OMG! What a story! Meg and Gen are sisters out on the town celebrating Gen's freedom from her bad marriage. They eat, they drink, and they talk. Gen even throws her wedding ring over the balcony. Needing some fresh air, she decides to go for a walk. Except, she never comes back. Yep, what happened to Get? Where did she go? How could she have just vanished? Those are the questions that run through your head as you read this suspense-filled drama. Of course, the more you read and the more your start to suspect the people that 'loved' Gen, you can't help but alter your questions - Was Meg involved in Gen's disappearance? What secrets did the two sisters keep from one another? Hmm...so many ideas, thoughts, and questions. I just loved diving into this story!

Courtney Evan Tate has written a terrific mystery thriller about two sisters, a failed marriage, and a disappearance. The characters are annoying, flawed, relatable, and unreliable. The story is chock full of twists and turns. Overall, The Last To See Her is a simple and engaging story that will have you flipping pages and trying to figure out what happened. It's definitely a great read for these chilly winter nights (or in my case, humid and hot South Florida winter nights.)

I would recommend The Last To See Her to fans of Courtney Evan Tate and anyone looking for their next fun read - you will definitely enjoy this book!

This is a story about the ripple effects of betrayal.

I thought this was a well crafted enjoyable read for the most part. There were compelling twists & turns, and the ending took me my surprise.. but, there was one particular character/twist that felt random and distracting, and impacted my overall experience. There’s no way to discuss it further without spoilers, but I think without that character/plot line it would’ve been a 5 star read.

Quick read with a promising story line that just didn’t surprise me enough. Enjoyed the authors writing. Characters were well written and had depth. Though many were unlikeable. There were twists throughout but the ending was predictable and I found there were unanswered questions/plot. Because I enjoyed the writing I’ll plan to read this authors next book. Thank you NetGalley for the review copy.

Wow! This book is full of twists and turns and I loved it all. It was moving along and then BAM, what the hell I had no idea what was going to happen next to Gen.
Gen and Thad's marriage has gone south, she's got proof she cheated and eventually they divorce Gen's sister Meg is always at her side and when she suggests that Gen join her in NYC for a getaway weekend, a plan is in place.
Gen disappears and this is where the story really takes off. The search, a detective named Hawk who does an amazing job of uncovering secrets.
Every character is in this book is hiding secrets, and no one is exactly as they seem.
I loved this book! It's the first I've read from Courtney Evan Tate, but I'll be looking at her back list and waiting for her next book.

The story alternates between Gen and Meg, with the then and now. The writing and storyline were solid. The suspense was unremitting and substantial that it had me glued to every word. There were so many OMGs!! I didn't see that coming throughout the book.

I have a strange relationship with this authors books and I’m not sure why I keep reading them. I always find them to be pretty over the top and ridiculous but there must be something compelling enough about her writing that keeps me coming back. Her books are very Lifetime movie feeling and while I do like to watch those type of movies occasionally, I tend to get annoyed reading books in a similar style. The predictability was the biggest letdown for me, maybe it you’re a newer thriller reader this would work better for you than it did for me.

I really enjoyed this book. I was kept guessing from the beginning and couldn't put it down. This will not be the last book I read from Courtney Evan Tate.

I loved the intrigue in the story as one night, on a midnight walk, a sister disappeared, and it was left to the other to try to find her. My first book, though would not be the last, by author Courtney Evan Tate kept me up, reading late at night, just to know the reason behind the disappearance.

There were a few twists, one really made me gasp… I had a – Noooo… I can’t believe it – moment, then the book moved swiftly on the investigation and truth reveals. The love between both the sisters was genuine, the bond from childhood made was apparent. The author sure made me feel anger and a need for revenge just like the main character did. I could understand her pain and jealousy.

Smooth writing and swift pace, though didn’t really like the cop investigating the case, he was too sloppy, if you ask me. A few moments where story seemed to lose its tautness and reasons was seen, but nothing dampened by curiosity, really.

Overall, the characterization was full-on, where each added a layer to the story. I enjoyed getting to know their raison d’être. Karma sure got them all. Quite entertaining.

The Last to See Her had promise, and I was hoping for a gripping thriller. Unfortunately, it never quite got there. It started out well enough, and with the right twists and development, it could've been great. Instead, it just went bad - eyerollingly bad. With investigators who could give Barney Fife a run for his money and characters unlikeable enough to make it hard to care one way or the other what happened, it became a challenge to even finish this one. It started to feel like a mish-mash of possibilities, like throw everything at us and hope something sticks. Instead, it ended up being choppy and tangled. And repetitive, very repetitive. I don't know, maybe if I could've thrown belief out the window, I would've enjoyed this one more, or maybe this just wasn't the story for me right now. Either way, it did not work for me at all.

