This was a great book and well written!
I loved the writing style right from the first few pages. The writing had an eery type of feel to it.
Although Fern’s sensory issues were not really address right in the beginning, you still knew something was off.
I enjoyed the story being told from two different points of view! It definitely ended a lot differently than I had anticipated but in a good way!

Fern (on the spectrum) and Rose are fraternal twins who have relied on each other all their lives, especially after a tragic "accident" during their early teens when a boy they were spending time with died. Rose cannot have children so Fern decides to have a child for her. Thus starts a story which has the reader wondering what is really happening.

I absolutely loved Fern and how she views the world. The relationship between her and Wally (the person she picks to have a baby with) had me hoping for a happy ending. This story would make a good book club read and fantastic movie.

I gobbled this book up in a matter of a few sittings. I have read Sally Hepworth before, so I knew that I enjoyed her style of writing and flow. This story is intriguing right from the get-go, when you learn that beloved sister Fern, is the culprit of a juvenile crime that may have something to do with her sensory disability. Rose, her twin sister is the one consistent protector in her highly predictable life. The story it told between the point of view of Fern, and journal entries from her sister Rose. It tells an enchanting tale of love, loyalty and family betrayal. While I was able to predict most of the surprises, it did not take away from the story, or the beautifully woven characters in it. I highly recommend this book, and feel honored that I received an advanced copy to read ahead of release.

The Good Sister by Sally Hepworth was every bit of good as I thought it would be! Hepworth never disappoints, in my humble opinion. Her books just keep getting better and better. I love books about lies and this book had many deceits within the pages. This novel follows two sisters - Fern and Rose. There is true dysfunction in their family - another component of books that I absolutely eat up. Family dysfunction novels are among the best of the best.
Read this! You won't be disappointed!

The Good Sister starts off slowly - to be perfectly honest, it starts out slowly for the first third of the book. However, if you hang on, the rest of the book will definitely be worth your attention.

Rose and Fern, fraternal twins, grew up with a sociopathic abuser of a mother. Fern, who clearly is autistic (most likely Aspberger's) is protected both in her youth and in her adulthood, by Rose. Fern of course lives a fairly regimented life until she finds out that Rose cannot get pregnant. Fern decides she'll show her love for her sister by having a baby for her. The narrative is provided from the point of view of Rose, via her journal, and Fern, via her simply living her life.

That's the basic storyline, and it doesn't really take off until Fern has to start varying her routine, given that her routine has not thus far allowed her to do things like go and dates and such. We also find out that Rose is not quite the doting and caring sister we think her to be based on the opening of the book.

There's a lot to like in this: it's a psychological thriller, without a doubt, has some good twists, and has one of the main characters afflicted with a condition without taking that character into some weird place, which happens all too often. The writing is good, and there are no major plot holes. If the front end was a tad speedier, I'd give it five stars, but it still is a solid four star read.

Thanks to St, Martin's Press and NetGalley for the review copy.

I absolutely loved The Good Sister. Fern is on the spectrum, and her no-nonsense observations on societal norms make her a likable, accessible character whose fate one can’t help but care about . Her fraternal twin, Rose, is seen primarily through the latter’s journal entries and through Fern’s eyes, which gives her less appeal. Still, I felt I knew both of them pretty well, which made the ending a total surprise.

Rose’s journal provides the slow reveal of a backstory that has significant repercussions in the present, as narrated by Fern. Together, they keep the book moving along and the reader engaged in a story that that’s hard to put down.

This one was so mind bending. @sallyhepworth does a great job twisting these two sisters around each other at every turn. There aren’t a ton of books where the main character has a sensory processing disorder, and I thought this one was really well done. It made me think a lot of vulnerable adults and just how hard it must be to find their caregivers. Such an interesting and scary read, definitely a good slow thriller.

Thank you NetGalley for an ARC of this book. This amazing story starts off slow. About twins, sisters and best friends. But as close as they are, there is something wrong. Fern, who although not stated is autistic and has sensory problems is quite rules by her sister, Rose. Fern thinks that Rose is just looking out for her but things get a bit weird because Rose is protecting her from their sociopathic mother but we soon find out there are ulterior motives behind all that Rose does.

At first you do not understand it, although you see hints here and there. Until Fern becomes pregnant and Rose feels she must protect her even more. But what does protection mean to Rose and what role does her mother play in all this? It isnt until the last few chapters do we see it all start coming together and who actually is the good sister.

Loved the suspense, and unpredictability of this book. The story has you turning pages, feeling sad and sorry at the same time. Put it on your TBR list as it will be out in April 2021. #NetGalley #fivestars

Really enjoyed this latest offering from Sally Hepworth.
I usually write a few sentences about the book to get my brain into gear but the synopsis covered it so well without giving anything away.
Told in the present day interspaced with some of Rose’s earlier journal entries, its a fantastic portrayal of sister relationships, family dynamics, living on the spectrum and personality disorders.
Family drama and a psychological drama together, Sally Hepworth does this well and it really kept me turning the pages.
Highly entertaining.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy to read.

WOW!

That's about all I could say when I first finished this book, lol. This book is very well-written and draws you into the lives of Rose and Fern so well! I absolutely LOVED Fern! I loved the twists and turns of the book, the character growth with Fern, and the ending! (I personally loved this one way more than The Mother-In-Law!!) Can't wait to read more suspenseful dramas from Sally Hepworth!

This book will be released on April 13, 2021. I highly recommend adding it to your Goodreads and TBR!

