I enjoyed this historical romance story with all of the characters. The two main characters were Bryston McPherson and Branwen Glanville.

Branwen Glanville life is about to change. All her life she want adventure and to see other places. So while see the Abbey in the near town with her ward and his family. A friend comes up and want her to go with him because she is could be endangered.

Bryston McPherson has had a hard time. His wife was killed because a man thought she knew about a secret treasure. He thought the man was dead but recently he heard he still lives. While visiting a sea town with friends he see the man that killed his wife. He must first protect the friend that he with before going after the man.

This was a fun story to read. It has action, adventure, and suspense throughout. It also had a few laughs and giggles throughout.

I received a complimentary copy via Netgalley. This is my honest unbiased opinions.

To Bargain with a Highland Buccaneer follows Branwen Glanville and former privateer Bryston McPherson having to flee Scotland when Bryston spots the killer of his late wife in Leith harbour. La Sauvage believes there is hidden treasure in Tortuga, and after torturing Delphine and leaving a Bryston injured, and later presumed to be dead, he’s back for more and will do anything he can to get the truth from Bryston. Seeing both Bryston and Branwen together at her guardian’s castle, he believes they are a couple, and to ensure their safety, they run for France, hoping to discover the truth, and stop La Sauvage once and for all.

Honestly, I forgot I had even requested this book until I noticed it in my kindle app, and being <200 pages, I decided it would be a quick enough read. Having read the previous one, I had met both characters before, but still found them bland and boring, if I’m totally honest. Bryston obviously cared about his late wife, and though he knew Branwen liked, perhaps even loved him, he toyed with her feelings and even offered marriage when all he wanted was to bed her. Branwen was slightly better, but became too doey eyed for me. I liked the pirate plot line, and the final 10% or so definitely made up for the rest of the book. I’m just glad to get it off my TBR list, and am in no hurry to read any more any time soon.

To Bargain with a Highland Buccaneer by Collette Cameron is a delightful, quick read with adventure. This is my first time reading Cameron and this book works well as a stand alone. Cameron is a beautiful writer and captures these Scottish characters very artfully and truthfully.

We start out in Scotland with Branwen Glanville. Branwen and her sister live in the care of others. They have been spending most of their time in Edinburgh and Branwen is longing for the open seas. Her family has hired a body guard, Bryston McPherson. A long time family friend, Highlander, former privateer and agent to the crown. He is nursing his grief for his wife who was murdered (secret!) and seeks some peace.

That’s just the beginning... from almost the get go of this book Bryston spies the man responsible for his wife’s death and they set off on a journey across Europe for safety and revenge!

I loved these characters, the hope and romance that blooms between them with their fiery spirits. There is a spicy scene where they must hide in a closet in a room of a brothel...but the steam in general is low and kept at kissing.

I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend. Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC. #netgalley #collettecameron #tobargainwithahighlandwarrior

When Branwen Granville, ward of a duke is on an outing with him and his family, she is embroiled in an attack on his friend and buccaneer Bryston McPherson. Bryston has know Branwen for some time, as he is @ friend to the Duke,, and has appreciated the lovely woman she has become, but he is filled with sadness due to the murder of his wife Delphine, on the Caribbean island she was born on.

When her murderer finally resurfaces, having been presumed dead, he is after Bryson and his compatriots to find the treasure Delphine spoke of with her dying breaths. Bryson escapes, but takes Branwen with him to keep her safe, they both know she has been fatally compromised, but that he won’t marry her. Bryston doesn’t believ he can love another, however their close proximity and his undeniable attraction to her, develops into respect, affection and admiration for her poise and quiet fortitude and forbearance.

When they outwit the villain can Bryston open himself up to love and can Branwen believe she can be as dear to him as Delphine was.

So this was a sweet, quick romance with a lot of exposition crammed into a short novel. The central romance was enjoyable, but the pirate plot lacked any real light and shade, and felt a bit rushed.

To Bargain with a Highland Buccaneer is the eighth and final book in the Heart of a Scot series. The book was short, but the plot and characters were still developed. It was fast-paced and great for reading in one series. The characters were charming, and the book was full of mystery, danger, suspense, and romance. Branwen was an unexpected light to Bryston’s darkness. He didn’t think he deserved her, but he stole her heart and now she must convince him they can have a happy ever. Although I am sad to see the end of the series, this was the perfect book to end the series with.

