When Women Pray is an insightful book focused on the widely discussed women in the Bible. It reveals the outcome of their faithfulness to God. I enjoyed that the author, Bishop T.D. Jakes, gave historical context with each woman to establish a greater understanding of their background. There are some parts of the book took longer for me to finish. However, Bishop Jakes’ application to current times, coupled with the women he discussed, served as a reminder of the necessary truth. Prayer is vital, prayer is a source, and prayer works.

I was a little leery when I first received a copy of this book. The church, especially some of those in the black church tend to vilify women. When things don't go right, its usually the woman's fault for not praying hard enough. Thankfully, that was not presented in this book. Using examples of the Bible, Bishop Jakes gives women the call to continue on in our path.

T.D. Jakes has a unique gift of storytelling and making the scriptures I’ve read countless times come to life. In this book, he revisits many women of the Bible and the role they played in the culture of their time while focusing on how they prayed. Using each woman’s personal story as a backdrop to encourage women everywhere to pray honest prayers, Jakes puts forward an amazing work of art that will stir and provoke the reader to prayer. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to the women in my life as a reminder of how important it is for us to go deeper in our prayer lives.
