of Her Mind, the second novel to feature Sacramento based investigative reporter Sawyer Brooks.

Sawyer becomes obsessed with the disappearance of of 12 year old Riley Addison, especially when the bones of a young girl are discovered at the same time. In her mind she links the two events and, on further investigation, several more.

Out of Her Mind will appeal to many readers but it’s not really my kind of novel. I found it didn’t really hold my attention until the final chapters where all the action and excitement take place. This could be because I have not read the preceding novel, but I doubt it as its conclusion and Sawyer’s past history are adequately recapped here. I think it’s due to the shifting voices and perspectives where everything is laid out so there’s no mystery, apart from Riley’s location, to be solved. The perspective changes between Sawyer’s investigation, Riley’s experience and a subplot about the Black Wig Crew, a posse of female vigilantes. This is obviously an ongoing thread which will be resolved, I assume, in a future novel as it is totally superfluous to this novel. No resolution, no real forward momentum it is just there and making a bad point about abused women getting their revenge and self empowering. Please, it’s glorifying a plight I wouldn’t wish on anyone.

I enjoyed the Jessie Cole novels but this is not a series I want to read more of.
