Sometimes you happen to stumble upon a book and it completely blows your mind. That’s what this book did. It was the first book I’ve read by this author and I am AMAZED.

Reporters get a bad rep in most of the books I read so I was really intrigued to see what Sawyer would be like and I loved her. I loved her never ending determination. Her fight for justice and making sure awareness is spread about missing children. I was riveted the entire book. It never lagged or got boring. I was able to finish it in one day. There were a lot of dark and disturbing elements as well which made my heart hurt for Sawyer and everyone else affected.

I also highly enjoyed the vigilante parts as well. It was heartbreaking to see the reasoning behind what they were doing and how their actions were affecting their lives.

I want to reread this book. Such a gripping and powerful story.

Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for this digital arc!

I enjoyed learning about the characters past while trying to unravel the mystery of the missing girl. TR Ragan left me wanting to read more and I will definitely go back and read the first book in this series! Can't wait for the next one to come out!

Huge thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a free digital review copy of this book in exchange for my impartial review.

I really enjoyed this book. I believe it's the first in a series and it's exciting to see where the story leads. There are 2 intertwined main plots going on in this book. One is the case being solved by the protagonist, and the other is a group of female vigilantes dealing with men who are sexual offenders.

It was interesting to see all the parts of the story play out and the author did a great job. There were themes of abuse, PTSD, dealing with life as a survivor, and lots of triggers.

Overall, it was a good and enjoyable read.

First of all, in order to understand "Out of Her Mind", you need to read "Don't Make a Sound" which is the introduction of Sawyer Brook. Sawyer has had such a traumatic childhood that has defined her and caused roadblocks in her life. She struggles with those awful memories in her daily life and does not trust anyone enough to share that part of her life. The majority of her time is spent working as a reporter for the Sacramento Independent. Her determination and intuitiveness help her in solving whatever case comes her way.

In "Out of Her Mind" she is faced with several missing children and the public's disregard in making efforts to find the children. Passion for finding the children consume her, and she pushes her boss and others to help in this matter. In the meantime, she is dealing with her memories that seem to trigger at any moment and makes her feel helpless.

T.R. Ragan is at her finest! Once you start reading her books, it's next to impossible to put the books down. I highly recommend all her books.

I AM INVESTED.

Sawyer, her sisters, the crew, and every other strong kick ass female in these books has firmly taken root in my heart.

This is not your typical thriller/mystery/crime novel. At least to me its not. This is also a story about fighting back and regaining your power. This is a thriller with heart.

This is for the survivors.

This is for those who are struggling to speak but don’t know how to find their voices, let alone use it.

This is for those who feel that they have lost pieces of themselves due to people taking what was never theirs to begin with from them and regaining their sense of self and power.

The females in this story, ranging in a variety of ages, are fierce.

I want to give a special shoutout to Riley Addison, because she was definitely a shining star in this story. She’s only twelve years old, and yet she still managed to show so much strength and resilience and courage despite the horrific and traumatic ordeal she was going through. She was a complete BADASS.

Although I really enjoyed (as difficult as it was to read at times due to the extremely heavy and triggering content, definite trigger warnings!!) the first book in this series, I found that I loved this second installment even more. It’s still a bit emotionally taxing, but definitely not nearly as much as the first one, and I also found it to be more riveting.

This book basically picks up right where it left off in the previous novel, with a new mystery to be solved thrown into the mix of things.

Along with the new crime to be solved, we also see the return of The Crew, aka the female vigilantes, continuing to exact their revenge against the men who have wronged them in the past. While doing so they are still dealing with the reprucussions of their previous mission, both personally and in the media. Further complicating matters, things start to go wrong in other ways. Their identities, which they first attempted to keep hidden, slowly start to become uncovered and revealed. Cracks begin to form, and the more the pressure mounts and builds, the more the group begins to split apart with tensions arising, as they begin to questions both themselves and each other, pondering the rights and wrongs about what they are doing, and how far is too far, despite the scars and trauma they all bear due to what the men they are going after have done to them.

