Unfortunately, getting out of this unwanted job proves much harder than getting into it, especially when it involves some very shady, powerful people.

I won’t dive into the remaining plot details, because it’s better to discover all the twists and turns for yourself, but I will say that I was impressed with how author Elle Cosimano tied up the threads of this seemingly impossible scenario Finlay finds herself in.

This book was a blast! With my schedule, there’s no such thing as a one day read, but if I could’ve, I would’ve. The plot is tight and fast-paced, with well-developed, interesting characters and loads of humor. Finlay’s kids’ nanny, Vero, is smart, spunky and delightful, and even when she creates problems of her own, she’d still be my go-to girl if I needed help. Julian, the bartender, and Nick, the cop? I’d take either one in a heartbeat if I was single, though I was leaning in a different direction than the story went. You win some, you lose some. I wasn’t too disappointed. The ending is clearly setting up for a sequel, so who knows where all these characters may end up when the merry-go-round stops spinning. All I know is … I want to be on the next ride!

I've read a couple of Cosimano's YA titles before, but it's been a few years since I've sunk my teeth into one of her books. This title is definitely an adult mystery with definite aspects of comedy. I'm rather glad I saved this one for the end of the year because its quiet & this book was *impossible to put down*. Finlay Donovan is a struggling fiction writer & single mom of 2 young kids. Her husband Steven had an affair with a real estate agent and left her for Theresa Hall, a blonde bombshell biotch who hates kids. Finlay is late on her bills, late on her book deadline and has writer's block because she can't write romance after her husband left her & she had no clue of the affair until her nosy neighbor outed them. On a chance meeting with her agent at a Panera, she somehow gets an unconventional job offer in her lap. From there on out, starts the "fun". Have you ever fantasized about revenge killing husbands who are dirt bags? Or at least some nefarious activities while making your rival look guilty as sin? I really didn't know how things would turn out & the suspense was delightful. Only thing is that this could ONLY be fiction although some things ARE too strange to be made up. I believe and hope there will be a follow up book because there was an intriguing loose end. Oh and sadly I don't think Panera has cheesecake but they really ought to add it to their dessert menu.

This is a stand-out, fresh, modern mystery destined for the big screen. Seriously, if this isn't a movie in a few years, I would be shocked (and will riot). It's a challenge to craft a mystery that isn't predictable, feels new, and has some hilarious moments and this manages to do all three. In the first chapter, I was a little worried, because a single, mid-twenties professional, I couldn't relate to Finlay's harried divorced mom of two #strugglebus life. But I quickly fell in love with Finlay's character, and I can't imagine anyone who wouldn't. She's plucky, fun, creative, and way more competent than she gives herself credit for. The story makes you question your own morals as you maybe actually root for Finlay to carry out the hit, and sets up a series in such a stunner of a way you may want to pull your hair out at the epilogue. Thankfully, most loose ends are tied up nicely, but there's also plenty of plot left for additional books--whether it's mysteries (here for it!) or whether Finlay ends up with a hotshot law student or hotshot cop (here for either of them!). A lot of mystery series suffer from the dreaded love triangle paradox (how else do you keep the story alive for 10+ books?) but it's hardly noticeable in this book, since the romance is so tangential to the plot--this story is truly about FINLAY, and no one else. But I also love the supporting cast of characters, including the love interest, Vero--the nanny/accountant, Finlay's ex, and everyone else! I can't wait to read the next book and the first book isn't even out yet.

I’m giving this 5 ⭐️ because of the writing, the story-line, and characters. It was a fast paced and easy read.

What a suspenseful, funny, fresh, well-written murder mystery!

I was left at the edge of my seat for the entirety of this book. It was a unique story with a great cast of characters.

I loved the relationship between Finlay and Vero, like a Thelma and Louise of murder, mystery, and mayhem. I did not want to put this book down. I wanted to savor every second and yet read as fast as possible to find out how it was going to end.

The ending was genius! I didn’t see half of the twists coming in the story, and I am so excited to hear more from this author! This is going to be a massive hit in 2021!

This book was a solidly fun, mistaken identity gone wrong read! I was looking forward to relaxing with this book every night so I could read a little more about what a hole Findlay was digging herself into and how she would get out of it. Findlay is completely over the top - sometimes a little too many implausible things happened - but overall, a light fun read that will hold your attention until the very end.

