Oo y’all doesn’t the title just make you want to read it?! I knew it was going to be a creepy thriller and I was so impressed with it. Definitely read it!

The Last to See Her is a thriller that is truly a family affair. Sisters Gen and Meg have plans to spend one great weekend together in New York. Gen is going through a divorce from a cheating husband, and to her, Meg seems to have it all--the perfect husband, the cutest child, the great career as a doctor. Although Gen is a successful writer, she doesn't have the life that she wants to live, and when the reader finds out why, the book goes through twist after twist to give bad characters their just desserts.

While you do keep reading to wonder what happens next, the book is partly predictable. You see the things coming from a mile away, but what was truly disappointing was how neatly everything was tied in a bow at the end. Everyone seemed to get through cheating, disappearing, disappointment, and other terrible events without being scathed. This makes all of the characters unlikeable, and many readers will wish they all had been given a different ending.

When her sister, Meg, has a medical convention to attend in New York, she invites Gen along. What better way to celebrate being single again that a trip with your sister and an all expenses paid vacation?However, the sisters’ getaway quickly goes awry when a tipsy Gen defiantly throws her 4 carat wedding ring off the hotel room’s balcony. Quickly regretting that decision, she tells her sister she’s stepping out for some fresh air and vanishes without a trace.

The investigation that commences exploits secrets, lies and family betrayal. Secrets so deep that the people involved will do anything to keep them from getting exposed.

The investigation begs the question Who was really the last to see her?

this was a great start to a mystery, I loved the characters and going on this journey with them. I look forward to more from the author,

I started reading this book a few days after I got it so I had forgotten the blurb about it. I realized that it helped me because I went in completely clueless and was hooked pretty quickly. This was impossible to put down. I breezed through the first 25% before I knew it. The writing was conversational, smooth and enticing. The plot was suspenseful and intriguing. I could sense the undercurrents among the characters, they were very subtle but the writing style is such that the messages come across without having to be explicitly called out. As I was reading, I realized that while I wanted to know what happened to Gen, I also wanted to know more about Thad, as well as Meg and Joe. I couldn’t wait to read more to understand their parents and their relationships with each other. There was a good amount of mystery initially about Thad’s mistress but the sequence of events after the first instance when Meg thinks she’s seen Thad with someone else raised a lot of flags and doubts. When I realized down the line in the book that my initial suspicions were correct, it broke my heart a little. There are number of red herrings in the book that tend to confuse the reader successfully. There are also many small things that niggle at the back of your mind like if Meg was a successful surgeon why wouldn’t she just upgrade her own wedding ring with a bigger diamond. Why ask Gen to give it to her? Why does Meg try and defend Thad with the detective but when Joe says he may have a side she gets upset with him? As I read along I realized that the reality is so different from where we initially started from. It’s dark, twisty, eye opening, and at times hits you like punch to your gut! Gen’s personality traits and the revelations about her in the last 25% of the book made my jaw drop. The epilogue was not very surprising, as an avid reader of this genre that part I had almost assumed but the rest of the book had quite a few surprises in store.
The book is deliciously twisted and a delight to read. Its hard to put down and if you are compelled to put it down, you will be more compelled to pick it back up at the first possible moment. It definitely will make it to my top 10 of the year list.

I really enjoyed reading this book! There were several hidden secrets throughout it and the way in which they were revealed was so well paced.

What starts as the perfect sisters’ getaway turns into a race against the clock as Meg searches for her missing sister, Gen, in the Big Apple. With a looming divorce and too much to drink, anything could have happened to Gen and the finger may be pointing to those closest to her. But all is not what it seems, and while Meg is hopeful that she will find her sister alive, the lies and betrayal that continue to unravel may suggest otherwise.

Overall, I highly recommend this suspenseful thriller. You won’t be able to put it down!

I enjoyed the premise of this book; I love books where, when the secrets start being revealed, they just keep coming and coming.

The problem here is that only one character in the book is likable (one is tenuous; he is ok, but in small doses). None of the villains were interesting enough to be delicious- and I guess I have to admit that I like my villains glaringly evil, not just kind of awful and icky and the kind of person you would never want as a husband or a sister.

Lovers of suspense and a good mystery that isn't super bloody will enjoy this, and the writing is so beautifully done; I just want my villains much more insidious than what I got with this book.