Meanwhile, investigative crime reporter Sawyer throws herself into a new case, the disappearance of a young girl. Her disappearance coincides with the discovery of the remains of what appears to be another young girl, and this leads to a trail of missing cases of several other young girls. Sawyer’s dogged determination and excellent instincts lead her to believe that all of the cases aren’t just merely a coincidence and are most definitely connected.

While tackling the investigation, Sawyer enlists the help of her sister Aria with the case, in order to help her look more into all of the disappearances. It was really nice to see the two sisters bonding and working together to put all of the puzzle pieces of the case into place in order to try to save the life of the current missing girl before it was too late. They both showed such strength and compassion while doing so, especially given everything they had been through in their past, and all of the anxiety that they were still struggling to navigate and work through. Understandably, both were still carrying around a lot of deeply rooted trauma, and were still navigating and trying their best to cope and come to terms with their past from the house of horrors and all that they had endured and all of the new revelations and fresh grief from things that happened in the first book.

Meanwhile, their oldest sister Harper, was going in the opposite direction, drifting further away from them, hiding secrets, and getting caught up in something that she was hiding both from her husband and sisters. However she was choosing to deal with her trauma and scars was affecting her life to the point that her once solid marriage was currently on the rocks with her husband. What exactly is she up to? While concerned about her, her sisters are also distracted and tied up with their investigation.

Although the subject matter this time around wasn’t nearly as heavy as the first book (which was a relief tbh because that was A LOT and certainly took an extreme emotional toll while I was reading it and I was pretty spent afterwards) this book is still certainly not a light read either, and you still definitely feel for the characters and everything they are going through.

I am personally invested in these characters, and I was rooting for them all the way through. I will continue to root them in the next book, and I am certainly biting my nails in anticipation of what happens next!

And FYI, I know I talk a lot about emotions, but make no mistake, this book is also really entertaining as a crime novel too!

This is a riveting, emotionally driven yet still thrilling crime series that will tug at your heart strings while also making your heart pound at the same time as you flip the pages in anticipation of Sawyer solving the mystery!

I am here for the remainder of this journey with Sawyer, her sister, the crew, and I am definitely ready for book #3!

Highly recommend!

Sawyer and her two sisters spent their childhood dealing with family rape and sexual abuse. Sawyer is now a crime investigator and is back in her hometown searching for a missing child. Warning, this book does contain child sexual abuse

This is book 2 of the Sawyer Brook’s series by T.R. Ragan. I LOVE this book more than book 1. There’s more intensity and intrigue in this one. As a mother some aspects of the story were difficult to digest been that there’s children adduction in it. Ragan develop a very real plot. It’s a story that it’s happening right now all over the US and could happened to anyone. I was on edge the whole time I read this book which I consider to be a most for any good thriller book. The investigation and relationship between sister is stronger in Out of Her Mind. The Black Wigs are more deep on their revenges. Situations get more complicated for them. I really love Ragan writing and her development of this characters. Looking forward to the next book.

This is the second in the Sawyer Brooks series. Sawyer is a journalist with two sisters. She and her sisters were abused as children and are dealing with this in different ways. I had no trouble getting into this book without having read the first book. I do intend to read it now and to check out other books by this author. This is a satisfying, suspenseful crime thriller. Young girls between 10-12 years old are being taken. The latest abduction of Riley Addison grips Sawyer, and she is determined to find the girl. Riley's plight is well-developed, and I found myself emotionally connected to her plight. Another plot line involves a vigilante group exacting revenge on men who have abused them. This plot is not concluded in this book--at least I hope it wasn't. I am eager to read the next book in the series when it comes out to see how that plot may play out .

Thank You NetGalley, Publisher and T.R. Ragan!

Crime reporter Sawyer Brooks still grieves for the family she and her two sisters never had. Raised in a house of horrors, they continue to fight through the trauma—releasing their rage by seeking justice for those who are just as vulnerable as they were.

When a little girl’s bones are unearthed in Sacramento’s Land Park and twelve-year-old Riley Addison disappears, solving these cases becomes an obsession for Sawyer—one that puts her job at risk. Yet she can’t turn back, and the deeper Sawyer’s investigation goes, the darker it gets. A psychopath is on the loose and has been trolling Sacramento for years—hiding in plain sight behind a motherly facade.