Finlay Donovan has a career as a crime writer, though she doesn’t consider herself very successful. Her advances never pay much more than a few household bills and now that she’s a single mom, she’s struggling.
Her ex-husband Steven is now engaged to the realtor he was cheating on her with and wants custody of their two young children.
Smug about the fact Finlay not earning much money and he has to help her financially, the final nail in the coffin is when he fires their nanny, Vero.

Finlay is at a crossroads when she speaks with her agent, Sylvia, at the local Panera. She’s already spent her meager book advance and owes them a draft of a book she hasn’t had the time to write. All of her bills are overdue. She can’t possibly afford a lawyer to battle her ex for custody.
When a woman at the restaurant overhears Finlay’s discussion, she gets the wrong idea about Finlay’s profession. Before Finlay knows what’s happening, she’s been hired to get rid of a woman’s husband for $50,000.
This strange turn of events at least gives her an idea for her next book and she has her police officer sister to help her with the hypothetical details.
Unfortunately, the man she was hired to bump off ends up dead anyway and now Finlay has to untangle herself from the crime before she becomes a suspect.

From there, an unlikely but highly entertaining adventure begins with Finlay and her nanny/accomplice Vero! I adore every single thing about this book. It’s just a fun fast-paced ride with charmingly flawed characters who feel genuine, the right amount of comedy, and an ending that definitely left me wanting more. I am thrilled this is just the beginning of a new mystery series!

This book is a fun ride if you're willing to suspend disbelief--pretty much nothing that happens to the characters is believeable--but when I read a humorous mystery, I'm okay with madcap, so that was fine by me. The characters are likeable and pleasant to spend time with. But, if implausibilty is an issue for you, though, this probably isn't your best choice.

This book hooked me from its opening line:

"It's a widely known fact that most moms are ready to kill someone by eight thirty A.M. on any given morning."

Can't argue with that, right? 😆

This mystery features a compelling whodunit plot, dark humor, and a intriguing heroines. I sped through it in 2 days, eager to see how everything resolved. The story was vaguely reminiscent of the Stephanie Plum mysteries, and I felt that the ending was left open for a similar series, especially because this book featured the start of a love triangle. I'd love to read more about Finlay's adventures!

I didn't expect a lot from this one. It sounded like a book you read for the sheer fun of it, and I expected a quick and entertaining romp - in other words, brain candy, which is exactly what I need these days. What I found instead was a little more zany and cliched, and a lot less engaging and fun than I hoped for... It's not my normal kind of book. I'm about 15 years past the point where I found Bridget Jones' Diary entertaining, but I thought this one held the promise of revisiting some of that feeling of silly madcap glee Maybe I'm too old for that too lol, but this one just didn't resonate with me. I found her haplessness irritating rather than amusing, and I just couldn't fall into the story as a result. I think I'm just the wrong audience for this one...

Omg, this was adorable! Just the right amount of humor and a hysterical case of "mistaken Idenity"

Finlay is not having the best time of her life. Between her divorce, her financial situation, its down right awful. She does though have a brilliant idea for a new book and pitches it to her agent at Panera . Only problem is, someone overhears and doesn't realize that Finlay is talking about the plot of her new book. Instead they think that FInlay is talking about her latest hit job. And we are off running on what is a hysterical journey.

This was such a great book to read after reading some super heavy stuff. It had just the right amount of suspense, but lots of humor also. . I can't wait for everyone to read this!

Finlay is definitely down on her luck, not only has her husband left her, but he is now threatening to petition for sole custody of their children, there’s a stack of unpaid bills on the porch and she’s suffering from writers block. When she meets her agent at Panera she is mistaken for a hitwomen when the lady at the next table overhears her talking about the plot for her new book. When she discovers a note in her diaper bag offering a large sum of money to kill the woman’s husband she is not interested in the least, but she is curious. Her curiosity quickly gets her into a whole of trouble. When she joins forces with her nanny, Vero, things really start to get interesting. The bills have been paid and Finlay now has the premise for a best seller, but will she be able to keep one step ahead of her adversaries and the police, or will she end up in handcuffs and an orange jumpsuit? Elle Cosimano has written quite the caper. A witty, funny and clever read from start to finish. Looking forward to more escapades from Vero and Finlay in the future and my hope is that it’s in the very near future!

