Oh nooooooo! I was enjoying myself so much but WTH kind of ending it was!
Why something starting sooooo good, smart, nail bitingly, gut twistingly exciting turns into something frustrating and disappointing!

I've received this book as an ARC and true to my nature, I didn't know anything about the premise or genre of the book. ( Although I could guess according to the name😉)

So, firstly, being an ARC, I encountered a few typos etc which I hope were corrected before publishing. The book is written in first person, present tense, which isn't my most favorite so it took me a while to warm up to it.

Despite that I did enjoy the story as it developed and at a time or two I had to read between squinted eyelids. ( places where in a movie I would have peeked through semi-closed fingers as the creepy bits unfolded🤦‍♀️)
I did feel a bit uneasy at some places ( so much so that I didn't continue last night but left the rest for broad daylight 🤣).
All in all it worked as a psychological thriller and untill the unfolding, I didn't know who the guilty party was, which I liked, because reading a book and figuring it out in the beginning is kind of boring.☺
I do think the ending dragged on a bit but that is just nit-picking.
All in all an easy to read, good story☺

This book made me nervous about my own house! Ha! I loved the fast pace, and the way doubt cast upon everyone in Amber’s life. Carrington made me suspect everyone, which was just fantastic, because I couldn’t ever work out who was responsible for the worst goings-on. Barb was very easy to dislike, although there was a snippet of sympathy for her, but I still enjoyed reading her snippets and trying to figure her out. The twists and turns kept me on my toes, and the ending was brilliant. I did not see that coming.

I enjoyed reading this book and loved the plot. It was a great thrilling read that I brought on vacation!

I finally read this book and my first impression is this - what could happen in an open house? I was thinking all throughout that the story is about that, but upon finishing, it is not about that at all.

Like Amber, I had a lot of suspects. I liked that she was thinking of every possible person who could be the one sabotaging her open house.

Her mother in law is one character that I didn’t like from the start. It could be because of the way her character was written, but I sensed there is something sinister about her.

Divina, the nosy neighbor is a character I liked, though not at the beginning. I liked how she turned out at the end.

All in all, this book is okay with me, though it is confusing at times. The ending is unexpected, but it’s didn’t hit anything for me.

This was a very fun, very well thought thriller and I think this could have been better if I had connected more with the characters. Unfortunately that disconnect often happens in thrillers for me, just because I assume that you are potentially lying to me and so I already am suspicious of everyone! Definitely not talked about enough though - sometimes it's nice to read something that doesn't have so much hype and to find out that it's quite enjoyable.

I did enjoy this book although I found the ending a bit chaotic.
It was a page turner and the ending was not what I expected.

This is a really credible story and that makes it all the more terrifying. Told from different perspectives, this is one of those books you will have to finish before you can do anything else. The pace was excellently managed, resisting the urge to rush but all the while maintaining the tension.

I would describe this book as a page turner - really looked forward to getting back into it each day and enjoyed reading. Story draws you in and is filled with lots of twists and turns along the way - wasn't sure I agreed with the ending but would recommend!

4.5⭐

I was fortunate to receive a copy of this ARC from Avon Books and NetGalley.

I had absolutely no idea where this book was going to go when it started, and certainly couldn't have predicted the ending!

Amber is selling their house after separating but when there is an open house day, someone appears not to leave. There were so many potential suspects - the neighbour, the mother in law, the ex-husband, the new partner, the estate agent, ghosts! The story definitely sped up towards the end and I did find this maybe a bit rushed.

My favourite quote:
"The Waterside Bistro in town. Is it likely to be filled with millennials and noise?" 😂

The Open House is a thriller by Sam Carrington. Amber, a recently separated Mum of two, holds an Open House to attract buyers to her home. After the open day strange things begin to happen in her family home. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my digital copy.

After going through a divorce Amber has to sell her house despite her Mother in Law's resistance. Amber's estate agent arranges an open house, which Amber watches from afar. As she watches people leave she becomes convinced that someone has stayed inside. Despite there being no body there strange things start to happen.
I really enjoyed this story. It quickly sucked me in and I was keen to find out what was behind the mystery surrounding the house. I did find some of the story to be a little far fetched and some of Amber's actions (especially around her boyfriend) were frustrating but none of that detracted from the story. It was an excellent quick read.

Sam Carrington has done it again! The Open House has left me on the edge of my seat wanting more and more! I feel that all of the Sam Carrington books I have read so far, make you not want to put them down and I cannot wait to see what comes next!

Sam Carrington does it again and again! I really loved this book and definitely will not hosting or attending any open houses in my future. The mystery and page turning details were enough to give me a book hangover for sure.

Thank you for the ARC of this book.
I expected something slightly psychological, thriller type but at times this was comedic. I did enjoy the book and the writing and characters but I can't give it 4 stars as it wasn't as I expected. I am therefore giving 3.5