At the start of this story, Gen is a bestselling romance author who is getting a divorce, her husband has cheated on her. She says she is going to sell her condo and move back home, when she shares the news with her sister Meg, Meg sounds like the concerned sister and asking her if she is sure as that means Meg wont be near. Gen is adamant and Meg tells her they will celebrate when they go on their trip to New York for a conference that Meg is supposed to attend, they will celebrate Gen's divorce from the jerk who cheated on her. When the sisters get to New York they have a happy reunion and go out and have a nice steak dinner and drink lots of wine, enough where they are both pretty drunk, they go back to the hotel room where they talk and Gen decides to throw her diamond that her husband had given to her, off of the balcony, sort of a celebration of freedom. After this display Gen suddenly decides she needs to go for a walk, in New York, after Midnight, while drunk. Although the reader is sober and is able to see the 3 things that are wrong with this scenario, neither Gen nor Meg seem to realize the danger of doing this. Meg was not passed out, neither was Gen and yet Meg doesn't insist on stopping Gen from going out into the city after midnight while intoxicated, she just reminds her to take a coat. To me, if you can remind someone to take a coat, maybe you should have convinced her to stay, or maybe go with her? We learn the next morning, big surprise there, Gen does not return, Meg is frantic in looking for her and of course has to wait the customary 24 hours to report her missing with the local police department. She finds her coat that Gen took, a few blocks from the hotel, discarded and filthy, but no sign of Gen anywhere, nobody has seen her. Meg is able to finally report her missing and the search begins. Meg contacts Gen's ex-husband and his attitude is so cold, you think wow, this dude really is an ass. The story then goes back and forth between present and Gen 'before'. You are given a first hand view of how Gen sees everything that is happening to her relationship and marriage, and you discover who her husband has been cheating on her with after she hires a private investigator. Gen discovers there are in fact 2 women and she has the proof she needs to divorce him. However, the reader begins to spiral with Gen and discovers that there is so much more to the truths as they become known, what you thought is really not what it seems. So much betrayal, so many lies and sadness, and the feeling that true remorse does not exist for those that are affected by the relationships between husbands, wives and sisters. A very entertaining read, I kept wanting to read on to find out what the real truth was, very fast paced. Some minor inconsistencies within Chapter 30 where Gen is speaking and the author states it is Meg, because this was received prior to general publishing, I'm certain that the inconsistencies will be fixed prior to the release date of December 15, 2020. I enjoyed this book. It was entertaining and kept me reading. It was not as suspenseful as I had hoped but there were times I thought it was going to go one way and it veered off in another direction. All in all a fun read.

When after drinks, Gen throws her ring away and goes for a walk, Meg doesn't think anything about it. But then her sister disappears. Soon, everyone is a suspect, including Meg, Gen's soon-to-be ex, and the police and a private investigator all have their eyes on everyone. But Meg has a secret and knows who Gen's ex was cheating with - it was her. And meanwhile, Gen is being held captive somewhere...

There is many twists and turns in this thriller, and the reader won't know who to trust. Ultimately, I didn't like how Meg didn't have much remorse for her part, but the ending is satisfying.

Well this was a wild ride with so many twists and turns and you just didn’t know what was going to be revealed next. Gen is divorcing her cheating husband Thad a lawyer and she is with her sister Meg in New York accompanying her for a medical conference and celebrating her imminent divorce once she signs the papers. They got to out dinner that night and get drunk and when they get back to their hotel room Meg asks Gen why she is still wearing her wedding ring. Gen takes it off, walks out to the balcony to throw it off after this she says she needs air grabs Megs coat and goes for a walk. But she never returns and Meg doesn’t realize this until she wakes up the next morning. So Meg goes out to looks for her sister and then tries to report her missing but she has to wait 24 hours before she can file missing person’s report. The first 2 chapters are Gen Pov and then each chapter alternates between Meg, Now and Gen, Now/Gen, before which are flashback exploring Thad and Gen early relationship/marriage and how they drifted apart and how much her mental state was deteriorating through all this without anyone noticing.

It was a really good read and I really enjoyed the flashbacks that gave us the background we needed to see how much Gen was going off the rails and how her husband Thad wasn’t as much of a jerk as she portrayed him to be. We see how much Gen lived in her own fantasy world and that nobody knew how much of what she told them was actually true. I definitely didn’t see the ending coming and oh man it was just really good. This was a fast read and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Okay. I loved it. I loved Gen. I loved the well developed, fair, karma is a bitch kind of conclusion. I loved the intriguing chapters and learning more about psychological evolution of Gen. How she struggled with jealousy, hurt, betrayal. How she dealt with her pain.

And of course I just wanted to spit on the faces of two characters. Meg, sister dearest and Thad- husband assholest are so far best hatable, punchable, detestable, rotten eggs throwable characters I’ve been lately introduced.

Even though some plot holes and the illogical procedures of police investigation parts a little ruined the credibility of the story, the psychological approach to the characters and intriguing pace already earned my thriller fan points.

