This was one of my favorite books for a while, and although I did not get to write a review before it was archived, I did deeply enjoy this story and was a good way to get introduced to science fiction and modern works in this genre

Great sci-fi introduction to a new world with relatable characters. It’s an action packed adventure that would be a one night page turner if not for the 800 pages!

Aliens, humans, ship minds, interstellar war!! This action packed sci-fi was great! I loved Gregorovitch! I felt a lot of sadness for Kira as she continuously has to sacrifice herself and her happiness for the greater good. I hope we get another book as Kira goes to destroy the other maws. Also really loved the term jellies for aliens!

This was a very expansive sci-fi and it is impressive what Paolini is able to do with the novel. His writing style is descriptive and while that might be to other's taste, it caused my interest to wane constantly throughout the novel.

This was such an enjoyable read! It's a bit of rollicking space opera and the fate of humanity is at stake.

I loved our main character and simply adored some of the 'misfits' she ends up with.

While the book did slow down at times for me, each time I thought I wouldn't finish, the author ramped up the action and I just kept going.

Glad I read this one!

I chose this book because my son and I had read and liked Eragon... this was not that but it was not the hardest thing I have ever had to read either. I should not have expected children's fantasy from an adult sci-fi book.

I am not a science fiction reader but this book made me want to be one. I am surprised it hasn't been made into a movie yet. The special effects to show Kira's powers would have to be amazing. After reading the first chapter, I thought of revoking my recommendations to students (who had read the Eragon books) to read it, but the story switched from a space romance to a thrilling space ride. It made everything about space travel seem so believable.

I am not a science fiction reader, but this was recommended to me to try. Unfortunately, I ended up DNFing because it just wasn't for me. Not saying it wasn't good, just not my kind of read.

*Thank you Tor Books/Macmillan for the copy in exchange for an honest review. Review not posted to Amazon/Goodreads because less than 4 stars or DNF.*

“During a routine survey mission on an uncolonized planet, Kira finds an alien relic. At first she's delighted, but elation turns to terror when the ancient dust around her begins to move.

As war erupts among the stars, Kira is launched into a galaxy-spanning odyssey of discovery and transformation. First contact isn't at all what she imagined, and events push her to the very limits of what it means to be human.”

I was excited to read this book by Christopher Paolini of Eragon fame! The plot was interesting, I liked the pace of the novel. Even though it was long it was a great read with interesting characters and enough action to keep the pace moving. Overall I think Paolini’s talent continues to grow and I’m excited for the sequel!

I am sceptical when authors switch genres, but Paolini writes a wonderful story with a full plot and enjoyable characters. Admittedly, it feels as much an adventure story as it is a sci-fi, but it is an engaging tale, well told, and readers should feel confident picking up any of his works.

The breadth of this novel was mind-blowing. This was no fluff piece. I found myself entirely invested in the main characters and their challenges and adventures. I will be following this authors future works.

This is a very, very sci-fi book, no doubt about it. And still there are some really beautiful, thoughtful passages. Does it need to be as long as it is? Probably not. And some of it does feel like Paolini is showing off a little, trying to be philosophical. But overall, a very solid offering.

It was just too long to keep me involved. While I have enjoyed Paolini’s book series, this one just isn’t in my interest area.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me a free advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

I really struggled with this one. Overall, I loved the concept and was excited about the story as I started reading it. However, I kept putting it down to read other books and eventually just gave up on it. I can't put my finger on the disconnect. I am sure others will love this, but it just wasn't for me.

I originally got this book as an eARC on NetGalley. I tried to physically read it a couple of times and couldn’t get into it because the beginning is SO SLOW. I eventually tried again via audio and finally made it through! I’m going to thank the narration for that. It’s 10/10 the only reason I didn’t give up completely and DNF this book.

I had quite a few complaints about this book, but my biggest was the pacing. It was horrendously slow and painfully long and drawn out in the first half. The ridiculous length of this book is unnecessary and I feel like a couple hundred pages could have been whacked and it wouldn’t have changed anything at all. There’s almost no plot in the book. Things only get interesting when Kira makes contact with an alien relic and scores a wicked badass alien supersuit. Honestly, that is the only reason this book gets as many stars from me as it does. That concept is where 99% of my enjoyment came from, because it certainly wasn’t the uninteresting, flat characters. Or the nonexistent plot. Or the dull, awkward writing.

This one did not hook me quickly enough, so I did not feel like it would catch my student's attention either.

To sleep in a Sea of Stars is a Sci-Fi Adult novel by the bestselling author of Eragon. Space Voyager Kira travels to distant worlds to find what they have in store, but while on a mission she uncovers an ancient relic that will changes what she knows. This story is a well-built science fiction, but as an 800+ page adult book, it is not for the faint of heart and takes dedication to read.

I kick myself for waiting so long to read this. Such a great read. Now that it'd read, I feel like I have to read it again because I know there's more to discover.

Even though this book is massive, it is a beautiful and fun and wild story. With all the vibes of the original Alien movies series, and some Venom, this space opera was just what I needed. I've been a fan of Christopher Paolini for about 12 years now and he still doesn't disappoint.
