This is one of those books which a College Professor would call “Reading.” This novel is definitely not a disposal dime-store romance that you read on the beach in one sitting. This novel is thoughtful, mysterious, and should be savored.; read slowly with a cup of tea and a blanket. It is about the life of finance. The 1% vs the rest of us. There is a mystery. Devlin is out one early morning on the lake in Central Park on his boat. He finds himself racing against a teenager jogging on the edge of the lake and then runs his boat into a floating body. He calls the police and finds there is a mystery where the financial district at Wall St. is involved. He and his lover to stay alive as they try to unravel the mystery. This novel is well-written and slow-paced. It is introspective. You enter the mind of the protagonist; Devlin. He is philosophical and insightful as he tries to figure out the mystery of the dead body.

The writing is beautiful and crafted with a detail and voice that feels timeless. While I appreciate how it shaped a noir mood and a strong sense of atmosphere, it did make it hard for me to get into the story. The pacing was a bit off for me, unfortunately, which in turn made me struggle to focus. While this book wasn't for me, again, I loved the writing and would definitely try something else by this author.

I enjoyed this complex mystery featuring the world of high finance in Manhattan. The atmospheric setting of winter on the East Coast was very fun to experience through the authors descriptions. The characters were well crafted to the story. Visiting the world of high finance featured here as its own character is exciting to read. The sleuth was interesting and brilliantly paced to keep every reader turning pages. I highly recommend this book for all readers that enjoy a complex sleuth. Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley.

A rollercoaster of a ride for me with this one. Initially drawn to the book by its cover I was so pleased to find I got into the book really quickly and read it over the space of a couple of days. The world of high finance is alien to me so I felt a bit out of my depth but I held firm and went along for the ride.
3 stars for me - thrilling and escapist and would have been 4 if I was more familiar with the setting.
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the ARC in return for an honest review

This is one of those books that I am not sure about, but it kept my interest long enough to finish. I believe my feelings stemmed from the fact that this was an ARC and needed some seriously tweaking. It was very wordy, although the writing was beautiful, and there were multiple reusing of phrases. It also needed to flow more smoothly and some segments explained more thoroughly. There is even a hint of the supernatural in the story line.

I will leave it to you readers to decide for yourself, but I feel with some deep editing this will be a good read.

An atmospheric mystery set in a snowy New York. A dead boy found leads Devlin on a hunt for murderers shrouded in enigma. Highly recommend.

This author may have had a great idea, but his love of adjectives and sweeping remarks and comments makes reading this exhausting. It would be great to simply follow the action without in depth descriptions and musings on the human condition.

I won't give up yet, but it is rough going to get through the text.

With a stabbing intensity and glowering atmosphere this is a crime novel with huge attitude. An atmospheric tale built on strong characterization.

The world of the Fine Arts is one that is one that felt comfortable but the world of high finance is as foreign to me as working a busy shift in a city ER is to those who are involved in the kind of finance in this book. People I can fathom, stratospheric finance not at all. The characters are all interesting and engaging, tracking the mystery of the murder and disappearance is convoluted and twisty. I felt kind of outclassed and not deeply engaged. It would be much more enjoyable to an MBA.
I requested and received a free ebook copy from Novabook Publishing via NetGalley.
