Litercurious Partial Review for Canada

CONCLUSION

The exterior visage of Myers illustrated book of Canada was simply breath-taking. It engenders a very real sense of anticipation and a genuine frisson of excitement as the prospective reader.

I found my initial expectations were not entirely met. My initial visceral anticipation that was engendered by the cover quickly became jaded. I expected there would be an abundance of wildlife images, but I was disappointed. Almost 80% of the images were of cities, architecture, bridges, and in one case an image of an apartment buildings post boxes. Whilst I was disappointed, I still adored the wildlife and nature photography.

I found the nature images together with the written narrative satisfying. I still enjoyed the overall viewing and reading experience. Amber Books are renowned for publications of this kind. They always produce memorable picture books and despite some small distractions, Canada is still a very memorable work. CONCLUSION

Lovely photographs fill this book on Canada. There is some text, but the focus is on the photos, showing Canada's beautiful landscapes, cities, towns, and villages, cultural attractions, and more. Perfect for "traveling" from the comfort of your own home!

I really enjoyed armchair traveling with this beautiful book. There is some text accompanying the photographs. The book is organized by area and highlights the flavor of each Province. Enjoy the tour

I love Canada and currently live here at the moment so have experience with a lot of places in the book personally or through travel research.
This book is divided into sections by geographic regions as opposed to provinces which means many of the bigger provinces get less photos. Their is a large focus on some of the cities rather than the natural attractions but even then the icons of some cities aren't even included.
It has many nice pictures but also many pictures that I question why that exact picture was chosen considering its quality or as a poor example of the place (for eg. Snowshoeing at Joffree Lakes when a summer picture of the beautiful water would be better. Or the fact that the Peak2Peak gondola was mentioned at the start of the BC chapter but then the Whistler picture was just a standard cloudy chairlift picture). It is good for an inspirational coffee table book but I found a number of errors in the text so I wouldnt use it as a pure reference book. I just really get the feeling the author hasn't visited many of the places in the book as so many places were misleading labelled or much better options could've been chosen.
Overall its probably better as a tourist souvenir book then anything else.

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

This book is mainly a visual photography book with some stunning pictures of Canada, many I'd never heard of and could only dream of seeing.

There are some descriptions to accompany the photos and each area (the book is divided into four areas - North, South, East and West) has a few pages written about the history of that particular area.

I really enjoyed reading the information printed and some of the photos took my breath away.

I really enjoyed this coast to coast book in pictures. It gave a nice overall vision of each area of Canada. The bits of history and information along with some of the pictures was a nice surprise. The pictures looked a bit dark and grainy but I think that had more to do with the digital version.

I’m really mixed about this book. I loved looking at the photographs (especially of the places I have visited) and reading bits about them. I’m not sure if it was because it was an ebook, but some of the photographs weren’t that clear. I’m not sure I’d recommend anyone to buy it, but it’s a great library book.

Having grown up in Western Canada I am always eager to read about one of my favorite places on earth. I enjoyed the historical references that are dotted throughout. I was perplexed by the design and flow. While the book is divided into regions, it bounces all over each with seemingly no rhyme or reason. It is unclear if this book is target to travelers, tourists, or scenic art lovers. It it is the former, a more definitive arc of travel would be welcome. If the latter, I would suggest that readers peruse a hard copy as the digital version had dark, poorly lit pictures. The text often did not correspond to the pictures so that could be oft putting as well. A hyper-focus on eastern cities lends an uneven quality when less populated areas don't get as much space, and based on the number of pages, the author loves Montreal. The simplicity of the text makes for an easy read and is suitable for children, however, a tighter edit and better quality graphics would give this book an edge.

It Took me a while to get the book downloaded. I finally did but I didn’t understand there was nothing inside other than a photo of different book covers.

I apologize that I wasn’t able to figure out how to see the photos and read the book Canada by Norah Myers.

My daughter moved to Canada two years ago when she got married to a Canadian.
I miss not being able to see her given our pandemic days.

Canada is such a beautiful country and I treasured the visits I’ve had.

Thank you for the opportunity of sending me this book.
I’m sorry if it was my fault for not being able to open it correctly.
I certainly tried a few times.

