When I first found this book, I thought to myself, “omg, a graphic novel about a vampire/werewolf romance? YES”. And the cover art was really selling me on the whole vibe of the book. Unfortunately, while the comics are kind of cute, I was pretty disappointed with it.

Serial comic bind-ups are pretty common these days, and I’ve read my fair share of them. I usually really enjoy them for what they are: cute, quick reads. However, this time I struggled with it. The story is, I suppose, trying to be cohesive and follow a timeline. However, I felt the story really lacked the emotional element to make me truly care about what I was reading. But each comic felt disconnected from the last in a way that stunted my reading experience.

The art is cute, if a little simplistic. The grey-scale did suit the story, in that these characters are morally grey and proud of it. Some panels relied on the art for comedy or cuteness rather than dialogue, and sometimes that really, truly worked. There were genuinely some panels that made me smile and amused me. But overall I was left feeling kind of meh about the whole thing. That’s not what Ii was hoping for.

A lot of people seem to love this book, but for me it was incredibly underwhelming. If you like Andersen’s comics, you still might enjoy this. Sadly, I did not enjoy it.

OH man, this was so, so good. Sarah Andersen shows the cute side of romantic love between a vampire and werewolf that is completely unlike anything she has done before. This is a mix of cute and hilarious in the best way possible.

Fangs is a graphical novel about love story between a werewolf and a vampire. They both meet at the bar and start to love one another. The novel plays with the vampire and werewolf stereotypes. A few situations between both of them made me smile. A cute, short and romantic graphic novel.

This book it's funny and a little interesting but I were expecting more.
I thought this book would have more action but it was like reading a children's fiction about vampires and werewolves.

The story did not captivate me enough to finish it. I found it not worth my time, despite of its short length. It was not available for kindle which was a bummer in itself..

Sarah Anderson is probably best known for her slice of life online comics, Sarah's Scribbles, that chronicle life struggles that I very much relate to (check out reviews for two of those collected volumes here and here). Lately, she's been branching out beyond Sarah's Scribbles. Her first was illustrating a graphic novel and her latest, is a limited run web comic series called Fangs. Fangs is coming out as a gorgeously done hardcover book which I've only seen pictures of. In the meantime, I grabbed a digital ARC of this on Netgalley.

I follow Sarah Anderson online and when she announced the new series on her Instagram, I checked it out. I was immediately smitten with this little love story. It's a story about a vampire named Vamp, who prefers dogs, catching the interest of a werewolf named Jessie, and their blossoming love story. Sure, we've had werewolf and vampire love stories before, but what makes this one so stand out is the fact many of the comics are just snippets of a mundane life. The twist is that it's mundane with the vampire or werewolf twist (thus, providing humor). For example, there are many comics of Vamp looking in a mirror getting dressed or putting on makeup but since she's a vampire, it's just the makeup or the clothes. One of my favorite comics with Jessie is when he takes a shower, transforms, and comes out to shake the water out of his fur all over their home. Just a reminder, Fangs, in it's online entirety, is available here.

So why the book? Well, the first thing is the book is just lovely physically (from pictures I've seen online) but the second thing is that there are about 25 new comics in the book that are not online. As someone who has read the series online (as each episode was announced), the added comics slip in quietly and expand on the story that I enjoyed. The new comics fill in gaps, such as "Did they move in together? When did that happen?"

Fangs is a digitally illustrated, black and white comic that uses single, no-frame panels up to six comic panels depending on what's being covered in the "episode" to tell the story. It's quiet, humorous, and adorable. Readers looking for a feel good comic, a romance with no drama, or more supernatural goodness will want to pick up Fangs. Oh, and of course, fans of the artist or the webcomic will want to snap this book up as well.

I've read Sarah's previous comics before and this has the familiar air of short vignettes about relationships and the quirks that come with meeting your person. But the style is totally different! More mature and detailed. the greyscale gives it a sultry vibe perfect for fall. It's dark, humurous, romantic, and so lovely. I felt my heart growing as the characters fell for each other and seriously laughed out loud so many times! I will say it's rather short, but the vignettes do provide a narrative arc and are best rest in order for the first time. I want more!!