Starting out with book number eight might not have been the best idea for me. I'm assuming that each story is its own HEA, but the dialogue took some getting used to. Maybe I'm not a super huge fan of writing out accents in every single line, so this might be the only Collette Cameron book I pick up.
It's short, so if you're expecting a detailed and characterized love story it's not going to come from this book. I do honestly feel a little disappointed by how little I know of the characters, because I did enjoy them separately and together.

I liked this! If you're not a fan of insta-love then this book might not be for you, but I enjoyed it. I thought the characters were interesting, the setting was fun, I loved the adventure you went on with them! I think my only issue was the dialect was a bit choppy for me at times, because they spoke in Scottish slang a lot, and unlike my normal historical romances from this setting, I read this one on kindle and didn't have an audiobook so reading it was a bit choppy. Overall I thought this had a lot going for it, and I really enjoyed it!

A delicious historical romp set in Scotland. I can't wait to read the others in the series. Melt-your-Kindle hot and a great romantic story. Loved this one!

Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for my ARC. All opinions are my own.

A very well written novella set in Scotland in 1721 with beautiful, creative and descriptive writing throughout. However, I'm not really a fan of too much excess flowery prose, as I think the actual story can get bogged down a bit, which happens to a certain extent here. I zoned out a bit sometimes. Some readers love this style of writing and it's a personal preference that I'm not a fan of it, but I can still appreciate the writing itself, as I know it takes a lot of work.

This story is part of a series with an ongoing back-story, adventure, and recurring characters and as I haven't read any of the previous books, I was swamped with a lot of excess information I didn't need to process in such a short story. I would urge readers to start at the beginning of this series, especially since this novella keeps referring to other events. Because of that, it's a chore to call it a stand alone - apart from the central romance...

I liked Branwen and Bryston - but two similar sounding 'B' names for a H/h was annoying. I enjoyed the historical details though and the descriptions of the docks and the sea were excellent. The chapters set in the bawdy house were entertaining. There was a lot of internal narration and Bryston kept thinking about his murdered wife from five years ago. I gather our couple already know each other slightly, due to past story-lines, but circumstances have thrown them together in this book, thus creating an insta-love/attraction. The dialogue is peppered with ye, yer, aye, dinna, willna, nae, ken, etc, to give the reader the unsubtle hint the characters are in Scotland.

Overall the story was entertaining and I enjoyed the romance, the drama and the adventure. My thanks go to NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for gifting me the eARC in return for my honest opinion. I will read more from this author. 3.5 stars.

What a wonderful trip on the high seas! Sail along with Branwen and Bryston as they try to escape a murderous, treacherous pirate and seek another one. Feel the conflict each one experiences. She from unrequited love, and he from his past life. Travel along with them while they try to find the answers they need to one question. Where is the treasure? Watch out because the scourge of all the pirates wants it, no matter what.
Story is chock full of adventure, suspense, mystery, danger, with a some romance thrown in.

This reviewer got what she bargained for, folks. An engaging, danger laced drama, relationship angst romantic read featuring a heart broken, alpha protective, still mourning his murdered wife hero and a strong willed bonny lass to finally bring him out of that darkness into the light of love.

The writing flowed and kept me fully engaged in this 118 page, stand-alone, short novella. It’s the first book of this series I’ve read, but I enjoyed the writing style so much I definitely would like to backtrack and dive into the others, as well. I’ve listed them below, btw.

Here’s to hoping you’ll feel the same and my verra short review has been helpful in some way.

With this being my first out of the series , it wasn't bad for a stand alone.

At first item as tough for me not knowing other characters and normally a book will explain them a tad for detail from previous books this gave only basic , sister , ward ECT. But it was just enough to get me by .

Branwen fierce, smart and bold. I love her quick whit and fierce attitude. She was a great character for the book. Favorite moment is when she sits on his lap on the brothel and is exposed to new heights ... She falls in love fast but knowing him for so long I think she lived him for a very long time.

Bryston , pirate first , widowed and lost. You want to be sad for him and want him to mourne the loss of his wife, but you also want the connection to be there between him and branwen. Poor guy gets torn with the loss of his wife and moving on that if he loves another is it betrayal to his dead wife. In the end it all ends well and the two of them are just made for each other each in their own way.

Now what lacked for me is more story to the book. It was a fast read for me. But even so it was still was a great read and I will now go back and read the whole series and I am glad I got to read this book and find a new author to like.

I am however more of a sexual content person and even though this had a good amount of sexual content it just wasn't enough for my liking . This book was cleaner for me. It may not be cleaner to some however it does have choice words and actions. But too take for me . But overall it was a love story and I do love a good happy ending.