Wishing joy and success to the author with her book being seen by others.

Oh, Canada! This is a wonderful visual journey through every province and territory of Canada. The collection of photographs is meticulous as are the captions. Lots of interesting facts about wildlife, food, culture, history, architecture spread throughout Canada's wild and civilized landscapes. Whether you are Canadian, have traveled through its lands or have only dreamed of visiting, this is a wonderful escape to the Great White North from the comfort of your living room.

I liked this book. I liked the photos and everything.
It would be great to have this one in hardcover i think.

Having recently visited a few of the cities in this wonderful book, it brought joy to my eyes to see them again from someone else's perspective. This captured my wonderlust to visit more of Canada in the future. The photographs were crisp with just enough text to give you the information most desired. If I could add anything, it might be a quick location index, as many people enjoy seeing the views with their own eyes when they visit an area, as I am seeing more titles with GPS coordinates included. The price point is great, as it will not be a barrier to owning this title. I wish this would have shared a little more about the size of the book and the options for paperback and hardcover. After looking it up on a bookseller site, I realized this is a smaller hand title. 6.60(w) x 4.80(h) x 0.80(d) It will be a great tourist purchase to remember their trip, but it might not be the best for library use as it is smaller and might get lost on the shelves. Seeing it's smaller size might make it a nice lightweight title for use with older customers, but then the smaller font isn't helpful for them. Personally, I plan on buying this title for home use. Thanks for the work that went into this wonder gem!

Another entry into this classy publisher's series of classy books about specific countries – I did like the Thailand one, for its quality and scope, and this really does act as a calling card for Canada. Whether you want to gaze at the wilderness of the Atlantic regions, or place yourself in the larger cities, and whether you seek just some basic learning about the country or a souvenir, this could well be the book for you. You really shouldn't think of buying it in paperback form, however, before first knowing the size of the thing. This is a small book, where the pages equate to a 6" by 4" photograph – and by adding on the many informative and concise captions you get a lot of very small – lovely and charming, but very small – images for your money. Digitally it all seems perfectly reproduced, so bear that in mind, but this is no coffee table thing to dream over.

A truly lovely visual journey across the vast landscape of Canada. This country will always hold a very special place in my heart as it is where I went on my honeymoon, and looking through these images with the comprehensive and interesting written sections was both nostalgic and inspiring. I thoroughly enjoyed spending time marveling at the beautiful photographs and learning more about a place I already love very much.

Gorgeous artwork, this book is one that is essential for any coffee table book lover. I live not far from Montreal, and the photos from there alone are wonderful, but it was just a wonderful way to get my travel bug sated when the border is closed to me.

As a Canadian, born in Nova Scotia, living in Toronto for more than 30 years and doing a fair bit of travelling for my job, I thought it would be fun to read about Canada, especially with Canada Day being less than a week away.

This book is not only a collection of full-colour pictures but also interesting facts to go along with the pictures.

The book is split into five sections:

1. The Atlantic Region - New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland
2. Central Canada - Ontario and Quebec
3. The Prairie Provinces - Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba
4. British Columbia
5. The North - Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Yukon.

Here are a couple things I found odd with this book. While the author states that Ontario and Quebec are Canada's two largest and most populated provinces, she lumps them together into one section. Being the largest provinces, I would have thought that they would have warranted their own sections, especially given how different Quebec is in many respects from the rest of Canada. Yet, British Columbia got its own section?!

Another thing I found odd was some of the choices of pictures. There is a picture of a bull moose in the Atlantic Region section, for example, but no specific location provided in the picture's description, just that they are found in most of Canada. Is this an Atlantic bull moose? So a general picture of a bull moose was included but where were the pictures of Peggy's Cove or the Cabot Trail?

Thank you to NetGalley and Amber Books for a copy of this ebook in exchange for an honest review.

This is a lovely book on Canada that captures the well know spots ( think Niagara Falls.. Banff National Park etc) and some of the less well known but gorgeous places (think Churchill). It also provides some info and photos on the various wildlife you can find in Canada .From puffins .. to whales.. to polar bears ..caribou ...

I have been doing a lot more traveling in Canada in recent years, and his book has given a few additional ideas.