I was so excited to receive an advance copy of this book. I have read several of Sally Hepworth’s previous novels and loved her writing. This one may be her best! It’s a story of fraternal twin sisters that could not be more different. Emily the grounded responsible one and Fern the mixed up sister with some mental problems. Fern is the most endearing character i have become attached to in a long time. Her sister is having trouble getting pregnant and seems to have the perfect marriage. She has done so much for Fern that Fern decides she can get pregnant and give her baby to Emily. Her sister has always told her she is incapable of taking care of a child. The twists and turns ensue. It;s a rocket fast book and I will be recommending it to all my reader friends. A home run!

This was a great book, had to put down right from the beginning. Told in 2 view points, one from a sister writing mainly in a journal, and the other from her twin sister who suffers from sensory issues and takes things people tell her very literally. From Rose's journal we learn their childhood background and encounters that she vividly remembers happening with her mom. Fern's pov is of things happening in the here and now of her daily life. While the sisters are very close, they still have times when they fight with each other as sisters do. Fern has learned to depend on Rose to protect her because of her disabilities. But, is Rose taking advantage of that? Does she manipulate Fern into doing things she shouldn't do? What you have to do is figure out which one of them is telling the truth...before it's too late.

Sally Hepworth has done it again!!!!

This author has always been good at telling domestic stories and this one did not disappoint!

Fern and Rose....fraternal twins and completely different. They didn’t have the best of a childhood. Rose taking care and looking out for her sister because she has sensory issues and quirks. When Fern finds out Rose can’t have a baby she thinks up a plan to get pregnant. In comes Wally.

Not going to give anything away! But I just absolutely fell in love with Fern and Wally. The first half of the book Not much excitement happens and she builds these relationships with the characters. Told between Rose and Fern’s POV and she builds up to the last half of the book and boy is it a doozy! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟/5

Thank you so much to the publisher and Netgalley for my advanced copy!!

This book held my interest from the very beginning. The author brought out the traits , characteristics and thoughts of the characters so that they seemed very real. It was almost if you knew Rose and Fern personally. Rose would anger me as she doted on Fern keeping her so dependent on her. I felt sorry for Fern because of her fears yet was upset that she would not be more outgoing.
Rose and Fern shared everything - even a horrible secret. A secret that they kept to themselves and did not reveal to anyone. Each sister thinks that she is protecting someone but are they protecting the wrong person?

An exciting thriller that will keep you on edge as you turn each page and find another surprise. Read on and find out that things are not always as they seem!

5⭐️! I really enjoyed The Good Sister by Sally Hepworth! I devoured it in 2 days. First off, the cover is beautiful and caught my eye! I am also a big fan of Sally Hepworth! I loved A Mother’s Promise (another 5⭐️ read in my opinion) - so when I saw she had a new book, I knew I had to check it out. The book description intrigued me, as the book is about twin sisters, their bond, and their secrets.

It’s definitely a story that builds up and develops the characters so well. I loved Fern’s innocence and how she takes everything so literal and how she says what she thinks without a filter! Rose filled the big sister and protector role. It talked about rough times in their childhood and the bond they had to have - it kept me wanting to know more and my heart broke for them at parts of the story.

The two main characters Fern & Rose could not be more different. Rose seemingly has it all together and Fern, with sensory issues, relies heavily on her sister, who is “her person.” Then things of course aren’t as they seem. There were some twists towards the end that took a different direction than I could have imagined and things started falling into place and giving me those “ah-ha” moments!

I look forward to reading more books by this author.

Thanks to Sally Hepworth and NetGalley for providing this ARC in exchange for my honest review!

The Good Sister. Is she and if so, which one is she?

Fraternal twins, Fern and Rose, have a complicated relationship. Told from two different POVs, The Good Sister keeps you guessing just long enough for that awesome reveal. Twisty, turny...throw in a possible unreliable narrator, or two, and it is a perfect thriller.

I could not put this book down. Excellent read. Brilliant character development.

Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with an advanced reader's copy of this book. The following is my honest opinion:

This is the first book that I've read by Sally Hepworth and I wasn't sure what to expect. I was immediately intrigued by the synopsis and couldn't wait to start reading. From that point on, I kept turning pages!

The story centers around twin sisters who couldn't be more different in most aspects, except for one. They both seem to be fiercely protective of one another and therefore share an unbreakable bond. The story is told from two alternating viewpoints. The first is through the diary of Rose. Her entries allow the reader to delve into the past and in many ways the events that shaped the two adult women in the story. The second narrative is from the lens of Fern. On the spectrum, Fern struggles with stimulus sensitivity issues. She cannot tolerate bright lights, loud noises, or unexpected touches. Luckily, Rose has always been there to protect Fern from the things that she finds disruptive. When Fern becomes pregnant, Rose is worried that she won't be capable of caring for the child because Fern did a very bad thing when they were kids.

Hepworth does a great job bringing the characters to life. It's impossible not to love Fern. She has some quirks but once you start looking at the world through her eyes, maybe she's not the strange one after all. It's impossible not to root for Fern. Even knowing the crime she committed, one wants to justify her actions. Likewise, Rose is the sister that deserves to be admired. She has spent her life protecting her twin and watching out for her in all aspects, especially throughout their childhood from their psychologically (and perhaps physically) abusive mother.

It all sounds too good to be true. So, is it? Hepworth weaves a story that leaves you wondering. What lies are the twins telling? Are they both reliable narrators? Just how far is each willing to go to get what they really want?

Great story on many levels. It questions what really makes a good mother? How about a good sister?

While a bit predictable, this book is still an engrossing read that I definitely would recommend to others!