Finlay is a young mom trying to cope with single parenthood, a rotten ex-husband and a book she needs to write in order to pay her mounting bills. When she unexpectedly gets an opportunity to make some serious cash for performing a professional hit, she never intends to go through with it. But when the target ends up dead in her suburban garage, she gets the credit (and the cash), and her new "career" starts to take off in ways she never imagined.
I really enjoyed the characters in this novel. The author's portrayal of motherhood in particular is both heart wrenching and hilarious at times, as is the pairing of Finlay with her nanny sidekick, Vero.. The two have some madcap adventures that include getting rid of a body and a stakeout with no opportunity to pee. Both of these are the ultimate measure of a good friend, in my opinion. Along the way, there are a variety of love interests, some who look like underwear models. Go Finlay.
Unfortunately, the mystery was a bit too light and simplistic for me. It read more like a Nancy Drew novel than a modern who-dun-it. The deductions that lead to the crime's solution were rather far-fetched, and this made the ending less satisfying. Still, if you like a rom-com mixed with some light mystery, this one might be right up your alley.

There are so many things I want to say about HOW MUCH I FREAKING LOVED THIS BOOK. What a perfect, fast-paced, hilarious and overall fun read. If this isn't on your radar, you need to put it on NOW. It will likely be a top read of 2020 for me (even this close to the end of the year) and I want more people to have the amazing experience I did reading this novel!

My thoughts:

-I need to be best friends with Finlay and Vero. This is one of the most quirky and unique duo's I've read in a long time and while some may think they are mismatched, I thought it was absolutely brilliant. While this book is narrated by Finlay, each character had moments to shine and it was so fun watching their stories unfold. A mom and nanny turned "hit women" is

-This is a genre-blending book and I was originally apprehensive that I wouldn't like a comical murder mystery, but I WAS SO WRONG. This book made me laugh out loud, but there were definitely some sinister moments and the bad guys were creepy. This one also had a dash of romance and while I am kinda bummed she didn't choose the original love interest, but the ending was absolutely perfect and makes total sense for this book.

-You'll easily read this one in a day or two. The storyline keeps building and everything seems to hit the fan at the same time, so you'll be really invested in what happens during each chapter of this book. I love a good book that I cannot put down - and this is certainly one of them!

Absolutely loved this book! It was such a fun read and filled with suspense. I loved the plot so much! Finlay Donovan is an author struggling to turn in her novel which is already super late. She is divorced with two kids and is dealing with a custody battle with her ex-husband and his new fiance. Finlay is meeting her agent at lunch to discuss the plot of her next book. A woman at a neighboring table misunderstands their conversation and assumes Finlay is a killer for hire! The story really kicks off from there and Finlay's actual life is a little too close to her fictional story. I would definitely recommend this fun, witty, suspenseful book. I can’t stress how much of a fun time I had devouring this book. Finley Donovan was such a lovable mess and I was rooting for her every step of the way. She kept getting deeper and deeper into the problems she’d created herself, but instead of being annoyed, I was just amused. The end of the book made me actually gasp and I can’t wait for the follow-up!

I feel like I consistently wanted both more and less from this book. I wanted to be able to connect more with Finlay, but needed less from the plot, which constantly went in 5 different directions that were hard to keep track of. I also wanted to get more from Vero, who felt really underdeveloped. While I had my problems with this book, it was fun and a quick read after the first 40 pages or so. It took a little bit for me to start to get into the story. I found the setup really interesting, but don't think it lived up to its potential. I'm not sure if I'll be picking up book 2, but I can see this being an appealing beach read.

Finlay Donovan is a single mother and author who finds herself in trouble over and over. With her nanny Vero by her side, Finlay solves a murder, gets her life in order and finds success with a promising new book. Finlay reminds me a lot of Stephanie Plum from the Janet Evanovich series, but less silly. This mystery was fun and the ending left me wanting more.

One fateful morning meeting her publicist at her local Panera, it happens. She is mistaken for a hired assassin.

Her chaotic life unravels over the course of the few weeks with mishaps, misunderstandings, and criminal behavior. She inadvertently amasses a reputation in the murder for hire for business. The one saving-grace in Finlay's world is her nanny, Vero, who becomes a willing partner in the bedlam.

This book is killing it literally. I can't wait to continue on in the series, especially after the closing lines. WHAT?!?!? A murder, laughter, romance and hilarity who doesn't need that right now in their life, so pick up this book.