As a quick read mystery, this novel succeeds. Even as a semi-believable plot driven story, it does not. There were just too many out-of-character moments where it caused me to shake my head and wonder who would think an investigative cop would act that way or how a PI could miss that. But it was an easy and entertaining read.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC to read and review.

Gen is starting over; she is in the midst of a divorce from her husband and she heads to NYC with her sister Meg, for a girls' weekend. Gen and Meg have a bit to drink and Gen throws her wedding ring off the hotel balcony. Looking for some fresh air, Gen heads out into the city on her own and is never seen again. What unwinds after her disappearance is an investigation that exposes some dark secrets between the sisters and their spouses, until you have no idea what really happened.

This book keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time. Gen disappears into the NYC night quite early in the book and it is surprise after surprise from that point onwards. Gen is a relatable character who is scorned by people she loves. She feels alone in the world and gets carried away when reality and fiction blur; she is a novelist and can get carried away in her storylines. The world has been tough on her and you want to cheer her on. The end is sooo satisfying. I will leave it at that so as not to spoil any of the surprises.

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a mystery / psychological thriller. The character development and plot keep you wrapped up in this book and you won't want to put it down.

Meg has a physicians' convention to attend and asks her sister, Gen, to come along with her in sort of a celebration for Gen's divorce from her serial-cheating husband. Going out for few drinks afterwards leads to a couple of drunken ladies and Gen throwing her 4-carat diamond ring out the hotel window where they're staying.

Later, Gen decides to take a walk, get some fresh air, clear her head. Surprisingly she actually sees her ring and picks it up ... that's the last thing she remembers.

When Gen doesn't return to the hotel by the next morning, Meg reports her as missing.

There begins an investigation ... with Meg as the prime suspect ....

Lies, secrets, betrayals ... between sisters ... between their spouses ... nothing sacred.

What happened to Gen?

Alternating chapters are NOW and BEFORE in each of the sisters' voices. There are enough twists and turns to rival a roller coaster ride on steroids. The characters are deftly drawn, issues and all. A few were anything but likable. I'm a little ambivalent about the ending ... it wasn't all that suspenseful or unexpected.

Many thanks to the author / Harlequin - Mira / Netgalley for the digital copy of this psychological drama. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Really loved this book! However, it's hard to review because I dont want to give anything away..

This is one of those books that you read, put down and say "wow" and then try to find others who have read it so you can talk about it.

I was in a reading slump and started about 5 or 6 books and out them down after a chapter or two. Then i started this one and it got me right out of my slump. Totally engrossed from start to finish.

I was really drawn to this book by both the cover photo and the book description. This kind of thriller is my favorite genre. Unfortunately, I didn't like it as much as I had hoped. The book was well written and the characters were interesting. I also loved the plot. But the ending was just too predictable.

I love a good who-done-it and this one delivered big time. I was kept on my toes until the very end.

A twisted sinister tale about two sisters. OK I’m going to bust out my complement sandwich because I am truly conflicted with this one.

The good(the bread), this was a fast-paced addictive story. Jen has recently left her husband after she caught him cheating on her. she is now in NYC on a girls trip with her sister and BFF Meg. after a night of fine dining and drinking Jen goes out for a walk to get some fresh air and never comes back. Meg is frantic and begins the search for her sister.

The not so good (the meat), there were a lot of plot holes in this book. I really don’t usually notice things like this but there were a few things I just had a hard time overlooking. For example why would it matter if Jen stole someone’s gun in Chicago when she went missing in New York? She could not have brought the gun on the plane. then there were some inconsistencies with journal entries and where the journal was found. There were also quite a few other little things here and there that just did not sit with me very well. Like I have no idea why husband Thad kept a secret he did? And this leads me to some other questions, but I digress.

The good (the bread(, The story held my attention. Also as unlikable as most of the characters were in the story they all were extremely well developed. all in all a good escapist read with some minor flaws.

*** Big thank you to Mira/Harlequin for my gifted copy of this book. All opinions are my own. ***

Two sisters, one a successful surgeon and one a successful romance writer get together in NYC when Meg, the surgeon has a conference and she wants to help Gen, the writer get over her impending divorce from her cheating husband. The first night they go out and have a great time, have a few drinks, send their mother the obligatory drunk photo and then head back to the hotel where Gen defiantly throws her 4 carat wedding ring off the hotel balcony (yes, that hurt me too). Then Gen takes a late evening walk and never comes back.

Are you hooked yet? Because I was interested from the synopsis, and as it went along I thought, hmmm ok this is a bit predictable, that’s too bad… But right about then a bomb dropped that I did NOT see coming and it kept my attention. There were a couple more twists after this one, most of which I figured out and were a bit on the unbelievable side, but I was entertained and right now that’s all I need.

This is told in multiple POVs and in two different timelines, past and present day, with the past helping to peel back the onion a bit on what could be going on / could have happened to Gen. I thought this was wild and it was my first read by the author. I will be reading others by her for sure.