Quick summary of story-line: Gen, romance novels author is struggling from an ugly divorce. A scumbag cheating husband destroyed everything they had built for years. Now she wants to leave everything behind for a fresh start. But her sister Meg invites her to spend quality time in Big Apple to celebrate her new beginning. She accepts her offer.

They have great time at first. Fancy dinner, too much drinks and you may imagine heavy consumption of alcohol brings out more ugly memories and force a wounded person do something irresponsible or illogical ( been there done that !!!)

As a result, Gen finds herself at the balcony, throwing at her wedding ring. After that she wants to gather her wits by taking a walk. But her walk takes more time than her sister Meg imagined. She never comes back!

What happened to Gen? Is something more sinister and dangerous behind her disappearance? Did someone hurt or kidnap her? Or did she do something to herself?

From the flashbacks and throughout police investigations, we realize her sister is not so sweet, innocent. She can be involved with her disappearance. Did she do anything to her?

My big mouth and nonstop typing hands need to stop here. I can only say: this is my first book of the author. I truly enjoyed her writing style and well- developed characterization skills. So I’m looking forward to read more works of her.

And I’m rounding up 3.5 stars to 4 fast paced, captivating, attention taker, brilliant, well concluded stars!

When I saw that Courtney Evan Tate had a new book coming, I just had to read it as I have read everything to date by this author and I knew I would enjoy it in some capacity. What a rollercoaster ride was The Last to See Her. The book started with our main female lead Gen going through a divorce as her husband the past year has pulled away and had an affair. She just wants to leave the big city and move on. Before she does that, her sister Meg invites her to New York where she is speaking at a conference and thought the pair of them could have a girls' weekend. During the evening, the pair head back to the hotel, and Gen goes for a walk to clear her head. This was the last time Meg saw her as Gen never returns. The rest of the book goes along as Meg searches for her sister and secrets are revealed that could implicate Meg into her sister's disappearance. The novel is written in past/present chapters and I have to admit I found myself hating Meg and Thad - Gen's ex-husband. The pair of them freaking annoyed me and they deserve everything that comes to them in the novel. The Last to See Her has so many different twists and turns that I never saw coming and I have to admit I loved the ending of this story. I was like "Yes" Karma is served.
If you are looking for a new mystery writer to get stuck into, then check out Courtney Evan Tate and read her two earlier books before The Last to See Her is released in December.

This book is full of twists and turns and has a surprising ending. I am not a fan of alternating chapters and flashbacks but did have to finish the story to see how the story ended.

This is a terrific mystery about the twisted lives of sisters. It is written in a very interesting style, as twisted as their lives. The complications unfold with the story as new information bubbles up and expands the plot.

Meaghan and Gen, (loving sisters?), travel to NYC to celebrate Gen’s divorce. The obvious is never obvious in this book and events swirl around the women after Gen leaves their hotel and disappears.
Though there’s lots of unlikely events and emotions in the book, it did engage me. As a New Yorker, the most unlikely was the involvement of the caring NY cop who devoted himself to finding Gen....never could happen.

It’s an enjoyable treat, great for folks who enjoy a less hard-boiled mystery about women.

First off I want to thank the MIRA-HARLEQUIN – Trade Publishing (U.S. & Canada) for the invite to read and review it as well as NetGalley because like always they found me something that I enjoyed reading and couldn't put down if I wanted to. This book has all the twists, turns I could want as well as showing just how far someone will go to get back at someone and that person may never see it coming. In fact I can actually seen something like this happening real life. as fr the story itself its told in the perspectives of both of the sisters so get to hear both of their sides. As for likeing them, I just kind of felt sorry for the both of them even though they themselves was the ones to be blame for what was going in their lives.

Sisters Meg and Gen are in NY. Meg for a work conference and Gen to distance herself from her impending divorce. They have always been extremely close, even though their personalities and chosen professions couldn't be more different. After a great dinner and too many drinks, Gen decides to go for a walk to clear her head. When Meg wakes up in the morning, Gen still hasn't returned, seemingly vanishing into the night.
I seem to have chosen several books lately where sibling dynamics play a major role in the story. As an only child, I love the dysfunction as well as the love, and make no mistake, these two definitely have skeletons in their closets. Most of the story unfolds from Meg's perspective in the present, and Gen's in the past, and well wait, hold on, they both might be unreliable narrators( my favorite).
I loved the twists, turns, and revelations. There are some moments when I was rolling my eyes at some of the things the characters did, but I reminded myself it's fiction, not reality, and moved on. I didn't love how it ended, but I enjoyed the journey of getting there.