It’s a slice of life book where a vampire and a werewolf fall in love. While it was adorable and reminded me of the time when I was obsessed with vampires it doesn’t really have a plot line. I loved the art style and I adored Elsie’s fashion. I wish I could own some of the dresses she was wearing in this book. I love Sarah Anderson's Scribbles and I knew I would like this book as well.

Sarah Andersen's Fangs is undeniably adorable! The illustration is gorgeous and the intriguing characters' romance will keep you hooked. If you love a good dating story that soaks in the getting-to-know stage with a bit of domestic fluff, I think you'll enjoy this. It's the perfect book to lighten one's day! I will surely buy a physical copy.

I highly recommend this graphic novel, and I wish that there will be more to Elsie and Jimmy's romantic adventures.

I cannot express how much I giggled (yes, giggled) and laughed while reading this. The romance was so cute, despite their differences, and I just loved all the characters. I devoured this book as soon as I got it, and I was just so happy with it. If you read a lot of webcomics/graphic novels, I definitely recommend this book, as you defiantly won't be able to stop reading once you've started.

'Fangs' by Sarah Andersen (of Sarah's Scribbles fame) is a collection of comics about a love story between a vampire and a werewolf.

Elsie is a 300 year old vampire. Jimmy is a werewolf. They meet and fall in love and this collection of cartoons shows the funnier side of their relationship. I found out it's never good to throw open the curtains in the morning on your vampire girlfriend. It's also not good to remove your silver rings before holding your werewolf boyfriend's hand.

My hidden goth heart found this book completely charming, as did my hopelessly romantic side. The jokes are a bit silly, but there is a genuineness to the relationship that I didn't expect. Even though these are just snapshots, I found myself loving this couple. The illustrations are different from Sarah Andersen's other work, and I loved them

Fangs is a comic strip compilation from Sarah Andersen, the cartoonist behind Sarah's Scribbles. The central premise of the book is that a vampire and a werewolf are dating. It starts with their meeting, and offers up glimpses of what their relationship is like.

While it was being released as a webcomic Fangs mostly stuck to a one story per strip structure, and there is no story arc to speak of. The relationship between the two lead characters gets more serious as time goes on, but that is more as a means to explore different aspects of what their dynamic might look like than evidence of a conventional story line. Elsie (the vampire) and Jimmy (the werewolf) are likeable people, with a clear chemistry which shines through across the pages. They make a couple couple, and the main drawer of Fangs is seeing how their personalities mesh with one another.

Whether or not Fangs is something to purchase falls down to a couple of simple questions. Do you want to read a slice of life relationship comedy about funny couple situations with a supernatural twist? Are you okay with that being largely unconnected snapshots rather than something more akin to a novel? If the answer to those questions is "yes", then this may be the book to you. If you're still not convinced then read a page or two online, if you find yourself satisfied with just that, then don't get this book. If you find yourself wanting to read more, then go for it.

Fangs is a pleasant book (with a touche of the macabre) about interesting characters being a couple (while also being creatures of the night) . If that's the type of comic which appeals to you, then you might want to check it out.

Fangs is short collection of slice-of-life style comics by Sarah Andersen. I know Andersen through her other series, Sarah’s Scribbles. I was particularly excited to give this one a read because of the paranormal elements—like vampires and werewolves—which are some of my favorite types of characters to read about. I have to say that I enjoyed reading Fangs. I had a lot of fun with this one, and it had a lot of the hallmarks of a good paranormal romance. By that I mean it was quite literally a romance between a vampire and a werewolf. The kind of jokes that came from that set up sometimes had me laughing out loud. So really, what’s not to like?

Fangs was a quick read. Each page was set up in an episodic format, where it had individual stories connected by a common subject to the rest of the collection. The relationship was the focus here. So it was good that I liked the main characters too. Jimmy and Elsie were both fun to read about, and I liked the design of their characters.

What was so great about Fangs was its delivery on characters and themes. It was done with the kind of wit, charm, and humor common to Andersen’s comics. And if you’ve read any of them before—like Sarah’s Scribbles—then you’ll likely like Fangs too.

