Gen is devastated to discover her husband has been cheating on her, so when her sister invites her to come for a visit to get her mind off things it seems like a great idea.

Until she disappears off the face of the Earth.

Did she leave by own accord or is something far more sinister afoot?

As the twists, turns and truths unravel, the tension amps and amps straight to a satisfying conclusion.

Thank you to Courtney Evan Tate, Mira Books, and NetGalley for giving me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Book: The Last to See Her
Author: Courtney Evan Tate
Rating: 4 Out of 5 Stars

I would like to thank the publisher, Mira Books, for providing me with an ARC.

I really enjoyed this thriller and thought it was well done. It’s one of those books that will leave you guessing right up until the very end, which is something that I do enjoy. I’ve been reading a lot of thrillers with a supernatural turn in them, so to read something that very well could happen was great. I liked the sense of realness that this one had. I’ve never been to New York, but it does make you wonder if things like this really do happen out there.

So, what thing am I talking about? Gen and Meg are two sisters, who seem to have it together. However, Gen is going through a divorce and wants a chance to start over. Meg has to go to a convention in New York City and asks Gen to come along. They are going to make it an escape weekend for Gen. Things go really wrong when Gen goes out for a walk one night and never comes back. From there, things get a little crazy. Secrets and ugly truths start to come out. Gen’s job also plays a big role in what is happening; she’s an author. As we go through the book, we get to see just how complex things can be behind closed doors and that we trust the most could end up being the ones who hurt us the most.

I really like thrillers that focus on the family aspect of life. I guess domestic thriller is the term, but I’m not sure if I would actually go as far to call this a domestic thriller. This book uses flashbacks and does so very well. This allows us to get a chance to see what is going on as we hunt for Gen, but also allows us to see the events that got us to this point. The events in the pass are a huge factor. Plus, they are told from Gen’s point of view, while the present is mostly from Meg’s. By doing this, we do get both sides of the story. However, both sisters are hiding information from us, which gives us one of my favourite things in thrillers. You guessed it, the unreliable narrator. I love not knowing for sure who to trust. It’s even better when the author has led you to believe that your narrator is telling you everything.

I love that there are so many moving parts in this book. I liked getting to see everything come somewhat together-although the ending did leave me kind of disappointed. I liked that this was told from the sister’s point of view, but there is some police work. It’s not the sole focus. I liked getting to see how the family deals with these kind of situations. We get to see the emotional tool it takes on the everyday person.

The only reason I gave this a four star was because I wasn’t a huge fan of the way it actually ended. I mean, it did make sense, but I thought it was going to go in a different direction. I’m not upset that I was wrong, but I just felt like the ending was missing something.

Anyway, this book comes out on December 15, 2020-so it’s a little while away.

Hmmm...this was okay. I really liked the beginning. But as it went on, I felt the story started to drag. I’m also usually a fan of past and present alternating chapters, but in this case, it didn’t work for me.

I’m sure this’ll be ironed out more before release, but the errors were distracting too. Meg’s name in place of Gen. Eye colors switching.

I also found the potential romance between Meg and Hawk to be out of place and odd. It felt wrong.

The actual mystery was less interesting too. As the story developed, I ended up with a feeling of disinterest. And a little disappointment too.

Anyway, this could’ve been great, but fell a bit short.

Wow, what a fun, realistic, thriller! This book grabbed me from page one! Was definitely well written, unique, and unputdownable! Twisty, shocking, thrilling, and chilling! A must read for my fellow thrill seekers! I promise you’ll be glued to the pages, but prepare for some whip lash and a hangover, as I promise it’ll be giving both those and more! While, it seems to be a tale done many times over, this was definitely written in a way that showed originality, which kept me guessing! So many under lying themes, have fun figuring them all out!
Will make sure to use low Amazon reviewer number on release date and buzz around platforms!

Well that was a bombshell of a read. There were so many twists and turns and the mystery behind it all was exciting. You could not stop reading. The bread crumbs that were delivered throughout the book finally pieced together. You keep wandering where is Gen? You are torn between did she do this to herself? Did someone she know do it or was it completely random? You are in for a thrilling journey of secrets and betrayal. I loved that we get POV’s from just about all involved in this story. I was not able to pick a side and just had to ride it out and see what happens. In the end though you can understand what Gen went through during this time. It was a satisfying ending, but of course left me questioning some things. You could tell Meg loves her sister, but I honestly couldn’t stand her. She was a lot shady.

I didn't think there was anything special or anything that stood out about this book. But I did have a hard time putting it down so I'm giving it four stars for that fact alone. Once I started reading-- I was hooked!

*The biggest part to remember when you read this book is you will need to realize that some of the things that happen-- are very unbelievable. Or maybe even questionable. And of course that is just my personal opinion.*

I also wouldn't classify this as a "domestic thriller". I have read those types of genres before and I just don't think I can compare The Last to See Her as that type of book. I also want to say that this is one of the few times that I actually LIKE the female main character. A lot of times I have a hard time connecting but with Gen I found myself completely captivated!

I will end with this: the ending was my favorite part. The epilogue gave me goosebumps and I smiled so damn big.

I always love the type of stories Courtney comes up. Whether she's writing as Courtney Cole or Courtney Evan Tate, they're original and creative and keep my pages turning everytime I pick one of them up! The Last to See Her was no different than her others. This book will be a hit with a lot of people.

