This book is heart-rending. As a rape survivor myself, it was a hard read an triggering, however I believe this is a book that needs to be read and these women's stories need to be told. I'm glad someone is telling their stories. This book tells us about a rarely talked about side of war.

I would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy free of charge. This is my honest and unbiased opinion of it.

What words can I put together that can do this justice? Especially now, in this time. Proceed with caution but it's a must read.

I do not even know what to say about this book. It is such an eye-opener to the many injustices experienced across the world. The doctor who has assisted more rape victims than any other doctor is a hero. The author is a reporter and has spent time in these areas, so it was a well-researched book. I am just in shock at what goes on and how no one has been able to stop it.

This book is so important for our world. It was definitely one of the hardest books I have ever read, but the truth hurts sometimes. No one ever talks about the pain and suffering of the innocent victims in wars. For centuries women and children have been used as political pawns. Women and young girls tortured and raped at the hands of vicious evil. Children ripped from their mothers arms and beaten, tortured and killed. Christina Lamb tells us what no one wants to hear. Television glamorizes war, this book gives us the raw truths.
One of my favorite parts, if I can say I had one, was how one group of these women rallied together to make a special dinner for Lamb on her visit. They appreciated her for treating them as normal people. She didnt outcast them as many of their families had done. Being an American I cannot fathom treating my child this way.
This book needs to be read across the world. It is an important book for all sexes and cultures to read and understand.

I want to thank NetGalley, the publisher, and author Christina Lamb for providing me with an ARC of this novel.

I feel like we have all at one point in our lives wondered about the side of war that isn’t reported in the media/brought to light in the public. This novel was one that pulled on my heartstrings. This was empowering and inspiring, and I feel lucky to have read it. Women have made immense progress, but there’s still such a long way to go. This novel is the siren’s call for necessary change.

I picked this up because the author co-wrote a book with Malala. I am so grateful that I did because I learned so much about a side of war rarely reported in the media. Gripping, heart aching tales about women from all over the world.