Also may I add the drama wasn't horrible there's books out there that end up with too much drama and this was not one of them . It was the perfect amount of drama and excitement and love!!

Branwen has always craved excitement, but she got more than she bargained for during a walk with Bryston. She is mistaken for his love interest by one of his enemies and he must take her aboard his ship to protect her.

Having Branwen on his ship, just intensifies his attraction for her. Still fighting the guilt from his wife's murder, Bryston feels like he doesn't deserve the closeness that he is starting to feel with Branwen.

Can these two outwit Bryston's enemy and find their happily ever after?

I really enjoyed Branwen and Bryston's story. We a little of these two in the previous story, so I was excited to read how the two of them got together. Cameron did not disappoint! I just loved the interaction between these two and much of it had me laughing out loud. This was a great addition to the Heart of a Scot series!

An exciting book to read. It has excitement from the beginning until the end.. The story is good, the characters are interesting and strong. I recommend that you read this book as it kept me wanting to know if they would be caught or would they catch the villain. I was not disappointed.

Overall, I enjoyed this book but found the premise a little thin. I never really bought that Bryston had to bring Branwen to the continent just because they had been seen together by the villain. It seems like they could have just as easily hidden her away somewhere in England just made it seem as though she had gone with him. Having the main characters have such similar names also sometimes slowed down my reading because I had to take a second to remember who was who. The villain was also a little over the top - it was hard to imagine why anyone stayed loyal to him as he was so obviously unstable and getting crazier every day. Despite all of that, I did enjoy the love story between Branwen and Bryston. I appreciated that Branwen acknowledged that she was jealous of Bryston's dead wife while knowing how unfair that was to him. She doesn't push him, but lets him know that when he's ready she will be there for him. This is the only book in the series that I have read, so it is possible there was more backstory between these two characters in a previous book - I would have liked to have seen more of them before the events of this novel.

Bryston McPherson is heartbroken over the death of his wife and not looking for love. Branwen Glanville wants excitement and the chance to travel. When the pirate who murdered Bryston's wife find them, Bryston must protect Branwen.
Collette has taken us to the highlands and to the sea with this last book in the series. Branwen definitely gets her chance for excitement and the opportunity to travel. You don't want to miss this exciting story!

At the end of a day of touring ruins of an old abbey, Branwen Glanville looked forward to a tour of the port with her family and Bryston McPherson. Branwen had always wished for adventure, but being grabbed by Bryston and running for their lives from a crazed pirated wasn’t exactly what she had in mind. This villain not only believes Bryston knows of a great treasure, but murdered his wife trying to get information. He chases them from Scotland to France where he and Bryston confront each other. Will this finally put the ghosts of his past to rest?

The Heart of a Scot ends with a dangerous and exciting adventure. Bryston and Branwen are joined by an interesting and entertaining cast of characters, some good, some wicked, some familiar and some new. This one ends with some very nice surprises that bring the series to a lovely conclusion.

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.

Branwen Glanville a ward to the Duke of Roxdale craves excitement and when Bryston McPherson comes to meet them her guardian and her the grad adventure begins. Bryston is being hunted down and all their lives are in danger, especially Branwen’s when his enemy mistakenly think she’s his lady love. They’ve know each other for years, seen each other at holiday’s, but Bryston knew Branwen was off limits to the like of him. They’re thrown together on the high seas looking for the pirate who killed his wife and trying to save Branwen from the pirate monster La Savage. I loved this captivating story with adventure on the high seas as Bryston and Branwen grow closer and knowing there is no future for them make for a bittersweet romance story. I voluntarily read and wrote this review.

A braw Scot, a visual feast to be appreciated. "Tall, his pale blond hair braided and pulled back at the sides, scarred and tattooed, his Viking heritage on display for all to see, the Highland warrior fairly exuded power, strength and intimidation." Oh yes Bryston McPherson was sigh worthy, agent for the crown and a buccaneer. Yes, it keeps getting better!
Yes, Branwen had to turn away so he would not catch her "oglin' the mon, plain and simple." How could anybody resist! But Bryston was being followed and he and Branwen had to make a run for his ship!
Adventure, villains, a sigh worthy Scot and a feisty heroine bring this story full circle on a journey not soon forgotten! Collette does it again with her delightful stories and wraps up this amazing series in fine bow. Do not miss this or anything this author writes!