I loved this so much! Based on the red cover with Elsie in a black batwing dress I thought to myself, “Yes, this seems like something I will like,” and I was absolutely right.

It’s about a 300-year-old vampire Elsie who one day meets a handsome young werewolf named Jimmy and hit it off. And the jokes about vampires and werewolves and all of the cliches are fantastic! I couldn’t stop giggling. Between all the jokes there is heart and romance and coming to terms with parts of themselves and just so much cuteness!

It’s based on a webcomic, so each page is a different snippet of the story but it all flows so well. I really love the simple but evocative and dare I say sexy black and white illustrations. Elsie and Jimmy are adorable together and I love that they build each other up but joke around about being creatures of the night.

Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced review copy.

Fangs by Sarah Andersen

4 stars

This is my second time writing my review because I wrote one right after I finished reading and Goodreads lost it and didn’t post it. Yay. This is a graphic novel collection with webcomics about a vampire and a werewolf falling in love and dating. It was cute, cheesy, and it made me laugh. I really enjoyed this short collection and I liked the panels. The jokes and the puns were so funny and it made for a cute and enjoyable read which was what I needed before a giant hurricane hit my state. I’m glad I read and I would definitely read more about this couple because I love vampires and werewolves. My twelve-year-old self was trash for the paranormal and its still in my veins. I definitely recommend this to webcomic fans and anyone looking for a fun and digestible (lol because one wans to eat you) book about a couple who are supernatural.

Fangs by Sarah Andersen is a SUPER cute, quick read that can be visited time and time again. The graphic novel focuses on the relationship between Jimmy (a werewolf) and Elsie (a vampire). The art style really informs their personalities and the jokes were quite cute. Often, punchlines played off common vampire and werewolf tropes, so putting that into the context of a relationship in the real world not only was funny but slid into the awkwardness of dating, making the whole thing surprisingly relatable!

Definitely a five star read for me and I will be looking out for Andersen’s other work.

Love all of Sarah Andersen's previous works and this holds up to the same standards! Was cute and funny and the art beautifully done! Will be purchasing a physical copy for myself as well as for our library! 10/10 would recommend.

Fangs is a comic about the dating life of a vampire and a werewolf. The book starts off with a meet-cute in a bar (rightly called odditorium) and shows the relationship progress. I liked the small details like the vampire girl dressing up in front of a mirror without being able to see her reflection. I'm mentioning this panel because it is on the cover. I don't want to mention the other details that I loved so that I don't spoil those moments for you.

While most of the scenes are cute and clever, it also shows the struggles of dating a different kind of monster. I enjoyed reading the tropes one would expect from a story featuring vampires and werewolves. Others may find them clichéd.

As a fan of Sarah Anderson's other works which have a simple style of drawing, I expected the art to be similar and was pleasantly surprised. It is still simple, which I think suits this concept, but is an upgrade from the previous ones. This was a light read and brought a smile on my face.

I only found out that Sarah Andersen was publishing another book next month recently. It was on Netgalley, so I immediately dropped everything and set to reading it. I don’t follow the social media too much so most of the comics from Fangs were new to me.

Fangs offers what you’ve come to expect. Short comics which are cute. This book was maybe slightly less relatable considering it deals with the romance of a vampire and a werewolf, but the story underneath all that remains very close to Sarah’s Scribbles.

Expect a lot of bad puns – “what is your type? – uhh – blood type” – which I loved to hate/hated to love and this made for the perfect Friday night light read that I needed.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a free electronic copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

This was one of the most adorable books I have read in a while. A love story of a modern day vampire and a werewolf, "Fangs" by Sarah Andersen delivers the perfect read for a rainy afternoon or a breezy fall day. I loved that Andersen chose to relate this story through a chronological series of episodes, lovely little moments from daily life, rather than one straightforward, comprehensive narrative. For me, it pressed all the right buttons. There were puns and charming dialogue, and this tale has the delightful ability to laugh at itself and the quirks that come from living the life of a monster. I will definitely be purchasing a hard copy of this book when I have the chance.