Yall...... RUN FAST TO GET YOUR HANDS ON THIS BOOK!
I really enjoyed this ARC. It was packed with so much goodness! So much mystery.
I just love the way she writes! And boy can she keep your attention.
It was great!

Sawyer Brooks is one of three sisters, all of whom had a singularly abusive childhood, but she has made a reputation for herself as being a focused investigative crime reporter for the Sacramento Independent. In this issue, her sister Aria joins in the investigation of a missing girl. Riley Addison is around eleven and not a runaway.

In a sub-plot apparently brought forward from Book 1, there is a female vigilante group dubbed the "Black Wigs" operating in the Sacramento area caught on video. The group is targeting men accused of sexual crimes. Unfortunately, they've had a few problems executing their plans that would appear is beginning to cause a serious rift between the five members. Nevertheless, they proceed with the next target.

Sawyer is a damaged protagonist. She has depth, a pit bull when she's doggedly trying to uncover the story, but she has additional issues. Short chapters, each of which ramps up the tension until it becomes stressful. Dialogue is taut and leading. You can't put it down now! Can she find the little girl before it's too late? The antagonist is certifiable. The loose threads she holds are becoming frayed with the little girl's attitude.

I have to admit--I didn't catch Book 1 of this series, though it's easy enough to read this as a standalone. Of course, I recognized the author (having read and enjoyed two of her Jessie Cole series), but was also attracted by this book's locale--we lived there over forty years. The author's dark writing style will get into your head and twist. Her novels are compelling, tight, well-plotted, and fast-paced. I love strong, independent, and intelligent female protagonists and if I had a quibble, it would be the (trigger warning) abusive background. Still, it's a narrative that doesn't slow, doesn't disappoint, and sets you up for Book 3 of a scheduled trilogy. I must know how those two themes being forwarded will pan out! 4.5/5 stars

I love T.R. Ragan! I've been a fan of her's since her Lizzie Gardner series and this new story line did not disappoint! Her writing style kept me perfectly entertained and on the edge of my seat from the very beginning. I liked the additional, yet intertwining story line of the Black Wigs. It added a different level of suspense but showed the vulnerability of these strong female characters as well. T.R. Ragan is not afraid to push her characters to their limits (& often beyond!) and I appreciate that she isn't afraid to handle tough topics and thrills.

Absolutely love this author! I have yet to read anything by this author that I didn’t enjoy and the newest book to this series did not disappoint! I highly recommend everything this author writes.

After the dark and disturbing revelations and deaths from the first book, investigative reporter Sawyer Brooks throws herself into a missing young girls case. Her dogged determination ends up uncovering other young girls who have gone missing and ends up linking them to the current case.

The female vigilantes are still exacting their revenge against the men who hurt them. In this book we are starting to see cracks forming within the group as some are questioning if what they are doing is the right thing. I am seeing this is going to be a devastating blow when their identities are finally revealed.

The subject matter this time around wasn't as dark as the first book, which part of me was grateful for as that was some tough stuff, but it still had a sick and twisted kidnapper.

Sawyer (along with her sisters) need some major therapy. Her trust and intimacy issues are sabotaging her personal relationship. Hopefully that's worked on in future books.

This is my first read from the author so I didn't realize this book was part of a series. I am sure I've missed some bits of plot and character building. It was great to see strong females throughout the story. Trigger warning for sexual violence and themes of abuse. The book offers a satisfying conclusion but leaves just enough unfinished business to ensure a follow up book.

OOH, I really liked this one, which is the second of a planned trilogy. I'm really bummed I didn't read book 1 first, especially because it has been sitting on my kindle for a few months. Even though I normally don't read a series out of order, I am planning to go back to read book 1. This one was very well written, with several strong female characters. If rape and child abuse bothers you, it might be best to skip this one. There were two different stories throughout the book and both were interesting. In the end, only one was resolved. Of course, the unresolved topic will be explored in the next book. I highly recommend this series and I will definitely be looking for more of this author's work.

This is another pulse-pounding offering from T. R. Ragan. It explores the events in the lives of Sawyer Brooks and her sisters and the search for a missing girl. A true page turner as it reaches a heart stopping climax. The conclusion was perfect. I highly recommend this book.