On a cold night in New York City, Genevieve was out celebrating her divorce with her sister Meghan. After one too many drinks Genevieve throws her ring off the balcony then decides to go for a late evening walk by herself. The next day her sister grows worried when Gen doesn’t return from her walk. After waiting twenty four hours to report her missing Meghan realizes her sister might’ve been taken.
Police question Meg as she was the last to see her. Perturbed by the investigating detectives progress Meghan barges into the police station demanding action.
Meghan was Genevieve’s younger sister. She was married to Joe her high school sweetheart. They had a five year old son.
Thad was Genevieve’s husband. They had no children. His wife was an author who spent her days writing about her characters fictional lives. She was a good doting wife who tried to please her husband. She lived in the fiction-world where she got caught up in her characters lives.
Detective Hawk was assigned the missing persons case. He’s good at his job. He’s a man who goes with his gut instinct. He follows procedure and protocol. Meghan the sister is quite persistent with him. It’s this persistence that allows them to spend time piecing Genevieve’s live together.

Overall:
The hook began from the moment Genevieve went missing. Courtney’s writing style pulled me into the story. She took the reader into Genevieve’s past revealing the secrets about her marriage while also progressing forward in the present with Meghan.

Courtney dropped Easter eggs here and there creating suspicion. She gave the reader just enough to build a connection to these characters but not too much as to give too much away. The execution was ideal for this storyline. The story encompasses more than a missing person it’s about the failed marriage, the cheating, the secrets, and the relationship between sisters. Basically a story about sisterly friendship and love between spouses.

This was a steady read with Courtney bringing mystery and romance into the mix. It was also a character driven story with every character fully developed and essential to the storyline.

“Divorcing a lawyer was the only thing worse than being married to one”

Gen, a romance novelist is about to sign the divorce papers which will dissolve her marriage to her cheating husband, Thad.

She accompanies her sister Meg, a renowned Physician attending a convention in NY, to celebrate.

After a decadent dinner and too much to drink, they return to their hotel suite, where Gen proceeds to throw her very expensive wedding ring off of the hotel balcony.

Needing fresh air after her defiant act, she decides to take a late evening walk alone, and vanishes without a trace.

I would categorize this novel as Domestic Suspense, and the writing was stronger on the “domestic” than the “suspense” aspects of the book.

The author captures the nuances of relationships well, those between sisters, and those between spouses.

On the suspense side, you will have to suspend some disbelief, as to what initially happens, once Gen disappears into the night.

And, I don’t believe the police could demand you remain in NYC because your sister has gone missing, without proof of a crime-nor would the Detective become so chummy with Meg, the sister being investigated, since she was the last to see her...

BUT, I really liked Gen, and sympathized with her as her marriage crumbled, and she began her descent into madness.

Meg, though, often seemed too girlish and immature to be a renowned Doctor to me.

Despite a few flaws with the sometimes simplistic writing, I was completely engaged in the story, and I looked forward to returning to the book whenever I had a chance to sit down to read.

And, I actually really enjoyed how the story ended!

Exciting twists and turns in The Last To See Her by Courtney Evan Tate. The storyline was a bit sad but a good glimpse into lies, deception, and mental anguish. The story is told from the two main characters, sisters Meg and Gen. the first part of the story was a bit slow, but once Gen goes missing, the story and action pick up. I figured out how it would end, but it didn’t detract from my finishing the book. Overall, a fair.y solid story and mystery.

This was such an addictive read.
I was so invested in Gen and Meg- the sisters are having a girls weekend in NYC when suddenly Gen goes missing and Meg is the last person to see her.

This book was so full of shocking twists and turns on every page.
My only complaint is the ex husbands name was Thad- ugh it reminded me of a bad 90s book or show. I hated the name!

A very quick thrilling read!

Thanks to Netgalley for my advanced ebook copy.

Meg and Gen are sisters and each other best friends. Gen is creative and a writer: whereas, Meg is more scientific. She's a surgeon. On a trip to New York City, Gen disappear in the middle of the night.

Meg and Gen might be sisters and best friends, but they both have kept secrets from each other. The characters are real and I dove headfirst into the story. It did start out slow up until Gen goes missing. The story is told through both sister's point of view by chapters. So you get a snippet of each sister's explanation as well as what they are hiding. It's intriguing in the way the story is written. That way the mystery keeps ongoing. I found the most intriguing character was Thad. That was a surprise. However, I don't think his character was complete. There's more to him than what was told in the book. Perhaps because he's a supporting character. The ending was a little muddle to me. I had to re-read the ending and yet there was still a big gap of what the heck just happened, kind of thinking. I can't go into details as it would give away the ending. After reading it, you'll see what I mean. This is a great read. I found a new author that I like.

I am a little conflicted. I found this to be a very engrossing story up until the last few chapters and the epilogue. At that point there were too many unanswered questions.

The Last to See Her by Courtney Evan Tate is a thrilling and addictive read that will have you on the edge of your seat and keep you guessing until the very end.

Gen and her sister Meg are having a girls weekend in New York where Meg is attending a medical conference. Gen is in the process of divorcing her husband, Thad, and is looking to blow off some steam. After an alcohol- fuelled night out, the sisters return to their hotel with emotions running high. After hurling her wedding ring from the balcony, Gen sets out alone to clear her head, and will disappear without a trace, leaving Meg as the last person to see her.

Full of lies, deceptions, twists, and shocking revelations, this is a compulsive read that will not be easily put down. Looking forward to reading much more from this author. 4.5 stars