It was nice to read a thriller after a few holiday reads, have you mixed up your genres or are you finishing out the year with holiday books?

Thank you to NetGalley and Mira Books for the e-galley to review. The audiobook for this is great and is narrated by Vivienne Leheny who is quickly becoming a favorite of mine.

I wasn't sure if I was going to like The Last to See Her at first. I was expecting it to be another predictable thriller that I would be able to guess the ending to. I am happy to say that I was way off base in my assumption. I would recommend going into this book reading as little of the synopsis as possible. Basically, Gen is getting a divorce. She is a famous author who goes to NYC with her sister Meg to have a girls' weekend. The first night, she gets drunk and goes for a walk and disappears.

This book was definitely a slow burn, but it is filled with twist and turns in a welled laid out plot. The story is told through multiple points of view waffling between the past and present. The plot kept me engaged and guessing from the beginning. None of the characters are very likable. None of them are very reliable narrators either. Both aspects worked well for the story. I did not guess the ending or any of the twists. I definitely recommend this one if you are in the mood for a good mystery.

I am always on the lookout for a good psychological thriller to sink my literary teeth in, so when this book came on my radar, I jumped at the chance to read it. The story proved to be entertaining and quite the page turner.

In this story we meet Genevieve, a romance author, and Meg a doctor. Two sisters who loved each other dearly. Genevieve is getting a divorce from her cheating husband, Thad. To celebrate her pending freedom, she and her sister went to New York city and had a blast dining and drinking. Upon the return their hotel, Genevieve went for a walk, but never came back.

A book of secrets, lies, betrayal, jealousy, infidelity and revenge. Genevieve’s disappearance opened up a big can of worms.

Despite having some serious plot holes, the twists in the storyline had me clamouring for more. I needed to know how it ended. The author did a good job in keeping me entertained, but the anticlimactic ending left me in a state of disappointment.

On the surface Last to See Her was an intriguing read, but there were aspects of the story which the reader felt needed further development. Without a doubt the main character had serious mental issues, which her family was aware of it, but nothing had been done about it over the years. I saw the reasoning behind Genevieve’s actions, but those of the secondary characters baffled me. Most of the events, which occurred could have been avoided if communication had played a key role. In addition, the incompetence of the private investigator hired by Genevieve added to the whole debacle. I cannot understand how he never uncovered Thad’s secrets during the course of his investigations.

Almost all the characters had secrets, and I found them to be an unreliable bunch. Thad and Meg proved to be the worst of the bunch. Their condescending attitude worked my nerves into a fray. Added to that Meg behaves like a spoilt child. The fact she was lusting after the police Detective working on sister’s case despite claiming to be happily married didn’t place her in a good light.

Conclusion/Recommendation
In spite of the issues highlighted, I still enjoyed the story. Fans of psychological thrillers who have no issues with unrealistic scenes would enjoy what The Last to See Her has to offer.

First I have to say that this book could have easily been a huge 5 star read. It was edge of your seat good. Had all the things you want in a good thriller. Was told in different POVs and kept me turning the pages. The bad part was the overuse of certain words. It got very aggravating to me. The word "mercurial" which means: Subject to sudden or unpredictable changes of mood or mind. After the first few times reading that word I got so sick of it. It really was overused. It just took away from the story after a while. That being said....

This book has it all. It's a clever page turner. It's a rollercoaster of a ride. It's a thriller you don't want to miss. The characters are all flawed yet likable. Even Thad. I loved hating him. I loved hating Meg. That was Gen's husband. Meg her sister. Both did things that in my opinion were unforgivable. I don't care what the circumstances are you just do not do some things. I did see it coming too. It was predictable.

Gen goes missing while in New York with her sister Meg. The hunt begins. The lies stack up. The secrets are unraveled. Who can you trust? Not many it seems. Maybe Meg's husband, Joe. He's about the only one that was honest in this whole story. Gen has problems and no one seems to be able to help. This book has so many things going on. At every chapter it seems a new twist is added. But they all make the ending that much better.

The problem I had with this book was the ending though. If Gen had such problems how did she make it to where she did. How did her mind comprehend to do what she did? I'm afraid that was a bit out there, but it was still a very good story and I guess I expected such an ending. Only a writer after all could come up with that.

There are several side characters that you will meet. They are necessary and mostly very likable. I felt sorry for Jenkins. I felt awful for Detective Nate Hawkins. I felt bad for Jody. This book does give you a lot of feels. It makes you think things are one way and they will be another. Just when you think you have it all figured out something else changes. It's definitely a page turning thrilling edge of your seat book.

Thank you to @NetGalley, #HarlequinMIRA, #CourtneyEvanTate for this ARC. This is my own review as I saw it.
4/5 stars and it could easily have been 5 stars if not for a word.... I recommend this one. Highly!
